Thread: Survey skill for the Doc (and Combat Medic) crafting line?

Hello

About a year ago there were several ideas about how medical professions could avoid having to invest 15+ points into artisan only to survey for the resources they need for their crafting. One idea was to add the survey skill at some point in the medical crafting lines. Has this idea died meanwhile or could we expect some changes in the future?

I think if this were to happen then what would keep everyone from getting a first-aid skill added to thier line? I used to grouse about not being able to do many more things in the game but then I purchased a second account and all is right with the world.

The game should be playable with only one account.

This is a key skill with artisans, just like basic healing is a key skill withmedics.

Yet, they eventually gave in and now people can use Stim-A's without any medical skill whatsoever.

So I think that people should be able to survey, even at 32m rangeand only 1 or 2 units per sample, so doc's don't also have to be artisans.

This has been talked about for oooh about a year or more.

The two things docs will not get are servey and hunt skills. If you want those skills you will have to use the skill points to get them.

My advice is just pay someone to give you a waypoint. Get to know a nice resouce vendor and tip them 50k or something fora good waypoint for a resouce you want.

Lets just say you got your wish and can not servey 32m. Man, let me tell you that you will spend hours serveying. That time could be better spent doing other things.

The key to doing well in this game is not trying to do everything yourself. Get to know folks who can do things better than you can and pay them or trade favors. For example, I have a resouce vendor friend. When I dont have my lots being used for med resouces I harvest what ever he asks me to harvest. He pays me some low ball amount like 1-2 cpu just to cover my costs. Then when a med resouce pops up he gives me a waypoint so I can harvest the resouce and he puts some of his harvs on it for me. We both win.

Look for ways to make Win-Win relationships like this and you will not need to do everything yourself and will meet a alot more great people.

Marrow1 is right. Trying to survey anything on the 32m range is just going to take forever unless you get lucky.

I don't think that Doctors will ever get survey or hunting skills because that would take away from the two professions that do have them. I can see how it would help a lot, but I think if such a thing were to happen then the Artisan community would be in uproar. (They're allready not too happy about non-Artisans being able to use harvestors).

How about making this a skill at novice Doc or Novice CM... or somewhere in one of the trees?

As someone that was a strong proponent of obtaining some form of survey for the medical professions, I have since come around to the other side of the issue.

If you want the ability to survey, then you must spend the skillpoints in artisan. It's just that simple.

Not saying I would be averse to a limited charge survey tool useable by anyone(but crafted by an Artisan, perhaps Master). But the wholesale copying over of the survey ability into one of the Medical Professions isn't something that should ever happen.

Plus interdependency is what interaction in an MMORPG is all about..

Depend on your artisans.. they need the love too..

Master Weaponsmith /w Artisan 4032 - 111 pts (allows good survey range, vendor). This leaves enough for the MWS to hold an elite combat profession, medic 0040, scout 1000 for another 138 pts. Total 249 pts.

Master Doctor /w Artisan 0032 - 169 pts (allows good survey range and 1 vendor). This leaves not enough for the MD to hold a single elite combat profession and scout 1000 at the same time.

These difference in skill points is one of the major problems doctors face. We ask for some form a basic survey skill, the response from the other crafting profession spend the points for the skill.

The other crafting professions have a large difference in skill point requirements than Doctors and survey forms part of there initally skillset. And they can still hold medic/scout plus an elite profession where as a Doctor cannot. This is even worst if your a Master Combat Medic and to a lesser degree a Master Bio Engineer.

All I want is a limited use survey tool crafted by a Master Artisan were the range/changes can be experimented on and only usage by either a Master Doctor, Master Combat Medic or Master Bio Engineer.

I really don't think we should be asking to get skills from other professions. Where does it stop? At survey? At a vendor? This game is designed around interdependence. If you want to find your own resources, then set aside the 15 skill points. It takes minimal interaction to get your own resources, even without artisan.

sorry but we all have something we would like from another profession but this game is based on relying on other professions in order to accomplish everything. There is quite a lot in this game you can do by yourself but there are certain things that you will need the services of another profession to do.

How would you feel if buffs could be self administered and sold in setsby an NPC? Why should your skills be more valuable then another profs?

As it stands today, you need to either invest the points required or get help from someone else.

I'm of mixed opinions about this. Docs and CMs (and Medics) are the only crafting profession that need surveying skills but don't have them. But then if we get surveying, what is to stop Scouts from getting to heal or Marksmen getting dancing skills. It won't happen.

But I still feel that we need at least something...even if it is the removal of bloody medical forage. It was a great skill back in Beta when my Stim As and Wound As needed just 3 organics, but unfortunately those days are gone, and the Devs are unwilling to removea totally worthless piece of code in the game. /shrug.
