Thread: maybe Im just a little bit to proud. (a rant about paitents being pushy/abusive)
I speak up: "This is a medical center, not a wal-mart, you will have to wait just like every one else did" I was too late, many medics and docs were already attending him. he badicly tells me that because we are poor and he isn't he can make us do back-flips for nickles. of course he dosn't say this so everyone can hear. Now, I may be poor, but I have standards, and I think they are right, I heal on who comes in first, no matter how much they beg, ask, or bribe. I think it makes our proffession look cheap when stuff like this happens, Doctor is one of the few elite professions, and we are important to the community.
I get frustrated, so I finish my case, and decide to do some healings out in the street, (I advertise with my healing droid) a CH comes up to me, dosn't say a word, pulls out some kind of pet, and I presume that he wants it healed, so I start healing it. Then he says while Im healing it "heal me (insert generic insult here) before my animal, **edit** it!" I went, out of my way, out of the med center, of my own free will to go into the street, and heal people, and this is what I get? Why do I get the impression that us healers are considered second class citizens?
maybe Im just having a bad day, or maybe healers take too much crap because we need the money.
I play to enjoy, not to take someones crap.
Happens all the time. Yet live with this fantasy ( I know it gets me through many a session).
It is 3 am, the PvP is not going well for some, you are the only medic on duty. In comes the Expert Marksman who stiffed you the night before. His HAMs are are as blackened as Louisiana Catfish. He wants to play. You go AFK.
By the same token, I have told players that I was just about to log and go to bed. The screen is starting to blur, my fingers hurt from repeatedly hitting the healwound hotkey and I am down to my last woundpack and crafting on the fly sucks. It was nearly a month ago, but I will never forget the 10,000 credit tip that I received. I even asked if it was a typo. I was too dumb to addfriend that night, but where ever this Bounty Hunter, Marksman or whatever is roaming, he needs to know that that tip bought meds (and exp) that aided many others for a good long time and made it easier to toss another month's subscription money into the SOE hopper.
Unfortunetly this game allows other people to play. If only they were all nice NPC's!
Seriously though I knew I'd be dealing with jerks as a healer and I've come to love my character's persona because of it.
I play a "country" doctor, and as such I can often be found on Talus healing all by myself. In these remote locations the rude are ignored because "I'm sleeping" or I'm "gone fishing" or what have you. I've proven my abilities and attitude to enough people that those who are good to me can get "house calls." (I've flown from my house on Corellia to Talus just to heal one person) When I'm visiting the "big city" (Cornet) I've gotten many compliments for my funny bedside manner and fairness when it comes to patients. I create lines, act like a receptionist/nurse while complaining about the hospital not paying for one, and be a general fun medic. Now that I'm almost a doctor (Master medic yay!) I'm slowly evolving my persona into a "grouchy old country doctor." More fun and it lets me "play" with the noisy and rude patients because, heck I don't NEED them.
It's a simple thing really, remember, they NEED us, we don't NEED them. Why? Because I don't HAVE to heal, they NEED to be healed. A nice thing to remember, especially when you're the only doctor around. (In fact I highly recogmend visiting Talus since doctors are in short supply, and hence treated MUCH better. As are entertainers. Which is why I do both some nights. It's fun to say "Okay, when I'm done with this set we'll all cruise over to the med center for some drugs!
")
Just yesterday, I walked out of the med center after healing myself and found a guy in the same faction incap'd just outside from a pvp fight. No mind left and obviously a mind bleed. So I started hitting him with the first aid. Three first aids later, he was standing, but the bleed was still going. He then told me that he'd tip me 1k to stop the bleeding. Fair enough.
Up came this random guy I had never met before, who then asked me for pharm 1 training or something. As I didn't want to miss a beat and watch this guy get incap'd again, and because I now had a TEF and wanted to keep an eye out for trouble, I asked him to wait a minute.
He said forget it and started bitching about how people couldn't do something so simple as invite and teach(if exp wasn't capped, my app exp would be over 5000 by now
Anyway, he's on my ignore list now. I don't tolerate rudeness from random strangers, and you get only one chance with me. That means no training from me, no healing, no rezzing, no helping, no grouping, etc. Ever. That goes for anyone who makes my blacklist. My point is, don't take it. I figure most people won't go as far as I will, but we're not here for everyone else to step on. I don't understand the mentality of other medics/docs let people step all over them. The Flanders's of SWG. Kudos to the ones who don't, though.
As for the docs rushing to heal the arrogant tipping guy...rofl. Yeah, have a little pride! If money is an issue, I wouldn't count on the tips or some new game payment system to provide income. If you don't want to do combat, at least run enough missions to buy some mineral harvesters and work your way up from there. Better to do a little boring work sometimes than to be someone else's dog, imo.
The situation you decribed of people rushing to heal the guy who will pay is an unfortunate effect of the hideous economic condition of the Meds/Docs. It's really sad, but since people don't have to pay, they won't. Next time you walk into a med center and you think people should get paid just tell everyone in the center that they should charge for healing, if they go along, you'll be set, if not move along.
I personally like healing in Wayfar. "What? You don't want to pay? Enjoy the walk back to Bestine." I don't think that I should be rich, just that I should be able to buy my supplies, and right now money from healing isn't cutting it. Crafters, combaters, bounty hunters and smugglers all get XP and money for using their skills, why shouldn't Medics and Entertainers?
too bad Doctors can't set up vendors (A surgical droid with med vat next to it) at their houses, you pay the venderX number of credits forX number of wounds healed. That way like other crafters you can get money for your profession. I would never putone up (having a house negates being a wanderer)but may Doctors would benefit from them and a Docotrs healing vendor out in the middle of teh wilds would be a bonus for combatants.
I saw this happen earlier today, I walk in to the med center and see one medic and about 4-5 patients. I had my TK tag up and needed to make more wound packs, so i sat outside with my droid, crafting. A guy walks in states that he will pay5000for a fast heal, all of a sudden i see two other medics come running from nowhere. Now the three of them are healing him, they finish and he states that since so many people healed him he doesn't have enough money for all of them and leaves. I laughed and decided not to go in.
When i started this game i told myself that i didn't want to be a medic or a doctor in this game. I'm a FF/EMT-B in RL and the last thing i need is to deal with rude and abrasive people in a game, I have enough of that at work;but here I am anovice doc and kicking myself for being such a sap.
Here's some general advice i give to all people in the medical professionin RL and in the game. People don't call 911 just to invite the guys on the ambulance over for dinner. When you meet new people it's usually at their worst; they are sick, wounded or dying, so don't take anything they say to you personally.
I'm nice to everyone once, if you feel the need to act like a jackass then i'll treat you like one.
I don't heal anybody (Except friends) without payment up front. As a master doctor I am the ultimate in wound healing power, and I have no use for medical XP so I can just tell anyone who is rude to bugger off.
If somebody walks into a med center and i'm sitting there healing nobody, and they say they'll tip for a fast heal, I tell them once they pay i'll fix em up. If they say heal first you know they were lying about the tip (95% of the time) and I tell them to bugger off.
As some examples stated above, the economy for the meds/docs/CM's is pretty much in the can. Entertainers are in the same boat pretty much.
If someone is rude to me I simply double the price over and over until they pay or I get tired of them, although if you heal out in the "country" they will usually get desperate and pay the charge. In wayfar some guy felt it was his personal quest to get a freebie heal out of me (half wounds), he stopped harassing me after I got up to 5000 credits for his heal.I normally charge 750 for half wounds, 1500 if you have BF.
The economy for meds/docs/CM's on pretty much any server is in the can IMO, I fight hard on my home server to drill it into people's heads that medics are not to be trod upon. What will happen if we are driven off by masses of rude freeloaders? Well, it looks like that particular server will grind to a halt as many people take novice medic and have to start learning what we go through everyday to heal.
You just can't let those people get you down. Personally I am no docter. I am not really a healer. I have some medic skills just to heal my pets and people out in the boonies that I hang with. I never liked the healing profession. Not out of any hatered for them it just isn't my style. I have huge respect for anyone who is a healer. Its one of the most needed professions out there and you guys keep us alive. Even when healing wounds in a med center I still hvae the utmost respect and never ask for a wound heal if I can. What Peonssaid kinda bugs me. I know you need cash but to me its just rude to do the whole money up front thing. No trust in this world. I tip generously and I am pretty **edit** poor but when some healer of any kind comes right out and starts to heal my wounds out of the kindness of their heart (or they just want xp i don't care) I tip generously. Having to ask someone and say yea I want 750 credit up front please. Its like gee thanks. I know you gotta make money but the command is called /tip not /pay.
If some of you are saying that it is like that because others that gip you on your tip make you like that then well guess what. You have just become like them. It is the whole moral battle everyone goes through for everything out there. I won't rant anymore just say to Nematocyzedand all those other medics or docters and the like to hold on. There are good people out there. Please don't change you ways, we respect you and need you. You make us want to play the game. Thank you
That gets my message across, and ends the conversation right there and then. I just got fed up with the crap from players demanding healing (mostly for free). Now I know that there are players out there who do appreciate what we do, but I'm not prepaired to sift through all the others to get to you people, it's not why I became a Doc.
I became a Doc, well because I've always played healers and I am the only one in my PA, which makes me a valuable asset to the PA.
Until Sony implements a system where I can charge a set amount of money for my healing, then I won't do it, collecting my resources costs me a fortune (I use only the best materials I can find and all advanced components).
No I'm not a Doc to become rich, I simply just wish to be able to survive healing people, which means costs to cover my house, factory, and 7 harvestors.
Finally maxed my Med xp last night so no more healing in the med centre for me. I don't mind not making much in tips, and even not getting tips, but when I spend 5 minutes healing someone one and not even a thanks it sucks.
On another note, grinding BEC's and Deliever shells SUCK! - I grinded for about 3 hours last night and I'm now advanced crafting.....
I was in the med center in theed a few days ago healing. One guy came in and had maybe 1/3 of his HAM down, so I went about healing him up. It didn't take to long and he was gtg. Then this guy tipped me 1500crs. It was by far the biggest tip I got yet.
A few mins later another guy walks in with over half his HAM gone. I went about healing him up, this took more then a few mins. After all was said and done he tipped me 5crs, yup 5 whole credits, but I guess that's better then no tip at all like alot of peeps do.
I'm about to stop healing peeps in med centers and just heal my guildmates and friends out in the feild. It's just costs to much and you get no return, no tip or 5 credits just aint worth it anymore.
