Thread: Doc Bag balanced idea (including negative aspect)

I have always wanted a Doctor bag to help with inventory as I do believe Docs have more inventory problems then most other professions.

The other day I was reading in the Creature Handler discussion about problems with overpowering the CHers as a combination of other combat types. In other words if you take out a creature then that is your weapon. But a CHer can still equip a weapon and fight with that so they are using 2 combat skills at the same time. So what does this have to do with Doc, Please bear with me.

The thought was that a Creature Handler could have some sort of creature control device that they would have to equip. This would prevent them from pulling out that T21 rifle at the same time. Please remember that this was just a thought in the forum, nothing more.

Well I have to wonder if maybe that is actually a very positive idea in terms of Doctors as well. Maybe for all medical use it would take having a medical bag or tool equiped (as in "held in your hand"). I think this would have some good aspects and some bad aspects to balance out and some interrelationships that would effect game play.

One important thing is that it seems most combat characters take a little medic so they can heal themselves. If they had to drop their weapon, equip a medicial item, and then have a wait time for changing what is in your hand, then the combat types might opt out of healing themselves as it would really slow them down in terms of damage. The hits they take while healing and not fighting might not make it worth while if they are only doing small heals. So this could really help doctors and combat medics by increasing the demand for us in the field.

I think an additional positive for both doctors and combat medics is that if it was a medical bag that was equipped that it could have some additional storage space as that is what we need anyway.

I know there are other factors that are large hurdles for such a change to happen like artwork, but I thought I would throw out the idea. And please remember changes should have a balancing effect and work well with the interrelationships of other professions.

heh, that's actually sounds like a really great idea. They'll never do it, but a doc can dream....a doc can dream...

Could be cool... one of the buffs kinda looks like a satchel with a cross on it if i remember correctly... would be cool like the combat medics of ww2 etc.

I do like this idea and it makes a lot of sense, the only problem I can see with it is this - if you have 50 objects in your inventory and 12 objects in the bag, if you get attacked and actually need to defend yourself, you can't unequip the back to equip a weapon, you're stuck there with your bag in your hand unable to fight back unless you frantically start destroying objects in your inventory to be able to get your gun out.

The CH/Weapon analogy is a bit off, since CH is an entire profession that only enables you to use Creatures, there are no weapon certifications in there, so if you want to be able to use creatures and a rifle you need both qualifications.

I do like the idea of having to unequip a weapon to be able to heal though, with the current delay, that makes a lot of sense, but most weapons can be held in one hand, so where's the problem with using your off hand to use the stimpack ?

This would be really neat. I'd love to have a bag/briefcase type thing that I could keep all my meds in and have equiped to use. This would avoid them having to implement the "search for meds in backpack" thing, as they could simply look for meds in the main inventory or this specific bag.

once again, try being a DE and some of the other more complex proffesions. It would not be fair to have just a doc bag.

I made this same suggestion about a month or two ago. Sorry, I forgot what the thread was titled. There was the "buff" medical bag and the "heal" medical bag. Either looted from missions Docs would do or a Tailor had to make them. Different colors, etc ... I gave up following the thread.

Well, i like the idea as far as DOCTOR idea goes, but for stims it seems a bit too much, would too much disrupt flow of combat, i mean, medics in WWII has rifles just like everyone else.

okay ya know how we have stim bots now? We should have DOC BOTS and boom we can put ANYTHING a doc can use into it. If you trade it to anyone else, it doesn't work unless they are a MASTER doc (good reason to get master) or just make it by med use etc..

Simple solution, goes with how the game already is built and doesn't do anything unfair.

I dunno, DE's don't need to carry everything with them, if a Doc wants to be able to do his job well he needs to carry the following;

  1. All 6 Buff packs + Crates thereof - 12 items

  2. All 6 Wound packs + crates thereof - 12 items

  3. Fire blanket + crate - 2 items

  4. Cure poison, Cure Disease + crates - 4 items

  5. Stimpacks, couple out + crate - 3 items

  6. Blind, Dizzy, Intimidated and Stunned stimpacks, at least 1 out, crates of each - 8 items

  7. The new area poison and disease cures, 1 out, 1 crate of each - 4 items

  8. The new poison/disease resistance enhancements, 1 out, 1 crate of each - 4 items

  9. BE Bivoli/Brandy/Ahrisa, 1 out, 1 crate of each-6 items

  10. Resus kits, 1 out, 1 crate - 2 items

  11. BE Clothes, 1 or 2 items

I make that 55 items, an entire backpack full and then some, before I've even started thinking about armour and weapons, or surveying, or scouting for resources or any food meant for combat, or God forbid, anything resembling loot. Certainly the crafting classes need lots of resources annd crates lying around, but they don't actually need to carry it WITH them when they go out adventuring, they can leave the bulk of them at home and pick stuff up when they're crafting - which is what I usually do.

We have to lug around more crap than any other profession I'll wager, that's why we need this bag, hell, if cargo pockets were equippable that would do it, an extra 20 inventory would be ideal, but they're not so we're stuck.

Another solution would be crafted items that combine everything into one.

An example would be a "buff container". You take your buffpacks, craft a special container for them, all 6 go in, and you have 1 item in inventory, rather than the 6 before. The drawbacks to this would be, of course, carrying around some extras (or a crate of them, ready to use). A possible bonus to this would be buffing someone with all 6 stats in 1 hit.

I agree though, it's been ages since I've been out of my backpack, and it really just doesn't look good wearing a backless dress with a backpack on to formal events

ummmmmmmmm yeah a DE does lol if you want to craft droids on the fly, which most cases you need to.

Storage modules, bomb modules, the various frames. Droid brains, ADVANCED droid brain, chassis, 9384902384 other parts.. bomb parts, scout parts, medical chip, vendor chip. I could go on.. and on.. and on. Not to mention you may want a few crates of parts to make some modules on the fly if your low on factory made modules. Oh yeah and then there is all the armor modules, the composite segments that go into those..etc..

DE is hell. A LIVING AND BREATHING HELL lol
