Thread: Is herbivore meat really worth it?
Obviously, it takes a lot of extra effort to harvest meat than it does any other resource that you can plop a harvester on. As that's the case, the going price for meat is much higher than any other resource. Just yesterday, I bought some greens that had OQ and PE well over 900 for 2.8 cpu while I sold someone some herbivore meat that I had that had OQ and PE somewhere over 600 for 12 cpu.
Honestly, do you really find the meat worth it? I realize that, with the meat, you can make advanced chemical release duration mechanisms, but, is doing so worth the trouble or cost?
In my experience, using an advanced chem doesn't add all that much power over a normal one - certainly not like the difference between using anadvanced liquid suspension versus a normal one.
I realize that you're never going to have the absolute "best of the best" items if you don't use herbivore meat, but how many of you out there still go through the trouble or pay the costs to do so?
I think so, and here is an example:
Making a Stim B with ABEC and ALS and regular CRDM I get a base heal of around 300.
Add a ACRDM and I can get base heals above 350 on a StimB. Im a Combat Medic, which means I dont get as much experimentation on the Medic stuff as you Docs, so im sure a master Doc could easily get that to 400's.
I have been doing experiments with Stim B's, trying to find the best value / resource.
I've actually found that for the most part, just using Advanced Liquid Suspensions and normal BECs, and CRMs produces Stims that are powerfull enough for most needs. Lets fact it, most people are as happy with a 30 charge, 330 power stim as they are with a 35 charge 385 power stim.
I'll be saving that Herb Meat for my enhancements kits, and a few wound kits.
Okay, let me phrase it this way. I know that you can gain about 30-40 points of power on a stim by using an advanced CRDM. FOr instance, I can usually make stims that top the 350 power mark with a normal CRDM and I can make stims that reach mid 380 with advanced CRDM's. But, can you sell the more powerful ones for a higher price to make it worthwhile.
For example, here's are my costs for a stim B:
- 18 Units of Lokian Wild Wheat @4 cpu = 72
- 18 Units of Tatooinian Fiberplast @3 cpu = 54
- 8 Units of Organic @3 cpu = 24
- 8 Units of Chemical @3 cpu = 24
- 6 Units of Talusian Water Vapor@3 cpu= 18
- 6 Units of Dantooine Berry Fruit @3 cpu = 18
- 12 Units of Organic @3 cpu = 36
- 12 Units of Inorganic @3 cpu = 36
Total Cost =282 credits.
With this layout, I can make a stim that heals for 350 or so and has about 35 charges. I can then turn around and sell it for 900 credits, making a 319% profit.
So, if I use herbivore meat, instead, I end up with this:
- 18 Units of Lokian Wild Wheat @4 cpu = 72
- 18 Units of Tatooinian Fiberplast @3 cpu = 54
- 16Units ofHerbivore Meat@12 cpu = 192
- 8 Units ofClass 4 Liquid Petro Fuel@4 cpu = 32
- 6 Units of Talusian Water Vapor@3 cpu= 18
- 6 Units of Dantooine Berry Fruit @3 cpu = 18
- 12 Units of Organic @3 cpu = 36
- 12 Units of Inorganic @3 cpu = 36
Total Cost = 458 credits.
In order to make the same profit margin as earlier, I'd have to sell this stim for 1461 credits.
Honestly, give the choice between to stims with about 30 points difference in power, do you think it's worth 561 credits?
Maybe it's just me and my master doctor healing powers that are throwing everything off, but I just don't think it's worth it.

I go with you on this one. That's exactly what I've been doing.
Saving mine for health and action medpacks, and I'm still loosing profit margin, but not as much.
Let's say you can get it for 10c, adding 180c to the final product cost. Let'ssay it adds 30 power to the final product. On a stim b with 34 uses I would charge an extra 99c retail/84c vendor for that stim.
Now a medpack b with 34 charges and an extra 30 power I would charge an extra 235c retail/199c vendor. Barely worth it, but still worth it.
I won't be using it in stims. Most people are happy with high 300's.

Very nice breakdown -- and that is the big question. 500-600 credits for 30 points of power? (Class 4 goes for more than 4cr per unit on our server -- especially when it's extinct) That'sroughly 20 credits per point of power! If people pricedstims at that, then a 300 power stim wound be 6k.
I personally would not pay an additional40%of the cost of a stim for an additional 10% in power.
Maniweh.
.. I will add to that, however, that many people have been spoiled by high-power stims. The best stims on Corbantis at the moment are around 400/40 using old stockpiled resources that are now extinct. -- I'vetried to sell 305/35 stims and occasionally people ask for power over 350 because that's what "they're used to".
But if docs are pricing the +50 power stims accordingly, then I'dguess thatbuyerswill soon realize that it's not worth an additional 40%. (IMHO)
