Thread: CU the end of elite crafting?

I'm starting to think that combat upgrade will be the end of many dedicated crafters in SWG. Many doctors and chefs have made it their profession to provide very high quality product. This effort requires constance vigalence of harvestable materials, forum auctions, a network of hunters, and overall a huge investment in resources. Many of us greatly enjoy this challenge in order to produce super quality material.

With the combat upgrade I think the need for top notch crafting doctors and chefs will suddenly disappear. Let me illustrate. My current enhancepacks range from about 875 to 950 strength. The lower strength packs are easy to make, and can readily be made by a non-dedicated crafter. The higher strengthrequire the finest ingredients obtained from careful planning, hording, and now investment in resource deeds.

Lets say that these 875 or 950 power packs translate to 8.75% or 9.5% buff after CU ( or 17.5% and 19% on a 20% basis). Considering your health bar is max 3000 pts, thats a range of 262-285 points - a whopping difference of 32 points.Perhaps there are a few people who care about such a slight difference, but they will be the minority. The same thing for stims. There has always been some PVPers who will pay for super high stims (like Janta stims), but most people could care less if their B-stims are 430 vs. 450 strength. So much for all of our hard work and our stacks of super organic resources. Say goodbyeto the challenge of doc crafting.

Perhaps its time to go weaponsmith or armorsmith?

Well I will just say this, and I only read about the first line or 2 before I hit reply.

What is considered "High End Crafting" now.....will still be considered as much in the new system. Just because the numbers may drop doesn't mean the product will be any less of a "High End" Item.

Not to mentian Crafting for Doc's will be handed over to BE's....so we won't have anything to crafting anyways.

Well, I did read the whole thing, and I think MyT's post still stands.

Just because the numbers change does not make the new meds any less elite than before. Here's an analogy... the 70's saw gas prices skyrocket, while the economy tanked. The 1979 z-28 was a sad litte car compared to the 68-73 camaros, but it was still the strongest muscle car around for it's time.

Don't let numbers sway you. Even with the new buff/med system, there will still be a market for slightly stronger/slightly higher priced meds.

I'd agree to some extent with the ideas, but we need to consider that there really are two groups of players (well more then that really, but let's go for broad generalizations).

Casual players are the ones who don't care if buffs are 8.5% or 9%. They will be the ones who will buy the cheapest, most available buffs, stims, etc.

Hardcore PvP/PvE players want the top quality of everything. These are the people who would currently want the 940 power buff pack instead of the 939, the 450 stim B over the 430, the 70% base armor over the 69%, the 410 max damage T21 vs. the 408. Sure, the numbers might seem to be insignificantly different, but there are a large number of players who want the BEST products available, and will still pay a premium for it.

Doctor is no different then any other crafting profession in this aspect. And the hard core players are not as small a minority as one would imagine - most of my sales from Doc, and from Weaponsmithing when I was doing that as well, came from custom orders with very specific wants and needs.

There will certainly still be a market for top-quailtiy products.

It's my opinion that ppl will still buy the 200-300 strength buffs, depending on how well they will work with the new skills.

I've been a doc since October 2003 and buffs were applied back then at their marked strength plus the droid multiplier. There was no food or clothes available to improve buffs, so you got a max 1100 buff in most cases. Players paid for those buffs back then and they'll continue to pay for them after the CU.

Face it, the combat professions apparently got an HMO, so now we are pushed out of the market.

Wanna form a union??

Here's my take on that. Most combat templates included at least the very first box of novice medic so they could use stims. Now they can drop that and use the new stims created my medic/be crafters.

Nobody but docs/medics/combat medics will be able to heal wounds, which I think will become much more important, now that there will only be an H rather than a HAM bar(s).

To me, it fits RL pretty closely. No doctors make their own medicine now... they cound on the Abbotts and Pfizers now. Also, doctors have offices/hospitals that they work out of. Combat medics, as one would find in the army, are the ones out in the field risking themselves, but healing soldiers on the field. To me, the CU lines up the professions quite nicely.

The people who make the drugs are doctors too.

Unless they nerf further the damage that can be done in combat, 32 extra points will mean nothing...high end meds will be much less important. Even the hard core PvPers would be unmoved by a 32 point difference.

True, but they're not in a hospital/office healing people as well. In modern life, it's one or the other.

Yeah, which is why some docs are buffers and healers, and some of us are dedicated crafters...just like RL
