Thread: Buff Cheaters Doctors Beware

Ok I am sure this has come up before but I just wanted to reemphasize that all doctors should have their inventory open and be monitoring their credits while buffing. There has been a rise in people falsely bank tipping for buffs. Don't let these thieves get away with it. If you catch one make sure you give a nice shout to the general public and /tt any other doctors buffing around you.

For anyone who does not know what I am talking about, it is possible for someone to create a gmail that looks just like a bank tip notification. They really aren't sending you any money.

I've gone one step further. I don't accept bank tips at all. It's in my bio, my reply macro, /AFK message and in my /say macro. If someone has to bank tip me, they need permission in advance. Because of these scammers I hardly ever buff anymore.

Same goes for me. I don't buff for money much either, but when I do, my macro says:

"/ttJaysen's Enhance Dwill hit you for 2356 per attribute, lasts 3 hours and 45 minutes, and I charge 9500cr. This is a 110 rated droid, I have +25 wound treatment, and I'm using Bivoli. Please make sure you have under 250 Battle Fatigue, and do not bank tip me unless you ask first."

Works quite well. The droid, wound treatment and bivoli part save me answering the same questions every time I buff someone.

Bank tip scammers are the worst, but I did get a pretty good laugh at a guy the other night who didnt even know how to scam right. I was buffing outside of Coronet and this Wookie asks me how much and if I would buff him. I finished the buff and he gave me the customary bow and thanks then I hear an mail come in as he runs off. I open the mail and it is from him and all the message said was buffs! He didnt even know to take the time to type out the simulated message. I laughed so hard I just let him go.

After reading about this on the forums, I decided to try a small experiment.

I had a friend of mine tip me a small amount, then send me a faked e-mail containing the exact same subject and body text.

The only discernable difference that I could see right away, was that the official e-mail generated by the system contained both the First and Last name of my friend, while the personal e-mail contained only the first name.

To my knowledge, there is no way to change your name once your character is created, and as far as I know, you cannot affect the "From" field of e-mails.

So, if you get an e-mail that says it's from "joe schmoe", it's probably good, while that e-mail that looks official from "joe", is likely fake.

The only exception to this as I see it, is if the person in question doesn't have a last name, in which case, currently, there's no real way to discern by looking at the e-mail alone.

Hope this helps some.

I seen this issue reported quite a few times in this forum. Having just made Master Doctor a couple of weeks ago I had not yet experienced this however last night while I was buffing I was certain it happened to me.

It's so annoying as it's such a simple fix. Dev's should provide a Bank statement, simple as that. A record (doesn't have to last more than 1 week) of all transactions on your bank account. I mean come on, what kind of bank would you join where you couldn't obtain a record of your transactions. Any credits received are individually listed, by either mission or from the person sending the money. You can then double check this using, say, /bankstatement to bring up a window against your emails.

I think the solution is even more obvious, as bank tipping used to work just fine before publish 6, when you would get a system message that somebody is bank-tipping. Impossible to forge a system message, and I don't understand why this changed in the first place. But that's what has caused the current problem.

All they would really have to do is make the emails come from the Bank. The body would say Joe Schmoe has bank tipped you #### credits. Then all you would really have to look out for is someone named BANK and not accept any bank tips from him

I absolutely do not understand WHY they changed it.

What positive thing came from them changing the format of the bank tip email?

To my knowledge from reading various threads the really easy answer is nothing, they seem to have spawned a scam out of no where.

this would work, but ATLEAST half of the people I see running around coronet/people I buff only have a first name. I don't know if this is unique to my server.

LMFAO.....the best thing is he probably thought he really tricked you, and started bragging to his buddies.

What I don't understand, is why they don't just impliment a quick fix. Like prefacing the sender's name in your email with something.. How hard would that be?!

If they can take the time to put mini Krayts in the starports, I don't think it would be difficult at all to just put a {verified} in front of the sender of an email on bank tips..

Grrrrr

Yeha, refusing bank tips is tough, how do you do it?

Scenerio, #1

"How much for a buff?"

"10k"

Bank tip email comes in before youcan explain you dont take em.

"I tipped you"

"I don't take bank tips"

"Well tip me back 10k"

Now what?

Scenerio, #2

"How much for a buff?"

"10k and no bank tips please"

Bank tip email comes in anyway.

"I tipped you"

"I don't take bank tips, I said that already"

"OH I didnt see it (OR) "OH I tipped you at the same exact time I saw your message, sorry"

"Well sorry I said I don't take bank tips"

"Well tip me back 10k"

Now what?
