Thread: Doctor CU FAQ
Hi Zalia. Let me try to point you in the right direction.
You get medical XP if you heal someone in combat (you don't need to be, they need to be fighting) and you'll get the equivalent in medical XP as they get in combat XP. Problem is that if that person is fighting something that is lower level, that person won't get combat XP and thus, you won't get medical XP
Example : You heal me while i'm in combat
I'm level 80, and i'm fighting a level 30 tusken. If I win, I get 1 point in combat XP, you get 1 point in medical XP
but if I fight a level 82 something and I win, i get 6.5k of combat XP and you also get 6.5k of medical XP
So you need to find people that are fighting mobs that have the same level (or very close to). That's the only way to get medical XP but as you can see, it can go up really fast if you're in a group that's fighting high level mobs. I needed XP to complete combat medic and it only took 6 kills for me to get 30k of medical XP.
Hope this helps.

If rezzing works the same as in EQ2 then you cannot rez while any member of your group is still in combat. So it isn't a case of it failing per sei, but rather that while someone in the group is in combat a rez doesn't work. Only the Fury (druid) could rez while in combat, so I wonder if docs will get that seeing they are healers and not fighters... /shrug
I would first like to say that I have enjoyed playing the CU and think that it has done a lot to make combat more engaging than the old system. Since I have 2 accounts I have gotten to play both as a combat-centric character and as a Doc. I'm sad to say, the CU experience was very different from the perspective of a Doc.
I have played a Doctor for well over a year. As one of the first Docs on my server, I remember playing before the community really started placing such high value on Doctor buffs. With a skilled Doc or Medic, we were able to make harrowing raids on the nightsister caves and hold our own. Success certainly couldn't be guaranteed, but the challenge made the undertaking worthwhile. We even made it to the bottom of the Stronghold cave once. Yes, without buffs. Many of us weren't even wearing armor. We made it down there on teamwork, skill, grit, and luck. But somehow things began to change. I don't exactly know when, how, or why, but people soon began to act like they needed buffs to play. Certainly the armor requirements added to that, but the change happened so swiftly, over a couple of weeks it seemed. People just wouldn't play or take the risks they used to unless they had a full set of the best buffs money could buy and the armor to match. And I found myself increasingly unneeded in combat. The combination of armor and buffs protected people for the most part. Only the occaisional raid on the toughest areas called for the assistance of an experienced Doc. So when I read about the proposed changes for the CU, I was excited to learn that buffs would be greatly de-emphasized in the new system. I've longed for the days when my profession was more important during battle than before one. I had the most fun fulfilling my role in combat than at the head of a buff line in Coronet. And after playing with the new system for a few hours last night I appreciate the steps that have been made to restore that role to my profession. People are happier to be rezzed now that they will be able to return to combat sooner than they would have before. Rezzing people once more keeps them in the fight instead of taking them out of it like it did in the old system with its buff-reliant combat. I believe we have taken a big step back in the right direction.
That said, I do believe some important changes need to be made to the healing system in the new CU. I was dismayed to see that the effectiveness of my heals had dropped so greatly as to cause the rest of our group to rely on the jedi grouped with us for healing since he could perform heals more frequently and effectively than my own. Furthermore, the fact that CMs can now rez as well as perform their many other combat functions has left the Doctor profession very marginalized. We are no longer reliable in combat as healers, and we never really did have much other function in combat outside of rezzing. And now that they have taken away the xp gains from healing outside of combat, there is little room left for a Doc to play in the CU. Point for point CM has an obvious advantage over Doc in terms of effectiveness. Yes we can heal wounds, but Jedi too have this skill. I am not saying either CM or Jedi should be limited, but by expanding their roles and limiting ours, there is little room left for a Doc in the new 8 person groups. I have really enjoyed playing a Doc in this game. I treat it as a full profession, dedicated to keeping others at their best and helping to make the improbable possible for the groups I'm with. I don't expect to be the best damage dealer or even own a significant role in PvP. But I do think we should still be there for our teammates to rely on when the combat turns thick in the toughest PvE situations. Please increase the effectiveness and drop rates for our heals in combat and restore us to our role as the primary healers in combat. This role once was and should remain uniquely the domain of your friendly and helpful Doc.
Thanks for hearing me out, and please keep up the good work.

Since Docs are now considered Combat Proff, the med xp should also be used for combat xp conversions, and like the previous person has said, the healing timer should be reworked to better reflect our capabilities. It is currently a little on the long side.

I certainly respect your words!
Reading them however, the initial reaction is: "Are you saying the only way you like the CU is if doctor is the uber healer and CM and jedi play a secondary healing role?"

I call BS on the XP thing.... I have been in combat, grouped, higer skill lvl and lower skill levels. NO XP !!!!
I too am going to med xp for the FSXP. If this is not fixed immediately I am cancell this account...
You should get XP for buffing--- PLAIN AND SIMPLE!
SOE for teh win
I was fighting solo tonight on dath and was getting med xp for healing myself. I am lvl 80 and was fighting lvl 80 brackasets. It split my xp between unarmed and medical each time. But it was only showing on my combat spam. Not sure if this is a bug or not.
Come on people get out there and join a group and take on something your own level.
Three of us went to the Maurader cave on Endor last night and I got 600k Unarmed, 60k combat, and 250k medical in about 2.5 hours. Just fight smartly and don't take on too many at a time.
BTW Medical xp now caps at higher amount(I suspect 900k, or possibly more because unarm now caps at 1.2 million but maybe just for the bonus week). And Force sensitive conversion is now 10-1,I think it used to be 3-1 but forget.
