Thread: DOCTORS :: DO NOT ACCEPT BANK TIPS (SCAMMING)

Thats right friends. . . . I was getting scammed several times a day by fake bank tips while selling buffs. It got to where I had to view what my bank savings amount was to verify if the player truely sent the tip or sent an email that resembled a bank tip system notification. People, this is happening all too often. I now refuse any offers made to bank tip me. . . . If I'm bank tipped I tell them it's their fault for not reading my advertisement and instructions.

Yes I would double check, write down my account savings total and watch for the email and account balance increase. Sometimes it was just lag but all too often I'd never get the tip . . . . .

I no longer buff for cash, cba anymore and am not willing to have any scam attemps made on me, but if I was I would sit near a bank terminal and ask people to /tip me cash and then dump it in the bank whilst the macro was running.

Hats off to SOE. Not many companies could take the best MMO on the market and fu*k it up completely, that takes real skill.

Is this the same scam that can be prevented by simply checking to make sure the name of the sender in the email is all lowercase letters? System messages are all lowercase names, messages sent by the player directly are capitalized just as their name is.

Last information I heard was after release 7 all e-mails are lower case. There was some way you could tell if they had a last name, its listed or not listed, I don't remember.

I have had to resort to the trusty notepad and record balances.

There's a thread stickied about this in the SMuggler Forum. In the last Publish they changed the Name capitalization so you can no longer effectively spot a phoney Bank Tip that way.

Call me crazy but I usually have such a big line around me I don't have the chance to see if people paid or not. Especially if they bank tip me. At the end of the day, I still made a huge profit.

For one thing, I don't know why the devs ever set up bank tip notifications so it appears to be an email from the User. The 'sender' field SHOULD have been something like 'Bank Transaction', and then in the message body it should say "XXX sent you YYYY creds." But it doesn't. Welcome to SWG, where mediocre hacks are the gold-standard.

Only way to currently spot a fake bank tip is if the sender has 2 names. A normal, in game email will only list the sender's christian or first name, ie. "zugat". A real bank tip will list both names, ie. "zugat urtan".

Why is cash forced to go into the bank in the first place? We don't have corpses to run to. I say convert bank to safety deposit only and fix this problem at the source. Everyone carry all the cash they have and end of story.

And why is it a running gag that a bug this big can go on for longer than a week? Are we so numb that we just accept the shortcomings?

Ah well, glad I'm almost done with this game

Im not 100% certain thats true...I thought I was ripped off yesterday and probably was as both names came up...but I received a 1k tip for healing someone earlier and its hardly worth it for that much, and I sort of knew the person. It would be good to get this checked.

Some people may have only 1 name, so it may be impossible to tell if it is fake or real.

Not impossible, just keep an eye on your bank amount.

To make it easier, withdraw all the extra credits, i.e. if you have 345,678 credits, take out the 678 so it's easier to read. Then you'll have 345,000 and it'll be easy to tell if 6l or whatever you charge is added or not.

Luckily, in Radiant I've never been scammed before - I just hope it stays that way.
