Thread: Master Medic vs. Master Doctor
I'm having second thoughts.
Do the doctors or visiting combat medics have any comments on this dilemma?
The buffing fast thing is starting to look very appealing. It will be fixed, I'm sure, by the timje I'm able to benefit from it.
Currently the healing is not a big issue, until players get hp like pets do and mobs start doing attacks that remove 1/2 of them in a swipe, stim-kit Ds are at the point of being over kills in the amount they heal. So if you just want to do some healing in groups master medic is all that is needed.
However where doctors are really nice is with all the healstates, revive dead, the buffs and even the removal of poison and disease. The buffs are a big surprise with people, you throw a +250 heath and action on them and they don't know what happened. Now if they only work the majority of the time it would be even better.
I at one point wanted to go bio-engineer. Then I heard doctors get a rezz...
I ignored all of my other doctor skills till I got wound treatment 4, for the rez, and boy was it worth it. I got wound treatment 4 and all of my other skills followed suit due to the heals being 4x as effective as those of my medic heals.
I love being a doctor. One of my biggest gripes about being a medic was that trying to get paid for my services was ludicrous, and when I would leave the hospital without healing people, I would get nasty tells. I still get nasty tells as a doctor for leaving without healing, but until someone flashes 2k in front of my face, I don't heal them. I have no problem making money to support my harvesters and my factory. That is why doctor is cool.
Yes indeed DokTarDakTari... The attitudes at the med center are rather disturbing.
Heck, I got lambbasted by one of the medics one day for trying to charge for my services. I mean that is just so frustrating, getting whipped by another medic for simply trying to pay for expenses. ![]()
I don't even bother with the med center anymore. I hang out in combat groups who understand the benefit I provide (and I get paid for it too).
Yes, people do indeed get an attitude if you try to charge for healing, but for the guy that started the post, there is one ugly side to being a doctor.
It is not at all rare for me to walk into the med center to heal my own wounds, and I will just cast an eye for someone that needs lots of healing, so I can make a couple k and they get out fast.
Almost everytime I start to heal someone, there are medics that start to say things like "Oh god, here comes the doctor, time for everyone to stop getting xp." and things like that.
Well, just in case that happens to you, I thought you would want to know that everyday you will get that. I don't let it bother me though. Sometimes I just get spiteful (towards certain novice medics that always flame me) and heal everyone in the place in like 3 minutes. Boy does that piss some people off. Normally, I would consider that griefing, but in this case, I call it retaliation.
I love being a master doctor. I don't think its an uber profession, but I do think its a lot of fun. You get to help others, craft and have enough points left over to buy some combat skills.
You can keep a full group of 20 hunting tough critters alive as a master medic, so being a doctor is largely for the 'fun' of experimenting with drugs, reviving people (which is still rare enough that itillicits a lot of oohs, ahs, and thank you's) and tossing outlong duration buffs.
As for wound damage, wound damage for me as a medic was a pain, slow and repetitive. For a master doctor, wound damage is relegated to the category of the trivial.
One important thing to remember is that being a master doctor uses up 2 of your 3 mastery allowances, and you can make master doctor very easily. I can see obsessive types doing it in a week. So once you're there, you're done. If you're a carrot and stick type of personality, that requires the 'get xp/push the button for a banana' reward system, you'll get bored real fast, as there's no incentive to use your skills from that point on.
I look forward to fighting out in the field like that, buffing and healing. Will it slow me down to have 0 wound treatment speed?
I'm not going for master doctor, but if combat medic isn't worth being master then I think I can enjoy being master doctor.
