Thread: Making buffs vs buying them

Sup all, I am one skill box away from master doc (am currently chasing people down begging them to let me train them, lol)and needed some advice from you vets out there. I have about 60k credits and two factories. Simply making the advanced subcomponents for the enhancement packs takes a lot of resources and time, not to mention the complete enhance pack. Should I save up money to buy a set of buff packs, or save up to buy resources to make buff packs to get me going?

My advice is:

1. buy some buff packs then buff for cash.

2. Wait for a good avian to spawn and then hunt it as much as you can. While waiting for good avian keep buy packs and buffing for cash. Also drop some harvs on any good spawn of the resouces you will need to make the buffs (tat fiber, lok wheat, etc).

3. Once the good spawn comes and you have the avian in your pocket then start crafting for your self.

4. If after you craft for yourself and you like it then craft for others as you build up your resouces.

The basic idea is that you dont start crafting until you have a cheap stash of good avian.

I used to make my own buff packs, but don't have the time anymore. I run an active, fairly large guild so I usually buy my buffs.

But overall it is a LOT more cost effective to make your own. Especially if you have your own supplies of good avian meat.

making your own is for the dedicated and patient person. takes many months of waiting to get good spawns of everything that is needed. only alternative is a large budget early on to buy the stuff instead of waiting.

My plan when I mastered Doctor was to buy some buff packs to get me started, then make my own. I even had lots of resources to do so. It's close to a year later and I still don't craft my own buff packs ....it's so much easier to buy them. No worries about getting those extra experimentation points, no worries about when hard to find resources will spawn for those advanced components......no worries about sitting around, by myself, trying to craft the perfect schematic .....etc,....etc....

My suggestion is to find out who's making the best buffs on your server - and approach him/her and strike a deal. Perhaps they'd let you test out some buff packs at a reduced price in hopes that you'll be a long time customer. I know I spend at least a million credits a week on buff packs and I don't play much.

Enjoy and good luck

If you are already making the components I would suggest that you make them into Stims, if you put them on a vendor in a player city odds are you will sell out in a few days and there is a pretty good profit in them. I try to do a run of stims every few months, but I buy my buffs... the real money seems to be in loot.

Buff your guildmates and hunting partners and loot hunt; one good drop can set you up for a long time... and if you are buffing your partners often then odds are they won't complain a whole lot when you ask for a decent drop or two every few sessions.

I make my buffpacks for my own use and for freebie-buffing friends for hunts and adventuring. I buy buffpacks for rarepublic buffing and for my own use if I need max power and duration for whatever reason. Though now with Scylla's recent spawn of OQ999/PE749 avian, I should hit enough power and duration to start selling my own. Hoard, hoard, hoard...

Good avian meat is squat with out good reactive gas.

No good reactive gas has spawned since I started playing and I had to buy some.

Keep your eyes open for the reactive gas too.

So true. When I first started my vendor I gave away about 30 free sets. Whats funny is when you go up to buffing Doctors and ask them "Would you like a FREE set of <insert company name> Buff packs at <insert power and duration>" and they respond "no" Only happened to me once but I thought it was hilarious that someone would turn down 100k worth of free stuff.

I recommend never buying buff packs, start from the ground and work your way up...when I started I was buffing only 1.6k and found as master swordsman/master doc I could get by with buffs that low and many people were happy to pay me 5-6k for it as well. In time I progressed and now I am buffing 2500, I guess my point is that I've never bought a buff nor have I ever bought a buffpack and that first time I buffed 2500 with all resources I've harvested and gathered myself, it was a very rewarding experience to me. (I was 12 point before I made 2500 buffs btw) it takes a long time to gather the resources, but well worth it in the long run. I can now buff folks for insanely low prices, for me there is no competition.

Other 12 point docs buy resources....they can't even compete with me since I harvest it all myself. There is only so much you can do in this game before you've reached the top, take the long road, no shortcuts, it is more rewarding.

best profit margin......... make your own buffs and buff people

however getting to "make your own buffs" takes a long time to yield good results. most of the "buy buffs and buff for cash" ideas are the way to start, I think. i havent bought a buffpack in almost 3 months... and i started my buff crafting business 6+ months ago
