I've been lacking in my posting as of late. I'm still being the same little troll I've always been though. The main reason I'm not posting much is because I just don't care anymore. Those that are against the CU have already made up their minds about it, so it's really worthless to even voice my opinion in most cases, and so I'm not.

I for one like the overall direction the CU is taking. What I don't like is whatSOE has done to the community. Not so much the professions, but the community. This is probably my favorite forum to post in, because at one time we all liked the profession. We all had to deal with the same questions, and for the most part we all agreedwith one another. Lately though that's not the case and it sucks.

Everyone has there own opinions of the changes, and that's fine. Now more then ever though, this forum that I used to love to participate in has just gotten....stupid. And some people may take that the wrong way but I don't really care to be honest. The vast majority of us all had the same type of playstyles before the CU went to TC, it didn't matter what you considered yourself we were all "Doctors" in SWG. Now though I've seen a huge "fault line" between us who are considered "Crafters, Buffers, or Healers".

Heck I will be the first to admit that I blamed the CU changes on the people that played the profession "Wrong" (in my eyes of course, so if you wanna flame I don't really care). We all had different play styles, but now with the CU everyone is "Equal", and you either play it or you don't. I don't think I have ever, in the nearly 2 years I've played the game, seen the Doctor forum this divided on a single issue. And for the most part that issue is Crafting and/or "Magic".

It's a shame tosee the "Old guys/ladies" leave the profession they have worked so hard to make better, and even if I didn't know you I'm gonna miss everyone that stops playing the game. And I really mean that.....Me on the other hand, I'll be sticking around, playing Doctor until the game dies, or I quit for whatever reason. But for now I'm just going to sit on the side lines, because it's just not worth it anymore. We are to divided and nothing is getting done....sure people may be testing, but there is no focus like there use to be.

So since I already wrote a short story, I'll catch you all on the flip side when I get back for SW Celebration.

Respectfully,

What you are seeing played out in this forum is a classic case model for any large change.

1. Denial "Will they really remove crafting", "Can we get them to change it back?" etc. Are all examples of avoiding the issue.

2. Remorse "I like it the way it is, I dont want it to change", "Oh this just sucks, I am leaving"

3. Loss "What will I do now?", "What will happen to all my stuff"

4. Settling in to the new.

5. Back to the norm.

It would be unnatural to not feel or go through these things when something you care about changes. I work in the micro-electronics industry. Since it is such a volitile climate we have to take classes on how to cope with change. I worked on a project to develope a new style of memory for almost 3 years. It got canned in Dec. So many hours of RL hope, time, energy, etc ... gone.

It is the same thing in this game.

It is to be expected that during the first few phases of change that there is a lot of venting. It is healthy, actually. Charring common ground. This is why I have not tried to stop it.

You can not force a widow to stop grieving. She will start dating again when she is ready.

The mood on the forum will change for the better soon enough. My advice it to continue to test the CU and post the facts you find. I think we will loose many docs who played it for the features it offered. I think with the CU we will gain some for the new features it offers. Who knows what the net will be.

There is also a model for team developement (storming, forming, norming and performing) my rant is already a bit long so I will save that for another post.

Yeah I understand that....and I will continue to post my findings if I can stop having this CTD bug (prays it is fixed tonight). It's just kinda frustrating that our professions (Medic, CM, Doc) are changing so much yet we can't focus long enough on the bugs to get them fixed. We can't even focus long enough to document changes suchs as recovery times for races, amounts healed, ect. Heck Armorsmiths, Weaponsmiths, even commandos, and some other professions are actually getting changes because of feedback in there forums.

I look around other forums, and while many are like ours, there is atleast some focus in them....where people are making an effort to redocument the profession. Seems all we can do is flame eachother, and post "I quit" threads. Really nothing constructive for me to offer anymore, so once that aspect of our Doctor Community comes back...so will I. Until then I'm sitting on the bench cheering for SOE to make the game more fun.

Well I for one have noticed your absense, whatever that's worth...

However I'd contribute that the forum has changed because SOE is forcing the change. The profession was, before, always about crafting, healing and even buffing. However we were all one. The value of the profession was that it could be played so many different ways, something not many other professions could say.

However with the lessening of buffs and the departure of crafting, the lines have been made clear. To the healers, this is a purification of those who played the game "wrong".

To the crafters, its the largest smack in the face, (for reasons we're all painfully aware of).

As for me, I'll be leaving the doctor ranks soon after the CU goes live methinks. Seehealing for me was always something I enjoyed as I was travelling. I liked wandering into med centers or starports and healing wounds/curing diseases and poisons. I healed from time to time when I grouped, however it really wasn't a passion of mine. I am much more of an academic doctor (crafter), than a healer after all, and to have a profession I once truly loved reduced to being so one sided, (combat healer), is disappointing, and I really can't see any benefit keeping so many SP tied up ONLY to heal. Group ambulance was never my playstyle and it never really will be. I like crafting and combat, (hence the Rifleman), and healing, though it made me feel good, was a side gig. I LOVE the challenge of crafting meds. The variations, the results, the factory runs, the stocking of the vendor, the economic studies of selling product, and yeah, even the money. It wasn't my sole reason for being a doc of course, but it was the side I enjoyed the most.

However there is very good news!

Your forum will be restored soon. You'll be able to focus again and things will get done. Order will be fully restored.

This is because after the CU goes live, we crafters won't be allowed to play in any doctor reindeer games. The purification will be complete and thecancerous growths known as crafters and, even worse, buff-bots, will be expunged.

You'll find most of us in the BE forum, (those who don't quit outright), where there is another divide already in place which will become official after the CU. There adabbler BE, (0004), will craft BE products, (meds) equal to a Master BE. Suddenly that profession will share time with these new upstarts thrust into their midst and the chaos will reign there for many months. Things won't be in focus and things won't get done as neatly as they are now.

But that's our problem now.

Peace will be restored to the noble, proud doctor ranks, (which is ONLY about healers after all, anyone who didn't play as a healer just wasn't a true doctor...), and the damage to the community, the BE community anyway, will begin.

Very well said.

I lament the unrest that is currently present in this forum and expect it to follow myself and the other pharmacists into the BE profession. Hopefully there will be some peace in that forum, or else the pharmacists will be a profession without a forum (or even their own profession it seems).

Oh, and the unrest will continue because once the crafting docs find out that, at 0404 BE we can use our SEAs to outcraft the masters in the tissue market, many of them will start grinding tissues and selling them far below the current BE market rates because, to the docs, it's nothing more than a secondary market and a quick way to make a buck...(er, cred).

Add to it the turf war that's already started and we're going to be having loads of fun!

Think of it this way, crafting docs are all from Alderaan and the CU is the Death Star with an attitude...

Which step in the process was it when I canceled all of my accounts? Probably anger.

To me the combat revamp is like a car accident; I've come to accept what is happening to the game though I'll never understand the motivation behind it. I really am baffled by the decisions SOE is making and with the MMOG market the way it is (and SOE's hardly enviable customer support, development, and track record) I have serious, serious worry about the fate of the game.

I work in a pretty rough business where things are constantly changing and I live in fear of not getting my next paycheck, perhaps what makes me the angriest about this retooling of the game is that I'm totally helpless and for once I can't pipe in with my idea and help make it better.

But I had a lot of fun playing, who knows, maybe after the dust settles I may come to like SWG2/EQ3/whatever you want to call it. But it will never make sense why they did it.

Tip to LEC/SOE: Sci-Fi MMO players don't necessarily belong to the same resource pool as fantasy MMO players.

I'm terribly sorry, but you couldn't be more wrong. Yes, your industry is volatile and time you devoted to a project you were personally invested in may seem to have been lost but you were paid for your labors. In the case of the game, money and time we all invested has been summarily nullified.

The time and money you've invested is only lost if you had no fun playing for that time. We pay SOE for access to the game as it is right now. It is their right to change it whenever they see fit, and our right to cancel our subscriptions. I see Marrow's point in his RL example. Yes, he was paid for his time, but anyone who works on a project for an extended time, only to see it canceled prior to completion is going to feel like that time was wasted. Those who enjoy their work are getting more out of it than just a paycheck.

Yeah, the BE forums are getting heated....we haven't had this many posts there in a month total that we get in a day now..lol.

As for the BE 0004 crafters doing 0404 for a quick credit...well, there is no such thing as a rich BE. I'm selling a full run of the BSN additives for 1.1 mil. The cost to craft this is about 800-900k...not much profit in BE. Anyone that thinks picking up that 2d line in BE is going to make them rich is in for a shock...lol

Don't worry, I won't fall off the thread....I just gotta get ready to travel 2000+ miles to get to the SW Celebration, so that I can eat breakfast with the devs....Then I will come back and share the wealth. However I normally post at work...and the Network guys blocked anything SW related (bastards). So I gotta post when I'm at home now. Anyways I leave tomorrow to start the long haul and to get some much needed R&R.
