Thread: NERF Doctors?

Nerfing always gets the profession's attention. Now seriously consider:


nuetron pixie/muon gold: 10 min duration, downer


Power Boost (TKA): 6-10 min duration


Breath of Heaven/Tatooine Sunburn/Food in General: 5-11 min duraion


Doctor Buffs: 2 hours...



Give me an honset assetment from you who play the profession- do your buffs need to be "nerfed" as to duration? Maybe 10 mins? 20 mins?


Alternatively, should food/powerboost/spices need thier duration increased to better match yours? Maybe only 1/4 of yours(i.e. 1/2 hour or so) to make it more comparable?



Personal statement: I'm a commando/tka who, when buffed with your master doc buffs, can wear a full set of composite and spam specials indefinitely (although this may be changing somewhat with the next patch- we'll have to see...). In PvE practically invincible and i never have to worry about it for 2 hours... And yet i was once a fencer (smuggler spices 4) and remember how hard it was to convince anyone my spices were worth it... Doctor Buffs was a familiar mantra against using spice or food (i.e. why bother).


What do you think? Any Docs care to give an honest assesment or am i going to be flamed by the little people?

Doctor Buff can be nurf to 10 min if they make it so that only smuggler can "inject" their drug to customer in person.


When they make it so that only chef can "feed" their food to their customer in person


then and only then can they shorten the duration of Doctor buff.


but you knew that already.

Well, as of right now, quality does not matter for the spices...any junk material will make the same as anyone else. So if I use junk materials in buffs, my duration will go down. Anyway, if they are gonna nerf something, why not shuttle times or something that matters.

People think they need to charge an arm and a leg for medical resources, but want to be healed for free! If they nerf buffs, i will start to charge everyone i heal. This is the only way Docs can make money. We can't just go and torch something for 4k damage. Nerf that

With all of teh combat changes coming the point is moot. TH has already stated that things will be out of whack and unbalanced until they complete the process. Until then we have no way of knowing how buffs will affect the balance.


Also as mentioned here Doctor buffs are a good deal different from the other buff methods (except for Musician/Dancer buffs which have similar duration and level). They are far more expensive and difficult to make and must be applied by a Doctor. The other buffs are usable by anyone at any time of their choosing, and as such can provide an immediate boost for a combat session. Doctor buffs, on the other hand, require more time to apply and are not easily applied with any such expediency in the field.


A lot of that is not so easy to see as the recipient of those buffs, but the power and capabilities one has using these buffs actually underlines a point I have had for a very long time, that we are likely undercharging for them.

Zalor: Your right to a point that the coming changes are important, though it doesn't change the relative strength of doc buffs vs. all the other buffs.



I take the point that doc buffs are harder to craft and a doc must apply them (which i was btw so don't rag on me b/c i'm a commando).


I, however, note that doc buffs are on average 12 times longer in duration and 3-4 times as strong.



As to pricing, Zarlor, consider this:


Dantooine picket missions... ~10k per... fully buffed, i can solo 2 missions in ~15-20 mins (honestly i think even less)... for a 2 hour buff job, thats ~60-80k... so what would i pay for full buffs? 5-6k (the typical price)? In a heart beat. 10k? Sure. 12K? Sure. 20k? Maybe, if i knew i was doing missions for the full 2 hours...


Number of times i've seen 2 docs competing with each other for buffs? 0.


Conclusion: Docs- don't go into any business profession... You don't understand the basics...

besides what now that you are a master from using buffs to get there - you wish to deprive others of getting there ? what could be your motivation - or did you think before you posted ?

and in keeping with tradition - 3 posts - Dude my buffs last over 3 hours - so get the facts straight before you make me post and waste precious time I could be spending sitting on my bupkis waiting for a shuttle ... !

You can buy CRATES of Smuggler buff anywhere anytime and buff yourself with Spice at anytime. Sometimes it's impossible to find a Doc to buff you, and that's why I became a Doc. I got tired of waiting 2 hours looking for a buff that would buff.


And crafting those Enhance pak are so much of a pain that I buy my Ehance pak and I know a lot of Master Doc also buy Enhance pak instead of crafting. Nerfing Buff would kill the Doc profession is that's the Doc strong point.

already filled * sorry 10 hours at work today - really though the whole buff thing makes perfect sense - sit down and actually think about it and youll see - its really very very well thought out - and is pretty good considering the characters never develop as they level- like most other games
