Thread: GameZone SWG player's review Feb. 26
GameZone letter to the editor Feb 26, 2004
Although I don't have such a bleak view of the whole thing, I sure agree that the skeleton crew needs to be fleshed out, heh.
HANG IN THERE DE's!!
I can only hope you guys stick around and hold out thru all these hard times. Without u guys, the BHs can't function. We can also sympathise with a lot of things you're going thru. I don't love the fact that I haven't bought a Seeker in 5 months, it's a good bug for me for once, but should seem fairly easy to remedy to fix u guys, IMHO.
You're not boasting IN the article, you're boasting by posting the fact
that the article is on that page at all.
I understand that is not a "PC" essay, as you put it. That's nothing new.
As if there aren't enough negative comments about the game out there to
read. It's the intelligent well thought out ones that bring the good and
the bad to light that are the tough ones to find.
Let us say that some SOE suit or a Dev did go to read your walkthrough.
What would they take away from it?
"This guy is kind of upset about the way BH was after release. OK. We have
a whole forum full of that."
This is my point. Why did you post the link here? It has nothing to do with
us. It doesn't do anything to make us feel appreciated. I spent time reading
about BH problems that don't affect me. Plus, as far as I know from the article,
they could be fixed already.
Why would any DE care?
That's why it seems like nothing but bragging about the fact that you wrote this
thing that some sight chose to post.

Well I'm glad he posted it, because it is very accurate.
SOE's machinations have been opaque at best, blatantly and painfully obvious at worst.
I hate to say it (*throws salt over shoulder*) but sometimes I wish Raph was still around - at least his manipulation of the community was amusing, not just depressing as most "hit and runs" by red-names these days.

Audio, I'm sorry, but that's where it falls short.
there are too many assumptions, vague statements, sweeping generalizations,
spiteful jabs, and conflicting/confusing comments in it to be accurate.
In his rebuttal to my first post, he doesn't argue one large point:
"It was full of incomplete and misleading information."
It just seemed overly aggressive in a non-commital way.
"BH was broken!
BH was still broken!
BH wasn't fixed yet!
then they published a bunch of fixes...
(pause)
SWG is all broken!"
/shrug
Maybe it made some sort of clear statement about the game that I'm just missing.
I don't think so, though.

But as someone who has watched and participated in this game since beta, just about everything he said made perfect sense because I've seen it all myself.

I'd agree that a lot of what was stated sounded familiar.

It may not be great journalism (it was simply a letter to the editor, after all), but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think most of what he said was spot-on.

It's my personal feeling that somewhere......somehow.....the focus on the number of SWG subscriptions eclipsed the focus on making the best possible product/service. I would state that focusing on the latter would take care of the former.
In that regard, I think that the reviewer did a good job voicing concerns about what's been done, development-wise, so far.
It makes me sad, really. I know that this probably isn't quite the SWG that we had all hoped it would be (at this point) so many moons ago.
However...........it is getting better and better, bit by bit (double-pun, anyone?)

Respectfully,
release, so I've been through it all, too.
I admitted in my first post that I agree with many of his
points. I was questioning the overall usefulness of the letter,
that all. It seems a bit schizophrenic.
My main question/comment was about the purpose of it being
posted in the DE forum.
Are you saying that the Seeker/Probe droid bug hasn't been fixed yet?

I'm 99.9% sure that the BH droid fixes are happening as part of Publish 7 (now on TC).
If someone blue knows otherwise, please let us know.
