Ok, all the brokeness of DEs and still to b seen changes aside, I just wanna bring up and quick issue...

When combat droids are annouced, a LOT of crafters and even some previous combatants will flock to Droid Engineering. The same thing happened to weaponsmiths. When the game was young the elite crafter were pretty even in numbers. I recall seeing DEs (I myself was one), Architects, and even Chefs in pretty even amounts. But as the game matured suddenly there were lots and lots of weaponsmiths and not so many DEs and Architects. Why? Cause weaponsmiths had a desirable product in need of frequent replacement.

Now, fast forward to Combat droids with heal packs and Vitality. (no clue how far i just fastforwarded :smileytongue

New demand, low supply, easy money. Old DEs who dropped the skills start coming back. Power-gamer-crafters climb to MDE in a day or two. Droid Vendors start popping up all over the place. Now remember, if there are announcements BEFORE the changes, then already being a MDE is only a slight advantage depending on what you stockpile.

This sucks! But this will happen. It happened to Weaponsmiths, it happened to Creature handlers (DE used to out number CH, but only early on, power gamers picked up on creatures and switched over), it happened to TKAs, and several other classes.

I know this is an unhappy thought. But keep it in mind.

The main point of me posting this is so that all the MDEs out there who have been so since day 1, remember to stockpile so that all there dedication doesn't get drowned in a sea of power-gamers.

Can't wait to see new droids!

We'll see... I'm just glad I've got a good reputation, lots of folks waiting on me to notify them when the new combat droids become available, and a shot that is very convenient to literally the whole galaxy.

Wow, reputation, my bad, that can and WILL make a big difference. Still, you'll have the people who will undersell you to steal customers. Anyways, never nice to see your proffesion flooded by power gamers.

Well, I guess at least most of the powergamer types won't have stocks of duralloy, duralumin, ditanium, etc. etc. etc. That's the big advantage of the long-term crafter, and a really interesting side-effect of the resource system in use.

So only WE will be making, umm, Binary Load Lifters and Protocols! :-P

I don't think the sky is falling. I really don't think the Combat droids will be DE only. I do believe there SHOULD be one Heavy Combat Droid (HCD), in particular, that is M. DE specific. Also, M. DE should be able to get a cert for having 2 droids at once so we could use 2 of the HCDs in combat and be able to call out the Repair droid to hael them one at a time. There can be a 2nd HCD that non-M. DEs can use. Holo DEs are not all nessecarly M. ARTs either. They would have to buy the sub-parts from us REAL DEs w/ M. ART or another player with M. ART.

At the present, M. CH can call out 3 pets. There's changes brewing but still, if 2 M. CHs were to group, One could call out 1 or 2 "tanks" and the other could call out 2 or 3 ranged attackers with/without special DOTs. Thats alot to bring to a fight.

Presently, our probots can take some abuse with our max armor. I think combat droids should be higher armor with less dmg-per-sec while pets should be, on average, higher dmg-per-sec and keep the pet's armor/resists as they are in place already.

A limitation should be placed on the use of HCDs. Let HCD use be limited to characters that have obtained a Master Combat Elite profession. This would answer the concern about 1 hour old n00bs geting the best tank in the game. The DEVs could cert Medimum Combat droids to players with any Novice Elite Profession/Master Novice Profession thus leaving Light Combat droids available to 1 hour old characters.

Another note, the DEVs can make the resource req's rather high. Like what they have done with the upcoming Vehicles. They can make factory-made sub-parts into the schematic as well. This will make the price go up of course. With just these considerations, I don't expect to see 10% of players being M.DEs.

I look forward to being able to participate in more PvE and PvP as a result of these Combat Droids.

Unfortunately I think this is the natural way of things. The price of fixing the profession will be a LOT more competition. One can only hope that those of us who have stuck it out through the bad times will have a loyal customer base who will keep coming back even after many new DEs spring up.

I keep each droid customer who visits my vendor in my friends list under a special group name with the intention of sending them all an email when the new droids are about to come out so they know exactly where to go to get theirs

I don't think this will happen, so long as they keepMA as an almost required skill to have to be a DE. No one wants to fork out that many skill points just to make a droid if they like the combat aspect of the game too. The power gamers won't be able to be the Master TK or the Master Commando and still pick up the DE line.

maybe not master commando, but you do have enough to get a master basic and master elite (non-hybrid) profession on top of DE. I've got master DE, master medic, and (almost, need more med crafting) master Doc. Granted, this means you can't be master artisan, but if nothing else that just makes you're life so much easier. I don't think some people realize the value of not having to worry about making those parts, I just find a dependable master artisan, order a couple thousands MM's and GP's and lesser quantites of the micro sensor suites and control units and I'm done. Don't have to worry about my own factories, don't have to worry about the resources, don't have to worry about MA skillpoints, life is much easier.

i dont see powergamers going into DE for combat droids if the droids areworse than MCH pets. I'm sure we will be flavor of the month, but only for a month as people realize pets are still the best tanks.

Exactly. I never sell droid parts and never would. I make plenty without selling that stuff to keep me viable. Your big point here is 'finding a dependable master artisan'. That's almost the same as finding a reliable Master Armorsmith for composite armor segments, or a reliable Architect for power core units. It isn't that easy to do and when you need them, they aren't on. Plus, running factories for others just eats up factory time for yourself. It is too much of a pain.

IMHO I believe that allowing the CH to have 3 pets out at master has really screwed things up.

If it was only 2 then they could allow a master droid engineer to have another another +1 droid out (max 2).

That way it's nota mega advantage that would influence people to become DE's just so that they could have their own army of droids out.

If they put a cert system in the DE tree for combat droids then people WILL dabble just to get them.

But if all combat droids are CL10 but have a VERY wide range of abilities and advantages each (i.e. 1 is not better than the other). Then everyone is happy.

The advantage for a master droid engineer should be that you can pull out a crafting droid and a combat droid out at the same time.

eh, must have had different experiences than me. I've never had a supply problem with any of my sub-parts, at least, not after I got all my suply lines worked out. I never run into the problem of they're not on when I need them because I order more well before I start running out, and always have a large surpluss of parts sitting around just in case.
