Thread: doctor = I win button?
But...I find that I really hate it. Last night, fighting voritor lizards on dant, level 53 mobs. I have 0001 carbineer. 3 of them attack me at a time, I got up, went to the bathroom, got a drink, comeback they're all dead, cure my poison and do some more. Like, being a doctor means I am no longer required to engage the game. I do not have to actively participate in combat, I just win. Over and over. What can challenge me? SBD's? Is that it?
Also, why can doctors use the best stims? They have the least use for them. I can't remember the last time I used stim.
I don't know, honestly it seems things aren't as fun anymore.

Ok, I mastered doc dreaming of the coolness of all the heals/buffs/cures etc...

You choose to not make it fun... You don't have to be buffed, you don't have to carry Stim-C's and other state cures. This game is what you make of it - and if you make it boring for yourself then you can't blame your profession.
I'm Master Carbineer and Master Doc and I have a great time!

Ok but if you don't use your buffs, high end stims and state cures, why are you a doctor?
I didn't say I didn't use them - but I choose to use them selectively. For example, with no buffs and just wearing my Cermonial Armour I can only do 3 Carbine specials before I have to heal my action and health (due to stupidly high HAM costs)... and this is just against Quenkers. This makes fighting Quenkers somewhat challenging and exciting too cos I could die at any moment if I don't concentrate.
Obviously with buffs then this issue no longer exists - and thus it is boring.... My point is I can make even simple hunts into a life or death struggle by selectively choosing what elements of Doc I apply to myself.
Besides, a Doctor's role is to help other people - not just myself - and that's why I'm a Doctor.

If the only way to bring challenge back is to forgo using many of my doctor skills/abilities/items, then it would seem doctor is simply a waste of skill points. Not that the game does not need doctors, we need people to craft higher end medicines and for times when the challenge level of an adventure merits buffs. But I don't think doctor fits my style of play, it makes it boring.

Ok, let me put it another way. Why am I spending the 100+ skill points for master doctor when novice medic provides me with heal damage and wounds abilities.
That's a completely different question. Buffs + armor = "I win" in PvE and you can take advantage of both without armor.
Master doctor does cost 140 skill points and you are correct that much (possibly most) of the value from damage healing and wound healng comes from the novice medic box. So what is the extra 125 skill points worth?
- Buff on demand
- Quicker wound healing (faster times and you can heal 400 wounds on a stat in a single heal)
- Bigger, fasterdamage heals (no better than master medic, but better than novice medic)
- Revive
- Poison and disease cures (and state cures)
- Two viable ways to make money (buffing and crafting)
Now, the first three are merely conveniences. They speed up gameplay, but admittedly aren't essential. Revive makes docs a vital PvE group support profession. Poison and disease cures make docs a vital PvP support profession. If you don't play in groups or don't PvP, then these are admittedly of limited value.
Personally, I think there is 140 skill points of value in master doctor, but I can see plenty of situations where dabbling in medic or getting TKA meditation 4 or additional defense stacking would be more valuable to many people.

If it's boring... and you're only interested in what you can do for yourself and not helping others... drop it and do something else![]()
I started the game off as a Doc.... left it behind around Christmas thanks to the Christmas Holos... got TKM now so I can heal wounds, poison and disease, I pay for buffs... you adapt![]()

Ok now try the same without armor, we'll see if you can go afk again with 0 0 0 1 carbineer...
Doc alone won't get you anywhere without armor and a combat profession.

Yes the buff nerf proponents don't realize something.
It's the armor, not the buffs. Buffs do allow you to use uber armor.
But if you don't have the uber armor you can still die easily using buffs. It's the armor.
Honestly, unarmored combat isn't realistic, simply being armored makes you ap1, which take 50% off the damage dealt to you.

I'll take the pepsi challenge. I'll go get a suit of 25% mabari and see whats the diff between high end armor and low end.

No the challenge os to go unarmored also. Do both tests
