Thread: Exploiters Heroes or Villians ??
Over here most people seem to want R2s or Surgical Droids with some requests for Protocols. The coolness factor of having a 2-1B or a blue R2 appears to outweigh the practical considerations for most players.
The bestseller is the Advanced Surgical with 2 level 4 medical modules and a Food/Chem crafting station. I *could* use the general cluster exploit and create allround droids that can do everything but actually that would be somewhat stupid - specialized Droids mean that people will have to come back to buy a new one when they need another functionality ![]()
Personally I prefer to create Droids that 'make sense' and are starwarsy - astromechs craft and repair, Probots fight (I add item storage and that's it), Surgicals heal and MSEs beep ![]()
I do the same thing.
I make 'package' droids - usually R2's or cheap R4's with 2 med 4's and a chem station.
I can't control what other DE do. I hope it comes back to bite them in the arse.
But from past experience, once an item is made it usually retains it's stats after changes or fixes are made.
I just don't even bring up things like cluster modules (most people don't even understand stacking level 4's) or Super MSE.
I tell them what I have, or ask them what they want.
Do this date no one has said so-and-so can make a droid with all the junk in it.
I usually tell them what I can legitimately put in a chassis and they say OK, give it to me.
Now that droid deeds give more information about what they contain, some people have started to pay a little more attention. But not many people even know what droids can do so it hasn't been a big issue.
Just set up your vendor somewhere else or go solo in a high traffic area with your own shop.
shows how noob I am, I didnt even know that medical units stacked.
And someone told me that all the crafting modules didn't work, I wasnt aware that putting 3 different types of them in a probot is an exploit? Surely thats what the cluster is for? If its an exploit why havent they put a rule change in to stop more than one crafting unit being added to a cluster?
I did have one experience of a customer wanting an "exploited" protocol droid, although he did not know it was so. A guildemate of his had such a protocol droid (i.e. more than 2 modules installed) and wanted to know ifI would build him a similar one. I explained to him, politely and tactfully, that the protocol droid is currently designed to hold onlytwo modules, and how putting more than two in is technically an exploit. He understood, and bought a protocol with two modules.
The moral of the story is that information provided to the customer is key. Whether it's about explaining functionality or current bugs, one job of a crafter selling his goods to potential customer will be to explain those items and issues.
As a general rule, I recommend to customers an astromech model, as they are really the utility droids of StarWarsand should be able to perform a variety of tasks. When a customer asks for more than 3 modules, I tell them it needs to go into an astromech. Astromechs are a little easier to handle anyway, since you can name them and program commands easier, plus I believe the "personal pet droid" factor is higher with an astromech as well.
You cannot do anything to change the minds of those that use the cluster exploit. As was already recommended above, the best thing to do is to set up a shop and be your own business owner, and build your droids the way you feel they should be built.
Most DE's that I know of, don't use that exploit. I just tell customers that mention it or tell me that they have had a droid with more in it, that it is an exploit and that I don't use that exploit.Just about allof them still order non exploited droids from me. It should be fixed with in the next month or two.
The fact that Cluster Modules can be placed into any droid, not just those listed as having sockets for the module, such as the Advanced R3, R2 and Surgical droid, is what is being exploited. Read the description for socket slots for the Advanced Probot and then read the socket slots for the Advnaced R3, or R2. The cluster modules weren't intended for useage in non-specific socket slots, but hasn't been fixed since release for some unknown reason to anyone but the DEV team. The next code to hit TC should have the fix for this issue.

Why are you calling this an Exploit? I make Sockets so NDEs can have something to put in their MSEs so they can make a little money to start out with...If a guild mate wants a Stacked Droid...I give it to em..otherwise unless you have 300k I don't stack mods thru clusters for the general public...Call me an Exploiter, I call you a cry baby...It's business mind you, business and I do fairly well considering...It's not an Exploit! If you wanna call it that, go cry to the devs and they'll fix it for you like they fix everything else....I was a rifleman then they were nerfed cause crybabies called exploit and overpowered...I was a CH, Crybabies called exploit and overpowered...I'm a MDE,MA, MA, and Merc and now all i hear is exploit this, exploit that....You pay your money here as do I, enjoy it and let it work for you! If you're a decent businessman then you'll figure out how to let the system work for you such as in real life...if you're not, then customers are gonna come find me for what they want....no matter what the price....
Don't Work at Wal-Mart! OWN IT! Let the system work for you and quit crying exploit just cause you don't like something!
Let the flames begin! I know it's comming!

It is an exploit and has been stated as such by the devs. It was never intended to work this way. Read the description of the socket you are putting things in. It is either a cluster socket or a module socket. I hope that they end up making excessive module droids uncallable with the upcoming patch, then you will have a bunch of unhappy people sending you tells and email. Being a decent businessman means watching out for your customers interests. If your guild mate has his 1/4 million armor stored in that droid and he can't call it after the patch, that's your fault.
They are going to remove or make uncallable all the non-CH pets that were made uber with a programming glitch. I hope they do the same with the bugged droids.

This is pretty much typical exploiter self justification.
Ditto. I'm one of the hardcore advocates against this exploit. I've been flamed numerous times for it, 1-stared, and whatnot... but it's still an exploit. I'm kinda a fanatic about it now... jumping on people before I hear the full story. LOL

An Exploit is defined as using a known bug to ones advantage and profiting off of it in some way.The Cluster Module use in non-Cluster Sockets and the stacking of Cluster Module Sockets has been deemed offically as a bug. Exploiting game mechanics has been known to get a person banned from the game.If you wish to call yourself an Exploiter and state that you use this known bug to your advantage, and those around you, here on the forums for everyone to read, including any moderator or DEV that happens to drop by, that is your call. Don't blame Sony if you get banned for such behavior, or your next forum name might be SonyScrewedMeWill(insert game company here).
