I just ground out master doc but can't even come close to affording a set of buff packs (108k credits and only ONE vendor on the whole planet selling-went to another planet but NO ONE was selling). Did you master docs supplement with mining or something until you could afford the packs, droid, clothes, bivoli? I see a lot of docs on other threads saying "I invested in a set of buff packs to get me started", my question: "How'd you get the money in the first place?" Only one out of every ten people tip.......
I spent 16 hours a day in the med center (that's right I have no life) for the last week to grind out this profession, and for the hundred or so people I've healed, I have 56k credits to my name. If I'd known, I'd have gotten some combat skills so I could run missions.
GAH!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, just disappointed.

Yeah starting as doc is tough. I would pick up a combat profession and just level up running missions, I made 1 million while getting master TKA just from missions a while back. Or get novice artisan and run survey missions until you can afford a set of buff packs, it's extremely not fun though.

I guess I shouldn't rush to be "uber" (hate that word). I think if I'd started out slowly I probably wouldn't mind, but I busted @$$ to get this Mastered ASAP for personal scheduling reasons and I feel like my momentum has been quashed. I hate that feeling. I think I'm just mad that people don't tip. Running into the hospital screaming "Medic!" and spamming repeatedly, "Can ne1 heal my woundz?????" and then not tipping drives me insane. On the other hand I have met two people who gave me a small house and some vasarian brandy for free instead of a tip, which I was more than happy to receive. Makes me feel appreciated.
Seeing these players with armor, laser rifles, droids, pets, etc I can't help but think, "You can't tip me 250cr for a heal session?"

After I mastered doc, I healed one player, all his stats were down to 1/1. Healed all that I could, used 12 woundpacks in the process, and he said "finaly, youre done", and ran out of the medcenter. I was only there to train someone, so I was a little peeved. I sent him a tell letting him know that I was annoyed, and I had given my time to help him, he could atleast say "Thanks", I would have even taken "tnx doc, ur u83r!" and not killed him. This is the response I get:
"Why should I have to pay? Your getting XP."
needless so say I was NOT happy. But that seems to be the general overtone. Your getting XP, so I wont pay you. What I do is this: "Hi! Heals cost 1k per stat. If you have 6 wounded stats, for example, that will be 6k, before I heal you."

As a Master I don't get xp, or rather I don't need the xp I get. So that's kind of a silly argument at this point.
With everyone grinding doc there are occasionally 6-10 nov medic/docs in the hospital at peak hours, so I doubt I could really get away with charging unless I charge late at night/early in the am. Usually, when they come in asking for heals, I send them a tell and ask them to let me know if none of the novices respond to them. I don't want to steal xp from other novices, though I do provide an afk tumbler in the corner for them to heal. I'm pretty vocal about the tumbler being a way for them to make xp when there are no real players to heal and if I see someone ignoring real players in favor of my tumbler then I turn her off. I created the tumbler because I play really late/early (4 am) and there were nights when no real players came in to be healed.
Some times there are not even any master docs on at that late/early and I wonder if it would be appropriate to charge a bit more for buffing once I get the packs if I am buffing at non-peak hours.
I think at this point I might just sell the resources from my harvester for 1cpu or less on the bazaar. I'd really rather do doc stuff than be a miner, but that might be the only way to make money.
Thanks for the advice.

"Why should I have to pay? Your getting XP."
I hate this reason. I used to get all the time while training creatures for people while doing CH and if they didn't pay the price I was asking they didn't get their beloved pet back but medics can't do that, you can't just take the wounds back. My other character is doing medic and is still 2 2 1 2 after 5 weeks and i only heal for xps but I will not heal rude people.Lets face it, players only respect Doctors that buff them and will pay though the nose for it. But soon the higher i get in medic Im going to ask for a tip first to cover the cost of resouces before I heal they wounds and if they don't pay I won't heal.

When I started my character several months ago on a new server, I did artisan missions between Dee'ja Peak and Moenia that pays 1300+ apiece day in and day out for 2+ weeks until I hit 660K, but gets very mind numbing and needs alot of patience.
Combat will work as well if you can level up high enough and go to Dantooine and do solo group missions.

Wound b's are not that hard to make and dont really cost alot at all. If somebody doesnt want to pay you go about your business, who cares you did just get xp from them! Dont forget sometimes there will be new people who dont understand to tip for your services, or like I have been in the past FLAT BROKE! They dont deserve a heal? What is very annoying isto stand in a med center and watch people heal the AFK tumblers while good people come in look around and have a seat and wait, I will heal them anytime tip or not, thanks or no thanks. Think about all the people that come in and see these medics ignore them for the tumbler over there, why the hell would you want to tip anybody after coming in time and time again only to have tosit and wait while they heal naturally?

First of all, let me be clear, I heal everyone unless they don't derserve it (racial/orientation slurs to other docs, etc). Some people don't have credits, I get that. But don't come in with a 20k laser rifle and composite armor and 200+ wounds and then tell me "Oh, sorry, I'm broke." Yeah, right. So tip me 10cr. Sometimes it's not so much the amount as the gesture. I make it a point to /tell every single person who tips me for healing with a thank you.
Packs don't cost much, but they aren't free, either. IMO, any profession should be self-supporting. At first I was happy with XP and the occasional tip, because I needed the xp more than the tip. Now, I don't need the XP at all but I do need money because better and faster services require more resources. I can no longer easily survey for the resources necessary to craft and some components require factory ownership or access.
You can be altruistic all you want and tell yourself you're in it for the player interaction and to help people, but as a doc, you should not have a negative income. Try going to your general practitioner and telling him you can't pay him. Eventually you will drive him out of business because he won't be able to afford supplies.
I am not asking for thousands of credits in tips but it took me a fair amount of time and energy to get leveled so that I can heal in the first place, and in my opinion they are paying for that. If you want to wait all night trying to flag the attention of a tumbler healer and beg them to help you for free, go ahead. If you want a Master Doc to heal you in a fraction of the time with no wait or begging, then frankly, you should be willing to pay for it.
First and foremost it's a game and not one I'm likely to play if I'm not having fun. Crafting stims/wound packs all day and then having to go do missions later to subsidize buying the resources/paying maintenance on harvesters is not fun for me. What's the point of being a doc, then? Plus, it costs me money and the patients are more often rude than polite.
It seems to me that if you walk in to a room full of afk tumbler healers and there's a "real" doc/medic willing to heal you, you should tip. Why withhold a tip and punish the person willing to help you because of the actions of others?

Why is it that someone with a genuine complaint is labeled a whiner? Explain to me why I should have to create a combat character or pick up a combat profession to subsidize doctor? Shouldn't it be self-supporting?
You crafted your own buffs? Wow that's cool. Where did you get a factory for your identical bio effect controllers? Where did you get the money to buy avian meat at 200cpu? Pay your harvester for your lokian wild wheat?
My point is, I'm not a huge fan of combat these days. It's old and I'm interested in exploring new things. I'm just wondering why people don't tip anymore for heals. Combat is completely player controlled. You get leveled up and get a higher reward for doing missions. If my doc character gets leveled up she doesn't even have a guarantee of being paid at all, let alone receiving an increased income for better, faster service.
It just seems to me that doc has gone the way of the entertainer. No one seems to tip entertainers anymore, from what they've told me, unless they're buffing. To me, it's worse for docs than entertainers. At least entertainers aren't out the money required to buy/harvest resources they don't even need buff packs.
I wonder if you'd "whine" if the devs took away mission payouts.

1. Because of the funny replies you get when they try to defend themselves.
2. I stole the factory from a greasy Trandoshan, and I skinned a few Birds. For the harvestor fees, I sold my body. I'm not proud of that...
3. Get in a guild. Random pubbie #3 doesn't give a damn what you do for him.
4. Entertainers have to make instruments. Plus no one likes them anymore due to the timerchanges.
5.You mean they didn'ttake away mission payouts?Since I never get paid for my Janta missions anymore, I assumed...
