Thread: The Rudeness of Younger Doctors
I am a Novice Doctor on Eclipse and mainly hang out at the Bestine Medical Centre. I am indeed advancing fast up the Doctor ranks and just require Master Wound Treatment Speed, Master Doctors Knowledge and expert and master crafting. I make powerful stims and packs and yes I do get through an awful lot of patients. Its a slow climb as Doctor, with so many xp points being required, and I dread the crafting tree advances as it means so much crafting to advance in that leg of the profession.
However much I agree with the comments above, I would like to point out one thing which makes me feel just as justified as any novice medics in the medical centre to be there, and that is this... we all started where they did and we have ALL sat there healing someone slowly on the lower medic ranks when a doctor comes in and uber-heals the patient right in front of you. Did I moan? not once!! Did I give abuse to the Doctor concerned? No way!!! If anything, it made me even more determined to advance in my profession so that I too could heal patients just as quickly.
If any lower rank medics have a problem with doctors taking xp then they should consider one thing, without those doctors, patients would have to spend ages in the med centre taking tiny heals and generally being left with tons of secondary wounds because those same medics that we around him at firstrun and swarm around the next wounded guy that comes in simply becausethe other guysblack wound bars are far greater than the ones he has. I've seen it happen, and medics do not always finish the job they started. We've all been there in the lower medic ranks, we DO understand, but on the same note, we're not going to take any $#!+ either, so don't work against the doctors, just improve and get up to where we are... if we did it, so can you!
When i take on a patient, he gets the full treatment, he does not get left with minor wounds, and he leaves happy and able to rejoin his hunting group quickly without losing half an hour out to get healed. I, amongst other skilled medics and doctors do the job quickly and the patients appreciate that. So I am not changing even when I do hit Doctor, however the focus on getting xp will not be there as much, its likely my focus will most likely shift to assisting on hunts, or even production of ready made medical items for medics galaxy wide.
Have fun on your journey to MD, its a toil I know, but if anyone moans... TOUGH ON THEM! WE HAVE BEEN THERE!!! Its no different now, than it was back then, so its just sour grapes as far as i'm concerned.
There, i can rest my fingers now. ![]()
Jaurus BlackFoxx (Novice Doctor, Bestine Medical Centre, Eclipse)
hahaha actually the majority of the current master doctors and master CMs...didnt xp on wounds...we xped in the field. U have to remember for almost 3 weeks there were no wounds to heal because newbie death was in...
so most of the master doctors now just laugh at the novice medic trying to level in the med center because they really arent utilizing their time in the most efficient way possible in terms of xp/time.
Stay in the med center if u must....its ur right to..but its my right to go into the med center and do what i do best as well...
if u want ur own patients open ur own clinic. and just because some1 maye be wearing a master doctor tag doesnt mean they dont need medical xp..they may be grind the CM ranks...
bottom line is if u choose to stay in the med center you just have to deal with people healing better than you...
I've found that the closer I get to master doctor, the more training requests I get.
Heck, today in the medical center (Coronet/Starsider...I've seen you Odoh!
) I think I had like 5 people sending tells for training at once.
I've NEVER seen anyone get upset with me for using my C wound packs though -- Half the time I dont even go in the center -- I run around and look for people needing healing. Neear the cantina, near the starport...all great places.
But I wear my tag proudly. I get tells to go to far off places All. The. Time. I get tells from people that remember my fast wound healing. I get tells to come heal this or that person here or there. But I've never seen the rudeness.
I do know that when I go in a med center and see alot of other medics there, I dont even stay. I just leave and get my med droid out, and wander the streets. I've met more people this way. They also tip better -- I dont htink I've ever NOT gotten a tip from street healing.
But yeah. I'll always happily wear my doctor title . I chose this profession to help others. I enjoy this. If I didnt, I wouldn't have become a doctor. If I didnt enjoy this, I wouldn't wear my title. I'm just gald I can help others to enjoy their play experience ![]()
As for this whole "rude 'younger' Doctor" thing, I don't find it particularly entertaining to sit in a medcenter and take care of 10 people simultaneously asking for heals; I like being out on the field healing in combat...but I'm sure there are others that do find it fulfilling or whatnot. A Master Doctor has as much of a right to be in a Medical Centre as a Novice Medic, no matter how much the Medic may gripe about it. IMHO the people that would whine about a Master Doctor healing in a medical centre have a pretty selfish mindset. I'd imagine a Medical character working his way up the trees would see a person with all black Health and Action as a walking chunk of xp, but healing at a tedious rate isn't exactly fair to the wounded player either if there's a Master Doctor sitting at her desk twiddling her thumbs two feet away.
This thread had me laughing...seems we all have the same experiences regardless of what server/planet we are on!
I also started out in a little city, having to leave when my skill became too much for the novices to handle. I also always asked first if my assistance is required before I jump in on a patient.
If a near-death patient came in to the hospital, I would take a majority of the wounds away, and then leave the rest for the others to fix. We all shared our experience that way and everyone was happy.
I am always pleased to train other physicians, I consider it a privelege to do so. I have been lucky in not encounteringtoo muchrudeness from those following the same profession. When someone has behaved badly I straight up tell them off. Simple.
The worst experiences have been from patients. Those who scream for attention, do not tip at all, then proceed to insult us when they are told that the 200+ wounds they just had healed do not come free and that next time some compensation would be greatly appreciated. Needless to say they are then blacklisted and if they appear again, they are not given any service. It catches on. I share my blacklist with all the physicians present when I am in the hospital.
My favorite story is one where a very abrasive warrior came into the clinic demanding attention. He was made to wait regardless, and this further raised his ire. I for one declared his behavior did not warrant my using my skill on him and that was that. My friend however began healing him against my better advice. Once healed, this warrior let loose a string of profanity which warranted a /report from us.
The following day this person once more appeared with extreme wounds and bleeding. Having told the attending physicians about him, no one moved a muscle to help him. You can imagine how hard a lesson helearned as his bleeding health incapacitated him over and over and over. You can imagine how thrilled both my friend and I were when he suddenly paid us each 2k, which both of us thanked him graciously for, saying 'oh this was for last night's poor show of appreciation then, very good!'.....as we let him continue to bleed out over and over. Again the profanities began, and we simply laughed at him and reminded him biting the hand that feeds you isnt the best course of action! No one healed him and he had to let it run its course, eventually running off to torment other physicians I'm sure.
There are bad apples all over. Squish them up and make apple juice!
Realizing that I was an exp. pig sometimes as I logged hour after hour climbing the med ladder (and still not all the way there) I not only asked a few of the novice medics if they didnt mind a little help with the healing, I prompted patients to tip the novices instead of me. Feeling generous is sometimes the only reason I play this game.
And on more than one occasion, I have opened a trade window and given them a Wound B pack just for being committed to the profession. I like to see their reactions of WOW and HOLY SMOKES as they see the potential in their arts. They get a quick boost in XP that entertainers gain by grouping, and Weaponeers gain in Massive Hunting parties.
Okay, I have been lucky....I have received a 10k tip just for staying up late. Seven thousand units of prime bug meat was another good night.
The Docs and Medics shouldn't battle one another for experience and/or tips.
What we can do to better our craft is to ignore and/or refuse treatment to patients who are overtly rude to one of our own.
Tell a novice med off and have a Doctor tell you to leave the clinic...now that'd be funny.
Wow, and to think I've always treated the doctors with respect.
I'm just now reaching Master Medic (YAY!) and I've always treated the Doctors with respect that fits the position I'm in. I consider myself an intern or trainee (that I am) and in fact I've found that it makes the Doctors much more responsive to me, and makes the patients calm down a bit. I fuss over people and tell them the "doctor will be with you soon, until then I'll be your medic." While I think my server and planet (Flurry and Talus) are much nicer than most, I also think respect your elders, and they'll respect you.
Besides, the patients are the priority here right? I mean I took an oath to "do no harm and to help those in need." If that means letting a doctor heal them then by gum I'll ask the doctor to come over. Then again I'm a "casual" gamer, I'm more in it for *gasp!* FUN!
Being known as a country doctor, or the one with the funny bedside manner, or the local doc, or in some cases the ONLY doc who will come into the med center is worth more to me than lossing some Xp to a Doctor. Know that I'm almost a doctor (just 50 more Aprentice points! YAY!) I look forward to continue healing where and when I'm needed. If the "Youngin's" can't respect that, so be it. I get to be "the old country doctor who happens to be a mean cuss!" Hehe, in fact, I think I'm looking forward to that.
The Wandering Ninja Doctor strikes again. Running through campsites healing those he passes. What's really fun is sneaking up on afk campers and healing them then disappearing before they return to their keyboards. Now if they would only fix the Entertainers not healing BF at campsites and you would barely ever see me in town.
Yeah,I love doing "drive by" ninja heals. I just get a kick out of keeping my droid out as I make harvester runs or head to missions or whatever, and then targeting every player I happen to see out there then stim or heal as I just keep running on by. Every now and then somebody is fast enough to react with a TY before I'm long gone, and sometimes they send me a tell, but I just get a ckick out of doing it.
I healed one guy once who was AFK in the Starport with all black HAMs. Prolly a newbie with cloning wound. I always pictured that guy coming back to his character later to see that his Health and Action bars were all ehaled up and saying to himself "Wow! I just gotta hang out and wait long enough in the Starport to get healed!" And then him going back to the Starport everytime he gets hurt thinking that is where he was supposed to go or that he found a new bug that let him heal there. ![]()
That has to be one of the funniest uses of drive by healing I have heard yet Zarlor. No wonder I see a gaggle of Newbs hanging arount the Coronet Starport waiting to spontaneously recover from their blacked out HAMs.
Now if we could just get entertainers to understand that no amount in the clinic is going toheal mind wounds, I would be happy. Too bad there are no drive by concerts.
