Thread: What do people consider really good buffs, and what are they willing to pay?

There are prices to consider in every crafting profession. A doc is no consideration. Even if you do harvest all of your own resources (which I do), saving on the cost of meats/gas/metals/water, there is still the prices of the harvesters to consider, the maintenance on said harvesters, the cost of your own buffs for use while hunting meat, the cost of stims while hunting (also in my case the cost of pet stims/food/vitality paks for my pets while hunting), armor, wepons, mind food or buffs, the cost of the best crafting stations/tools, SEA's, med enhancing foods, the cost of, maintenance in, and power of running factories.... and the list can go on and on and on. So in order to make a profit in the long run you have to be competative. Now lets say most docs do, or decide to from now on get ALL of their own resources...what would that do to an econemy full of hunters who make their living off of getting buffed and going out toharvest meats to sell to docs and CM's, if they have no buyers, they have no cash to pay for your buffs, or a need to go out and hunt for your meat so you lose customers and suppliersthat way.... or the people who devote all of their lots to running harvestors so they can sell resources to crafters... So yes, theoretically you could harvest all ofyour own materials to save money and make cheaper buffs, but you wouldnt have as many people to buff in the long run and the people who devote their game to selling materials to doc's and CM's would no longer have a reason to play. What would that do the economy?

I think it is all working out the way it is supposed to, including the rising cost of buffs and anything else in the game. As the game got older and people became more educated on how to craft better, longer lasting buffs, the price rose.As uber resources shift in and out, when the best is hard to find and a few people have hordes of the best stashed away to sell for high dollar in hard times, the cost of said resources rose. It doesnt take a rocket scinetist or an economics major to see why things are the way they are. And I for one think they work well.

Having been on both ends of the spectrum here (a hunter/resource seller & now MD) I have no complaints on either side, about buff costs, about resource costs, about inflation....etc If it aint broke, don't fix it. I think it works just fine for most if not all.

The reason I've rasied prices on my packs is3 fold.

First, I'm getting into stockpiling the really good stuff that's out there, hedging against a time where it just won't be available. The avian meat currently in shift is selling for 100cpu, 150cpu for stacks over 10k. I've managed to harvest around 10k avian meat myself (off chokus and whisper birds, current shift), and had another 2k given to me, either from friends, or my "100 units of avian for a full buff" deal I'm running. That makes about 12k avian so far. I want around 200 packs of each stat, that's around 38k (including fails, factory schems, etc) more meat I'll need. If I have to buy that last 26k, lets say after it falls out of shift so it'll cost around 150cpu, that will set me back about 3.9mil. Ouch.

Second, buffing the public is taxing at best. Imagine if you will sitting in one spot for sometimes hours at a time, selling my services (key word there) to a very diverse population. I run into folks that speak a different language than me (Radiant is the unofficial spanish language server), have a hard time using the interface (why people insist on using the secure trade window to give me credits is beyond me), can't read (the shout, my auto reply, and my auto greeting macros all supply the cost, duration, and strength of the buffs. There's no need to quiz me again on them.), or are just plain rude (name calling, cutting in line, whiners that have waited in line for 15 min and now decide the price is too high and want to haggle, etc).

Third, I'm playing a game, and would rather go out and enjoy myself! I do enjoy doing buffs with the vast majority of people, I can hold a pleasent little conversation while I'm making some money, as the social aspect of the game just feels to have fallen for me, and this is a way for me to get it back a bit . Just the rude ones that want to rain on my parade really get to me at times, and I've packed up before on a full line because of them. I end up feeling like a total heel over this, but just can't take the abuse anymore, and want to get out of the situation

So far though, response has been positive to the new price, and I think I'm sticking with it. In fact, I'm now getting extra tips at the end of my sessions, with people telling me that it's the best buff they've had, and it's worth a few k more, which I must admit is a really really good feeling

Trying to "run down the prices" on your server just doesn't work.

I tend to not buff the public, because most people are stupid. However, when I do, I charge 15K and up for 2450+ buffs. If someone else comes along and starts charging less, fine. Let them. They run out of packs or go crazy trying to keep up with it.

I just think of it as fairness. Without buffs, most characters couldn't even wear their armor. You can easily do a 30K mission in 5 minutes. Is it unreasonable to say that I want 15K for good buffs, when you can make 2x that in 5 minutes? Nope.

They don't wanna buy, who cares? I don't sweat it.

For those that think I'm wrong, you should see me at the Death Watch Bunker.....or Geo Caves.....charging 10K for a Rez and 25K for buffs
