Thread: Artisans are demanding Harvestor Certifications. Heavies for M.A. only. Stop this Now.
This is scary to think of.. As if its not geting hard to get Meats now much less if they did this..We must put a stop to this. IMHO

I Personally am on the Fence of whether or not I would care if these certs went in place.. I will say if they do.. It only be on the condition that Harvester Decay Be implemented at the same time.. That is the only way that our sales would not be negatively effected.. ( and Possible may even improve our sales.).. The other advantage of the certs is by narrowing down the people who can Use Harvesters.. and somewhat limiting the amount of resources that can be pulled from the ground it could potentially open the door for better Harvesters to be made down the road...
I guess what I am saying ... If Decay is not implemented WITH the cert system that the artisan community is pushing for... Then I do plan on fighting the new cert program..
As for factories... If they were going to cert those .. the certs should fall in each crafting profession.. not just in the artisan.. ...

So a Master Architect would have to be a Master Artisan to use his own harvesters. This would be like telling a BE that they have to be a Master Medic to take DNA samples.

I agree with you very much... but I just had to point out that your analogy is bad. Bioengineers can't use the pets they make unless they're also a creature handler. Weaponsmiths can't use the elite guns they make unless they have that weapon skill. Although those restrictions make more sense than Architects not being able to use their own harvesters.
I should have said that BE pets and weapons are both considered weapons, not a way to collect resources to advance in your profession.

A quick word on paying for things, It's already been pointed out that artisan is a novice profession and thus not really ment to be a money spinner, very, very true and yet it clearly is a massive money spinner if you get a few harvesters and put some time into survaying.
I see this as an imbalance, why? think back to when you were a plain old Medic. Did you get paid for heals? Would your weedy stimB sell much? No and No. Furthermore, did we complain and ask for all healing to incurr a charge? Of course not! Novice professions are a stepping stone to other more advanced ones, artisans already have it more than good, as their profession can turn a profit that no one elses can (Ok maybe scout but the effort to harvest resources is several fold more so you have to work hard at it to make cash). What I want to know is why should this imbalance be exacerbated by giving artisans sole access to advanced harvesters that they don't even make?
These certs would be handing artisans a monopoly, and this is a very serious issue when you consider the lack decentsupply we already have! As it stands everyone can harvest, and (albeit an exploit) own a vendor, yet all over my server finding a good supply for a wide range of resources being is next to impossible. There are plenty of empty useless vendors to explore but very little in terms of constantly stocked vendors with a wide range of goods. Is it just me who notices this? Or does everyone really own their own army of harvesters? If so I find this hard to believe; finding a stocked architect's vendor is even more difficult than finding a stocked resource vendor right now!
In fact if finding decent resources wasn't such a pain in the butt I'd happily drop my 4/0/0/4 artisan for something else (as I've said already); I'd even put my name to asking for a checkable register (like a bazaar terminal or registering with a location they way we can) that would list a planets tradespeople, where they wereand when they were last stocked. This would help customers find vendors (rather than wasting my time having to run round every player city in the galaxy looking for a stocked artisan, tailor etc.) Because let's face it, it's hardly competition killing trade rather the customer not being able to find you!
Gift.
