Thread: Medical Ethics

I wear my Doctor tag 99% of the time. The other 1% I'm just not in the mood to RP or deal with the kiddies, so I throw up Blademaster and go off somewhere.

One thing I have made clear to plenty of people, Master Doctor does not mean Buff o' Matic. I wear my MD tag because I heal people, cure their disease or help out the young medics. I swing by the medical centers to see if anyone is inside, granted I don't stay there long if empty but I do check.

I treat the patients that treat me with respect, or say nothing at all (they could be afk healing in the med centers after all). I refuse treatment to the rude.

I don't take my tag down to avoid buff requests, in fact I reply to each and every one of them, "Sorry not buffing at this time". It is enough for most people, I have a long ignore list of people who figured it was my "duty" to serve them.

So in summary,

I have my ethics, I have not strayed from them. I try to RP as much as possible and surprisingly my ignore list is not as long as most. I am a Doctor, I am not a bot.

I treat people with respect, and demand nothing less from them. Those who fail to measure up, deserve to wallow in their misery.

I have had numerous conversations with people in the end, they may not agree with my stance, but they do respect it.

All this, and I'm on Ahazi

When I buff, I usually greet them with a howdy, or a how yah doin? I spent about 3 hours buffing yesterday, and had only one or two rude individuals, that were acquaintances of mine. Generally, the population on Gorath is ok. I even ran out of buffpacks and sent a lackey to get more. The 15 people in line (I was the only medic in Coronet buffing at the time) all sat down and waited. I heard not a single peep, or disgruntlement. They were all very nice and kind. They even agreed to pay the full price, even after waiting. This was also about an hour and a half before downtime. I try to be nice to everyone that seeks a buff. A couple of players asked for line cuts, and I told them 150k, which one gladly paid. I've had inquiries from people to rez, buff, cure disease etc, and generally, I respond with an affirmative, unless they start demanding, or use simple words, such as "...you buffing?"
I don't mind being at someone's beck and call, because ultimately, I know that that same person will be returning to pay me more money, for something that takes 1 and a half minutes to apply. However, if they treat me rudely, or are impatient with me, then they get /addignored and my life is made simpler by one less person. As a rule, on Gorath, the population is "nice", but there are the rare bad eggs. I keep my MD tag on most of the time, unless I'm raiding with the guild, or don't feel like being a Doctor just then. Still, it stays up 99% of the time, and I enjoy being a Doctor. Ethics aside, if you treat me with respect, you'll get tons in return. Treat me like a dog, and you get blacklisted.
Just my two cents.

"Why is it that most of the medics now days spend most of the time healing AFK tumblers or buffing people? What happens to the people that really need a medic to heal wounds.... times have defenetly changed......"

Dear Troll,

If this is in fact such a great concern to you I suggest the following. Invest the required skill points and experience to become a master doctor. Then you can sit in the medical center waiting to heal the wounds of anyone that happens by.

I laugh at your notion that me not playing the game the way you would have me play it is some how an ethical issue, especially when you yourself feel no ethical mandate to solve the perceived problem with your own time and effort.

Don't know better?

DON'T KNOW BETTER?

It becomes obvious that the reason you may experince hostility in the game has nothing to do with "respect" but attitude.

I read some of these posts and I cant help but feel jealious of some of my fellow docs on other servers. Docs who get tipped, thanked, or even a brief conversation from the majority of their patients/customers. I've only had my master doc title for a little while, but I've been a part of the medical professions since my start on swg (bio-engineer, medic, or just chatting with docs). The number of rude people just seems to grow daily along with my ignore list. At this rate, I'm not sure what will come first.... people being respectful or my ignore list hitting a name cap. I like to help people. I give free buffs to entertainers who are not afk. I heal people if I have wound packs and they at least formpolite andsomewhat completesentences when they enter the med center. I give a few free buffs to newbies when I can. I've even buffed the action of tumblers to help up and coming medics/docs get better exp per stim. I've seen other docs do the same on WH. Yet, the demands and rudeness continues.

Is it true? Has all the combat players been hit in the head a few too many times? Is blow this up, smash this, loot that all they know anymore? Have they forgot how to talk to other people? Are they really so stupid they cant figure out why docs get upset?

Wish I knew the answer......

Yep, had two guys that wanted line jumps. One gave me 150k, the other gave me 80k. Needless to say, I was more than happy to let them cut.

Don't you guys understand it's better to get one star then no stars? So some or most doctors hide from the abusive public. I was only a master for 2 days before I started getting demands and abuse. I'm not a buff bot or their servent. When I am out and about if some one needs heals for wounds or states I am more then happy to do it, but 90% of the time I don't get acknowledgement or payment for doing this but I dont care about that part of it. (even the it comes out of my pocket to do so) But when people who dont have the ability to heal or buff themselves dont you think they could be a little more kind to the people that can? Won't it be in their best interest to do so? So come on where is the love from docs who are tired of it all? Please 5 star me. Thanx.
