How about increasing the downer affects on spices then to about 30 minutes?

Hey I know how you feel.
When the game was released I joined everyone and their sister complaining about lack of tip in medical center.
We said "Just you wait. keep short changing us Doctors and soon medical center will be empty! Then you will Rue the day!!!"
Well we were right. medical centers ARE empty, every newbie medics are in cantina and it is so bad players want NPC healer in medical center.
But where did that get us? We were right and we showed them, big whoop. Being right don't pay the harvester maintance ya know.
People still don't tip (since there is no one in med center to tip to) and at the end it didn't make us doctors any better.
I rather not get nurfed and have people continue to get buff rather than get nurfed and everyone suffer for lack of buffs.
Thanks to those who offered constructive responses. As i mentioned earlier, i was in fact once a buffing doctor before i switched to tka, so I personally have no problem posting on this board.
I still not fully convinced 2 hours is appropriate/balanced, but i don feel better about it in relation to how hard it is to craft those packs apparently (something i never did nor would ever want to do)...
My feeling Zedar is that we need to stop asking for nerfs of characters....and FIX what is wrong with this game. Doctors work long and hard, have tons of crafting failures,and pay a hell of a lot of credits to make buffs. If they don't get good resources buffs will be horrid, plain and simple.
I personally think the timer for spices, muon gold, etc. should be longer. I don't like to take them because not only do they not last long....but then you get slapped with the downer effect which in my opinion is just dumb. It's penalizing players for using them. I have often seen players in the middle of a fight go from having a fairly decent mind due to muon gold, to basically no mind at all due to the downer effect and what do you know....they get incapped or slain because they end up with next to no mind. Now that's dumb dumb dumb. At least there shouldn't be a downer effect, but I would like to see that removed as well as the small timer on spices and such. Make them last 30 mins.
Spices
Mostly ok as they are, better effect than food but with a downer. Make the duration 10-15 minutes and the downer 5 minutes. This would improve duration but not hurt other classes. Spices should have a downer, otherwise it's just food.
Chefs
Increase duration to 10-15 minutes depending on how high up the tree. Effectiveness in the 100-500 range. Not as effective as drugs but no downer. Allow 2-3 items to stack, like they are supposed to.
Doctors
Keep the 2 hr buffs and they should be the most effective of the three. There is an argument that they can be too effective (3000+ buffs) and that inbalances the game. Also, docs can't help mind, food and spices can.
Doctor Buff can be nurf to 10 min if they make it so that only smuggler can "inject" their drug to customer in person.
When they make it so that only chef can "feed" their food to their customer in person
then and only then can they shorten the duration of Doctor buff."
Its hard to find a doc to buff me late at night but I can always pop muon and drink some fishak. (I actually mastered doc so I can buff myself and now dropped down to dabbler doc 0/2/4/0 for the sole purpose of buffing. I think they should last hours considering what a pain they are to make ...)
all i can say is ... don't screw with my buffs ...

granted, reducing the time the buffs last would bring me more business. I don't need more business. I don't wear my title because i get too many tells as it is. what would nerfing buffs accomplish really? nothing. nothing at all. pissing off docs, i guess. if you're worried about spices and foods, bump the amount of time those last. I could go for some hour long ryshcates and veghashes.

Are you going to the Dancer and Musicianboards and calling the nerf-mobile on them too.. They buff for 2 hours as well.
Pro's and con's are listed throughout the thread.
Spice and Food.. Can be taken with you, self applied at anytime, effects are instant, portable.
Buffs..(Doc/Dancer/Musician).. Must be applied by the respective Master (for best buff), can not be taken with you, takes time to apply. Dancer/Musician buffs take 10 minutes to be fully applied and to stick for the full duration, doc buffs about 5 minutes or so.
My personal "mantra" on what to use depends on the situation. Get caught in an unplanned battle, spice is great, food I use for planned short battles (missions), and buffs for when I'm planning on being out and about for a long time. (PvP)
Also if you're trying to make an argument about the number of missions you can run while buffed, please don't, as many professions can run those missions in that same amout of time unbuffed. I can clear a lair of voritiors in about 3-5 minutes, and I hardly ever take damage.
Also as you mentioned you can use any old garbage in spice and you get a 10 minute boost. I'm sure if a doc used any old garbage in their buff packs it would be about 10 minutes too, but there's much expense and resource gathering involved.
There's a trade off in connivance for food vs. spices vs. doc buffs.
Oh guess we should nerf TKA as well too since they can power boost with buffs.. oh and let's nerf spices and food since you can take them together as well..
Hmm a TKA with Doc/Dancer/Musician buff, on spice, eating good food, and powerboosted.. That's gonna be a bad ass TKA.. guess we need to nerf that.. Since TKA's have power boost they shouldn't be able to use doc/dancer/musician buffs or food or spice makes them too powerful..
It's all about connivance really. Spice is strong, portable, has downer.. Food is not as strong, portable, has wait period to have an "empty stomach" again.. Doc/Dancer/Musician buffs.. not portable, must find a master, must wait to have buff applied, must travel to meet, not usable by you (read: won't save your a$$ if you get jumped by something).
So my suggestion, instead of trying to get doc's nerf and getting lots of people pissed off at you.. why not try getting spices/food improved. It balances out beacuse you can't doc buffs with you (if you could then a serious balance issues is in place), have to find someone to buff you, skill points required to do it (we're the only buffing profession that requires you to master 2 professions to buff at full power), and oh yeah ANYONE can get buffed.
BTW, perhaps taking a different stance in your posts might not have gotten you such negative posts. And for the record we do compete, but with the simple fact that a doc has to apply their own buffs, it's not very often you see multiple docs sitting at the same location at the same time competing for buffs. Not every server has tons of master docs running around just buffing.
And last final note, instead of trying to blame doc buffs for your inability to sell spice, why not try telling people the benifits of spice/food.. taking it with them is a huge advantage.
