Thread: So now your a master doctor...what now?
I am one crafting bubble away from master doc (talk about grinding) and already I am getting a little bored. I have tried to supplement my boredom by going into a melee class (I am almost anovice fencer as well) and I have even joined a faction (covert..although considering how many times I get killed in the med center by overt CM's running in and throwing poisons and disease at me and then burst running away (this is really lame btw)..i might as well go overt). I have a pretty good relationship with the med centers that I frequent and I have good chats with all my regulars (most of them remember when i was a novice medic and persist in calling mea big furball (im a wook)). So since I am just about to hit master doc and I refuse to give up surveying 4 (no way im doing this again), engineering 4, and exploration 3....I can only go so far as a fencer (or any other tree for that matter...unless it is another crafting class like weaponsmith).
This leaves me in what I percieve as an interesting situation as a non-combat oriented elite class member (wow...im elite :wink
. There is a limit to what I can do as a master doctor from a quest standpoint...so for the purposes of the FSS...I don't think I would ever be able to unlock it with this character (assuming that some type of combat related quests (like getting badges)are required to get it). So I'm left with what should I do as a master doctor that would keep me "hooked" and entertained. I could go visit other MED centers throughout the galaxy (i.e.....explore)...but I would not want to take xp away from other med\doc's and I certainly could not heal for free just for the heck of it. I could make a factory and sell stim b's like everyone else...but wouldn't that get old too? Ok...then I could make kick a** enhancement packs and sell them (well apply them for a price)...but that would get old to I think. I mean..ok...Icollect 1 million credits for selling tons of stim's and enhancements...as a non-combat elite class...what in the world would I do with more credits? Unless I go out on raids (which would only give me so much once i quickly fill up 2 or 3 fencer bubbles) it is becoming apparent to me that I may get bored of my favorite character that I have invested an obscene amount of time in (according to my other half). I could go on..but I think anyone who is still reading gets the point.
As a master doctor...what does one do to keep him\herself entertained?
I have another character that I am working on that is all combat oriented...but I really enjoy playing the rare Wookiee Imperial Doctor (the hit I take for being a wookiee IMP with regards to FP pretty much prevents me from getting faction pets...it just isn't worth it for the time involved..I mean I get on average 20-30 FP per IMP mission...and to get an AT-ST for a non-human is like 30,000 FP...that would take an obscene amount of time for me (and forget about buying\trading faction pets after the last nerf)).
Anyhow...thanks for letting me vent...I'll figure something out eventually...I just hope it doesn't mean retiring my doc.
When I reached this, I wondered the same thing. But I am in a large guild and am the only master Doctor in it. There is one novice Doctor and some medics as well.
I have found that I am constantly busy. Every hunting group in the guild usually invites me along, even if its a small closed one. I have been to all the frontier planets, often times my fee there and back paid because they wanted me there so much. Given, what I feel, is more than my share of credits in missions. Tipped constantly, given more organics/inorganics than I can possibly use. I have never felt so needed in an online game.
So I suggest join a good solid guild, if you haven't already. They will treat you like royalty.
I've been a Master for some time now, but I still get a kick out of joining a hunting group and selling buffs for people on the pack. For whatever reason, the great response a nice 1700+ buff gets just feels like nailing a pitch. Plus, you can get these people to help you complete your theme park missions. Just because you're not a combat type doesn't mean you can't help out and net combat xp. No reason those missions have to be done solo.
Basically, its the other people that keep me interested. Going with some friends on an Ewok smackdown party is a blast. The nice part is that you're no longer having to focus on xp, so you can just do whatever you want. Take a new medic under your wing now that you're no longer fighting with each other over med xp. Get more involved with your faction. As a support type, your services are invaluable on the field of battle. Or maybe you should retain your covert status and dispense propaganda at your enemies cities. I saw a similar conversation on Talus where a sympathizer tied up a PC Stormtrooper who had to defend his behavior. It was great stuff.
Of course, I'm also liking the vendor side of our profession. Having people comment on how much they like your Stim-Bs and keep coming back asking when your next crate will be ready makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
get out of the med centers. and dont be worried about stealing other peoples exp. theres more than enough medic exp out there for everyone.
So your not combat oriented?
What motivates you in the game then? If it's interaction with others then you might think about:
- Joining a PA (learn to use their chat and teach them how - guild chat is bad in the game, but it's there)
- Become an entertainer too (I've done this on other servers when Chilastra is down - fun for chatting).
- Become an artisan and set up a shop.
- Put on the Helper tag and teach new players about the game.
- Do delivery missions for your faction
There are lots of things to do if you wish to remain non-combat oriented, but since you are also a fencer, I'm guessing you like a little combat and that opens up all the different combat related content:
- Join a PA and go on raids, hunts, etc.
- Do missions, do faction missions, do NPC missions (they scale to your ability in combat)
- Build up faction rank. Buy faction pets, Buy faction instillations and defend them.
- Visit battlefields (the ones that work)
- Do themepark missions for your faction or for Jaba
- Join a group on an endgame planet and hunt big baddies
If you are one of those players that feels like they are "done" when you reach the end of your skillpoint allotment, then you are probably going to churn right out of SWG. It's skill based in advancement and everyone will soon be "done".
I spend 70% of my time now going on survey missions for OQ:900+ resources and harvesting them. There isone nice thing about being a master docwhen you're 3-4km from the nearest outpost on Dathomir- you know that you'll at least be able to heal your sorry butt if you get into a bad scrape.
Haven't tried PA's yet... I'm hoping that eventually some Docs, CMs, Master Medics - even Chefswill get together and form a Holistic Healing Body & Mind PA. It'd be great to be able to swap resources with others for the meds I want to make.
Also, I've found that using your experimentation pts for "ease of use" to get the med use points down allows you to sell a lot more [Res kits, Sim-D's, cure blindess, stun, intimidate, poison and disease] packs on Frontier worlds like Dath, Dant, Lok, etc.
I'm thinking of pursuing the Chef line so I can round out my healing capabilites with creating mind healing buffs.
Yeah...the reason I got fence was I could heal myself quickly (curved sword with a 1.6 speed...mmm) while I was out getting med resources. My problem is that I choose the empire...which means pets are like 3-4 times more expensive to get because I am not human....I really don't want to spend a week to save up enough for one pet. You could say I did it to myself...but I honestly enjoy doing IMP work on bloodfin. I think I will survive and I am definately not going to leave SWG...I was just wondering what I was gonna do once I hit master. Maybe by then (another week of crafting) they will fix the factory bug and I can at least get some cash flowin. Thanks everyone for the replies.

Find a guild that doesn't have any doctors in it.. You'll be on call all the time to make medicines, heal, buff, and generally be begged to go out on hunts.
Well Doc is a support profession. As such it doesn't particularly work as well solo, especially with the mind damage problems. So I stick to hunting and questing and exploring in groups. For me that's a lot of fun and what I enjoy. So that's what I do, go out with my group. WHen they aren't around or if I have spare time I make Bs for sale. Not what I really want to do, mind you, but it's really my only source of income as a pure support-role character (being MD and MCM)
Buffs don't sell all that well for several resons. Some Docs have been selling a full slate of buffs for some really lowball prices, like 1k for a full slate fo 6 buffs. That's a lot of time and money spent on buffind someone that could easily make 13k a mission on an advanced planet in half the time it took you to buff them. So it's seriously undervaluaing the value of a buff, but then the other players get used to that price and call you a greedy SOB if you charge a more reasonable rate (say 1cr per point buffed, maybe 7-8k average for a full slate). Not to mention that with no insurance costs right now people will jsut go do two of those 13k missions and just get killed to get back to the base to get more missions that much more quickly, meaning a 2-3hr buff means nothing to them since it will dissapear after only 10 minutes once they've cloned, further devaluing buffs.
So Stim Bs are the money maker for the profession. Just gotta do it, really, if I want to have the creds to travel to those advanced planets with my friends, maintain my haversters and factory and house, and so on.
Never seen a million creds, though. I think about 150k is the most I've ever had at one time from making a big Stim sale.Took about a week to make all the components and stims just to do that, not counting the time it had taken me earlier to get all the resources to make that large of a batch to begin with. So making millions might be doable, but it's not all that likely to do using your Doc skills, IMHO. You'd ahve to get it other ways, like doing missions or going up an advanced artisan tree.
So groups it is, for a Doc, really. That's what I enjoy.
Oh, and personally I HATED the grind. It was monotonous and a drudge to get to the point where I got my character where I want him to be. SOme poepl feel like they've done what they set out to do and so the game loses interest for them. For me it's just the beginning. There's just a TON of stuff that I want to do still that I finally feel like I have the skills to accomplish.
