Thread: Which critters drop the largest QUANTITY of avian meat?
Not too concerned about quality ATM, just looking for large quantities for my buff bot.
He's been a wee bit too successfull, and I'm running very very low on avian meat. Looking for some critters I can farm for avian meat along with the help of a friendly neighborhood ranger or two.
Perleks on Lok are decent and I think Reptilian Fliers on Dathomir are a bit better. Midnight Vir Vurs on Rori aren't bad, either, but they can be a pain to find. I think there's a big bird on Yavin 4, too, but I seldom hunt there, so I'm not really sure.
If you're looking to gather lots of avian meat, I guess I'd suggest the Reptilian Fliers on Dathomir. You can get missions for them and they seem to spawn all over the place. Plus, they drop a nice amount and aren't that hard to kill.
As usual, thanks Bulbados.
It's always convenient when the good quality avian meat happens to be on the same planet with the large quantity drops. If only we had something similar to pickets (70 on average herb meat is what I gt from them per harvest)
Reptillian Flyers on Dath are probably the best I've seen. They are easy to kill with medium level combat skills (I have only 4 boxes in the TKA line) and they usually spawn 8-12 critters per lair. The toughest flyer drops meat in the 30's, the medium flyer drops in the 20's, and the low end flyer drops in the teens. Taking just 2 missions the other night, i ended up with 500 units. After 2 nights of harvesting, I had 4k.
A few months ago when Lok had godly avian, I managed to gather about 40k of the stuff, but i'm finally running low on it
I'm happy to settle for just getting a nice large quantity of avian meat for my buff bot, as I'd rather lower prices for weaker buffs on his entry fee than stop providing his services.
Do rangers harvest more meat per harvest or is it pretty much the same regardless your skill level?

The amount that you harvest per creature is based upon your hunting skill. Therefore, someone with Hunting 4 will harvest more, per creature, than someone with only novice scout. Likewise, a Master Ranger (which includes additional hunting skill boxes) will harvest more than anyone else.
Also, you harvest less when you're grouped with others. This usually offsets because of the number of people that can harvest. For example, if you normally pull 20 units off a bantha, when grouped, you might only pull 12 units. However, your partner can also pull 12 units, meaning that you now managed to pull more meat off the creature than you normally would. The more people, the more you can harvest.
However, here's a quick caveat. If you're grouped with your pet, you get the reduced harvest rate but, obviously, your pet can't harvest, so you're really just shooting yourself in the foot. If you're hunting to gather resources, either don't use a pet or, if you do, don't group with your pet. You can use your pet to kill things but, as long as you're not actually grouped, you won't take the hit to the amount you can harvest.

Just a guess, but i'd say its a sarcastic term to refer to his doctor character, since buffing is mostly what they are good for in most people's eyes.

"Buff bot" generally refers to a second character on the same server (i.e. a second account) maintained specificially to buff you and your friends, and perhaps to make money. Buff bots are especially common in Dark Age of Camelot. Those who like to play solo often keep a second account for buffing themselves.
Unless they were changed in the last patch, Chokus on Yavin 4 drop decent amounts of avian meat, and you can get missions for them within 700m of the outposts.
Devil Gulginaws on Talus are excellent (though you need a ranger to find them) -- I've pulled well over 1k meat from a single lair of those.
Also, Peko Pekos on Naboo are reasonably big, although I can't recall there being good enough avian meat on Naboo on my server for me to bother killing any.
Hope that helps.
