Thread: Do we really need more CL10 combat droids?

Seems like the Devs believe by givingDEs a few more CL10 combat droids, it will lower the unhappiness within the DE community. They may even *believe*, deep in their hearts, thatit'ssomething DEs really want. In any case, the Devs are spinning additional CL10 combat droids as a *bone* for droid engineers.

Does any DE actually believe the addition of differedt droid skins, with no more abilities than the nerfed probots we presently have, will do anything to appease us? I, for one, think not.

How are we to know that there won't be any additional abilities? Maybe they'll make them so we can get a higher damage, but less HAM. Or special attacks/DoT's.

We probably really don't need them, but they've already begun coding them, so they're gonna give them to us.

So long as we get some SERIOUSLY NEEDED bug fixes, and some TRULY USEFUL utility modules added to the profession, I don't mind getting some different and interesting CL10 combat droids at all.

But priority must be on repairing the broken bits of Droid Engineering.

Exactly... some extra fluff for CL10 is nice and all, but if the countless bugs still persist, they're just sprinkling perfume on a steaming cowpie.

Assuming they fix all of the outstanding issues and give us more utility modules, I'd be very happy with CL10 droids, as long as they had something to differentiate them from creatures. Perhaps we could choose at build time what type of damage they would do, or maybe they could handle any type of player craftable weapon, but they can only do a default attack with it. Leave the HAM low, but the weapon choicewould give it higherdamage, leavingpets to tank and let droids hang back further letting the player take the damage.

Answer: Nope!

CL10 combat droids are a waste of time. At least a waste of time on the Eclipse server. Most ppl skill up and are on the outter planets in a matter of days. Call out a probot there and all you get to do is watch it go splat as a rancor steps on it.

LOL! I don't know how many times a high level player has asked me on Eclipse if combat droids even exist. The follow that up with the statement that they have never seen one. I just get the conversation over quick by telling them they don't exist.

Lvl 10 combat droids wouldn't be so bad if you could give them a suit of 80% composite armor and a sliced flamethrower to use. =)

See that's the problem. Everyone says that powerful droids won't imbalance combat, but this kind of thinking proves that it will. You don't want a slight a boost in power that a droid would provide, you want a droid that's capable of roughly the same combat level that you as a player are capable of. So you want to double your power.

Why does everyone think CHs were repeatedly nerfed? It was because you could easily and for very few skill points become several times more powerful than you by yourself by having a huge armored pet in front of you. High level combat droids without a Droid Handler profession would mean that everyone with enough credits could double their existing combat effectiveness, which would require yet another round of combat rebalancing.

Actually, the talking combat droids would be nice again. I remember my old probot giving me lip whenever I told him to go attack something. Stuff like "Sure, make me take all the lumps", "You afraid you might get scratched?", that kind of stuff.

Mypoor ole "Squid"got trashed during the perma-death screw over the Dev's put in. I enjoyed him much more than my current probot.

Last thing we need is a repeat of the BE/CH screw up. Why do you think there's no ppl playing BE's? Because its crap! There should be certifications foranyone with an advanced professionfor medium level combat droids, say CL10 to CL20. But the really powerful combat droids should be DROID ENGINEER only, NOT some new and lame Droid Handler profession. By no stretch of the imagination can you say there should be a profession that builds a machine but doesnt have a clue how to use it. That's just STUPID! Every engineer IRL knows how to use what he designs and builds. If he doesn't he can't design and build it to begin with. And don't try and tell me otherwise. I'm a engineer IRL and I know better. We don't need to follow the broken BE/CH model. In fact, the opposite should be done. The BE and CH should be merged into one profession. That corrects the design error instead of doubling it by creating a DE/DH combination.

This has been debated before and it won't make a difference here. I'm an engineer too, but if I said I could flythe combat jet that I design thecontrol surfacesfor, I would be dead before I took off. Do you design the flaps? The control sticks ? The HUD's and RadAlt's ? The munitions ? The landing gear ? The wire harnesses that hook them all together ? I guess your just one smart mofo to do everything. I guess it's possible if you lived to be 300, but I don't see many of those around my office.

This sort of stupid debate needs to stop.

So I guess any engineer at NASA can just jump in the shuttle and take it out for a spin? Anyone involved in the design of a tank can just hop in the turret and off he goes?

Yes, the engineers who design and build these things do know what all the levers and buttons do, but that's not all that it takes to properly utilize complex pieces of machinery. There are certain other skills that just have to be mastered.

All of which has little to do with droids, I admit, but I couldn't just let such a statement lie.
