Thread: charging for buffs
I am a doctor. Last night a friend of mine got buffed for free in the cantina, and I was really disappointed for the dancer or musician that did it. YOU GUYS NEED TO CHARGE. As a master doc, I charge 5K for buffing all 6 stats, 1K for just health or action. Yes, it takes resources, however it takes less than 100 resources to completely buff someone, so it probably costs me 500 credits or so. And it only takes a couple of minutes to do a full buff.
I think you are completely justified for charging 2 to 3K for a mind or focus/willpower buff. Why? Because your buffs are even more necessary than health/action buffs due to the fact that there are NO STIMS FOR THE MIND. Mind is what gets a lot of the combat types I play with...their tiny little minds get all used up and they drop like flies.
PLEASE CHARGE, and not cheaply, for your buffs. This will be an awesome reward for all the work you've done, and it takes the focus off of needing tips. Giving buffs will completely set you apart from AFKers and may start to make the combat types realize how important you are. But, that respect will not come (IMHO) if you do this for free or don't charge enough for it.
I am not a dancer or musician. But of course i need you guys to heal the mind. I hope you guys charge for the buffs because it seems to me that it is probably harder for you folks to earn a credit than just about any other profession....it would be nice to see you all come up with something kind of standard amongst yourselfs so I would have an idea how many credits to have before i go begging for a buff.thx![]()
It was about that time I realized that Twi'lek dancer was 3 stories high, and a monster from the paeloithic (sp?) era...but I digress...
Anyways, to answer your question...what do you think is a fair price? I see many doctors charging anywhere from 500c to 2500c. The difference between us and them, is they need resources to make those buffs, all we need is time. And as much as this seems like a cop-out non-answer, I think most entertainers will be grateful for any creds you send their way (unless we're talking about the 5c or 20c tips I've recieved in the past...and if that's the case, keep your money....it's less insulting.)
Not to mention (I haven't been on since the patch...) but I don't think the targeted buffs have been implemented for us yet. Which means you may sit there and tip us 2k (which is appreciated...) will 10 other people soak up the buffs for free. Please correct me if I'm wrong, and targeted buffs did make it into this patch. But until then, this is pretty much a moot point, IMHO.

Well...then...that changes things greatly...well...mildly...ok not much at all...(C:
I still think we'd be fools to try and ask the same amount as docs get for their buffs, simply because we don't need resources for ours. (That, and I get single tips that large most nights...so maybe I'm not the one to quibble about prices...) (C:

I thought the buffs where automatic? They just have to watch to get the buffs? I predict alot of AFK entertainers in places like Lok and Dathomir which people watch from time to time before they go out hunting... I predict less serious entertainers and a whole less fun... but im just an pessimist.
When I get asked for prices (I haven't yet, been preparing), my plan is to charge 1k. Of course, I can only do one person at a time, and it's going to take 5-10 minutes, so if you're in a hurry and want to pay a premium, I guess I can't stop you from trying to outbid the other guy...
I think that's a decent balance between the effect the customer gets and the effort I'm putting in (or have put in getting the levels).
Personally,I think that having the buffs advertised in the patch update will bring in a bunch of customers, especially combat medics. And since the person receiving the buff has to be either targeted or in the performer's group, it'd be hard (though sadly not impossible) to have an afk buff-bot. Finally something that gives some meaning to progressing through the Musician levels.

Nope, the buffs are definitely not automatic. To confer the quicker, more efficient "targeted" buff, the Musician has to target the audience member with a mouse-clickand type /setperform. AFK'ers will have a hard time doing that.To confer the "passive" buff, the target must now be part of your group and must /listen. So again, the lone AFK'er in Lok or Endor won't be able to buff; he or she must be there to invite the audience member into the group.
Of course, a group with one "live" leader and five AFK'ers can still confer the "passive" buff so long as the live leader invites audience members in and out, but the new buff procedure does make AFK'ing somewhat less attractive nontheless. Especially if you want to get tipped for it.
