I bust my ass for 2 weeks going from novice artisan starting out in the game to novice droid engineer.

What an incredibly boring expeerience.

This game has no depth; sorry thats how I feel. All you do is either:

1. take a package from a to b (slow and tedious), get paid a tiny amount.
2. shoot some monstes/baddies.
3. sell things youve made (if you are smart enough to pick a class that affords the ability to build useful things).

As a novice DE i get the ability to build a tiny lump of crap that does nothing of any use. If i want to progress up the tree (and one can only hope that these droids do become useful) I need a ton of resources which will cost me a small forunte so more stupid missions. yawn. same old same old. 48000 droid exp to get to even level 1 in any single tier! this will take a lifetime of watching the screen and clicking the resources.

I dont mind doing the work (how do you think i got this far?), but this is taking the proverbial! Artisn and its associated professions are a joke. This game revolves around combat simplyu beause its the greatest payoff in the game but even that is dull (its just a pet-fest). artisans get nothing for their efforts and have to pay to continue building. what do they get in return, a bunch of crappy useless schematics for items no one wants, and now as a novice droid engineer all i can build is a single mouse droid with a choice of nothing to progeam it with? Wow im sure they wil fly off the shelves!

To be honest, i am finding it very very difficult to find the incentive to struggle further up this ladder. I wish i had never botherd with artisan to begin with (the manual said it led to smuggler but thats obviously been changed - great!) because its a joke. there have got to be better ways to spend my time than pretending that i have a useful role in a galaxy far far away when the reailty is that i dont, and i doubt droid engineer is going to change before my free month runs out.

Wow. I thought this was going to be another upbeat post that we have been seeing around lately. As for signoftheserpent, that is why you can drop your proffession, learn a new one. I am sorry you feel that way, I disagree I think the crafting side of SWG is reallly interesting, using different Quality resources will make a finished product more powerfull than a lower quality resource. Some times those specific resource does not spawn, or it has bad quality.

It sounds like it is just not for you. and this I say good bye

C'mon tell him the truth now...when you get to master DE, you get the ability to build a huge lump of crap!

I think what you meant was :

"if this is how you feel wait till you get to *master DE* and you get the ability to build a Big lump of crap that does nothing of any use! "

Afterall, the BLL is just areally bigMSE droid that doesn't beep. Let's hope that the combat modules turns the BLL into something cool and nifty keen.

I wholly agree that Novice DE is a slap in the face. You've no choice but to grind your way up to another skill box before you will be able to do anything useful. I don't agree though that all artisan based professions get shafted. It depends on what you want to do. Weaponsmiths and Armorsmiths both make things that every player needs. Architect's build the buildings that go into player cities and they also build the factories and harvesters that the other crafting professions will need.

Crafters can make good money without doing missions later if they set up a vendor in a good spot that attracts customers. But at Novice DE, it is very hard to do that. You need to advance and have some droids worth selling first. I turn a significant profit now (about 30k a day) without doing any missions at all. I sell droids, droid batteries, and droid chassis'. I also sell excess resources on the bazaar. Setting up a mining operation and selling the resources you don't need for crafting on the bazaar is actually the best way to make money early on. You can make a lot that way if you can undercut the average prices for resources in your server by a small amount and still make a profit doing it. Or you can charge more, but it takes longer that way because it sells more slowly.

DE does sort of get the shaft. The novice DE gets nothing. and overall, the profession's contributions to the community are very small compared to the skill point expense. The experimentation branch is the biggest example. Experimentation doesn't work in the DE profession much at all, so that is 14 skill points completely wasted.

the droids do get better though, but if you are expecting grand things you will be dissappointed until they fix this profession. My personal feeling is that 4/3/0/4 is all you need for DE. I'll be 4/3/1/4 soon and I can only think of two droids I can't make that might sell. I can make all the droids that sell well and I can make all the droids I'll ever need. So that is far as I'm going until the profession is fixed.

hey get a factory and make crates of droid storage compartments to sell to master artisans for the upcoming publish they need them to make those paint kits that everyone is so excited about so dont loose heart about not being able to sell anything. Oh and drop the profession if you dont like it. Drop it while there's still time!!!

Id rather drop the game than grind another 20 odd k worth of crafting xp to get something like weaponsmith.

This profession is costing me a fortune for no profit and the developers need to change this if they want people to take it seriously. Sure you can use the harvesters and generators you can build to get the crafting xp, but they dont work properly either. I logged on today to find all 4 of my harvesters were now broken to the point i cannot afford to fix them. there was no reason for this, the ones that werent working were swwitched off while the others were fully paid up. Ive sold excess resources before, but given that everyone else does the same thing you have to sell at such a low price that its not worth it (or leave them on there for weeks).

Setting up factories might be all well and good, but i am skint from having lerned noivce DE and getting the reosources to grind to that level. I really do NOT want to go through that all over again. PLus I have had enough of the crafting missions (or indeed any other) in order to raise the cash to continue this absurd process.

All for just a game! arg!

there is a bug in thestatus window that causes it to misreport the power in the harvester. you can work around this bug by turning the harvester off and then back on again and then hitting refresh on the status window. it will then correctly report the power.

other than that. harvesters work fine. if it requires maintenance then that is because you didn't put enough credits in it to cover the maintenance costs.

but if you don't like crafting, why are you doing any of this at all?

If you want your resources to sell well on the bazaar, you have to put them up for sale in a MAJOR city. If you put them up for sale just anywhere, then they won't sell well and might not sell at all.

The best thing to do is to take a ship to Coronet on Corellia and put your resources up for sale there. If you put them up for sale anywhere else, it is going to take much longer for them to sell unless you lower the price significantly.

I know thatr my harvesters work because the status window told me they were stocked up with enough power and money and were working at 100%. As far as i am concerned what happened was one of two things:

1) someone or something attacked or damaged by harvesters.

2) i got hit by some stupid bug. yay.

I picked artisan because i wanted to play a crative character who could function autonomously in a way that warriors cant and who could be something of a fixer or provider of cool items (like droids or weapons) to other players, and thus gain status and advgance that way. The first time i joined in a hunt i was killed by a monster i couldnt fight because i had spent all my time (and still do) grinding crafting. it was a crap experience because i flet that i had nothing to contribute other than a cheap pistol i rbought from the bazaar (better than anything i could build) and a funny name.

Try Bestine (please, I need the money).

Well that is kind of obvious

I swear i will never trael to coronet as long as i live. The city lags my machine so much it can take me an hour to move around the starport. No other place is like this. Possibly because of the stupidity of allowing creature handlers to let their gargantuan beasts and loadlifters and vehicles to run aroiund like a mad menagerie.
