Great! So tell the devs to end the speculation and actually post the rest of the news... Why the big secret anyway? They've got the majority of the plans figured out already, so why not tell us now and let us prepare?

Doomsday threads bore me.

There will be a point to getting doctor, however the point will not be making characters at least five times more powerful.

*deep sigh* Please peps, wait for the prof specific CU-docs before you go out on this kind of doomsday thread. I am sure the devs won't make us a double-SP-medic with only one more ability. I have that much faith in our alpha testers.
Now, if they just would start the alpha.......

Doc can heal other people and since people won't be playing in god mode with armor and buffs, docs will need to be right there in combat to heal people. If anything docs will be needed even more after the CU than now. You finally get to stand up and go out rather than setting in front of a buff line. This does fundimentally change the doc profession though and there will be many that do not like this change. So it isn't all rosey but it isn't the end either.

Is not OK here. Sure, Commando and Bounty Hunter and Squad Leader were horribly overpriced, but that doesn't mean that the rest were underpriced. The ONLY reason they are doing this is to reduce the number of elite combat professions a player can master. Hey, just fix the defense stacking and won't be an issue! When you whack the combat tree with an axe big enough for the Masters to notice, the damage is MUCH worse to those further down.

"Stacker templates be damned" should be the slogan of the CU.

Bounty Hunter and Commando will be the two most powerful elite combat professions not named Jedi (as they were originally intended to be) when the CU hits. Riflemen should still be powerful as damage dealers, but they don't get to feast on mind bars any more. TK should still be popular, but HAM changes and armor nerf will make it much more challenging for any melee profession.

After the CU, you'll actually be able to find a real group of live players to fight with again and not just a bunch of soloists grinding through holocrons/force sensitive quests. There's always going to be fun things to do solo, but there is a reason why they call these things massively multiplayer. The multi-players need to work together to make the game function correctly.

I think a lot of people fail to realize the fact that there is no end game to SWG, and get pissed when they think someone is telling them they can't "beat the game". Guess what, you're not supposed to beat this kind of game. You develop a character in the manner you choose and live out your own personal Star Wars saga through that creation.

Lastly, I believe there will be a greater need for doctors with the CU because of the HAM/buff/armor changes alone. So, wait and see instead of rushing to any quick decisions.

because the rest might not be set in stone yet, did you think of that?

I'm fairly sure that's the case. It's a great way to "test the waters", throwing out enough information to grab peoples' attention and then sitting back to see what develops in board discussions. Certainly the testing groups have asked many, if not all the questions we're just now getting around to realize, and maybe there just aren'tanswers just yet. But threads (even "boring doomsday" threads like this one) give the community an opportunity to express concerns and give some feedback that may help find those answers.

I think it's just the opposite. I think they have a LOT already carved in stone, and are just now going into working out the kinks. I think their minds are made up and the code has been written. Once they go to testing, (soon), the majority of these changes will be coded and ready to go.

Besides, even if the code wasn't there, the IDEAS are set. They know what they're going to do and are implementing now. Most of are concerned about our resources and the economy, and we could get at least SOME answers to questions...(will buff packs use the same resources, will they still require ABEC, ACDRM and ASDS, etc). This would help us try to salvage the losses we've already taken with this announcement...

So yeah, I thought about it...

The CURB will be a big change, but so was cancelling my accounts after playing for nearly a year. From what I know of the revamp I literally and sickened by SOE's direction for the game. I'm not surprised people are breaking the NDA and revealing info, who cares about getting banned from a game you no longer enjoy. I've given SOE many chances to earn my money and they've failed me for the last time.

Tip to LEC/SOE: Sci-Fi MMO players don't necessarily belong to the same resource pool as fantasy MMO players.

Or perhaps they're balancing all of the combat professions so that they each have the same overall power, but in different areas. So that a Pistoleer is just as worthwhile to invest skill points in as Bounty Hunter or Commando. That was the whole point of the CU, so adjusting prerequisites is a necessary part of balance and in the end fun gameplay.

As a Doc, I think these changes are rather unwelcome. There are so many other things that are busted, I think fixingTHEM should have been a priority. Personally, I won't be following a combat group around like a lap dog waiting to be thrown a bone. It won't pay squat.

Yes, I said pay! This game is driven by a player run economy. It is the backbone of everything. People fight to earn credits, which benifit others on down the line, etc. It would appear these changes may be an attempt to change this game from an economy based to a combat based game.

If you look at SOE as a business, you will understand what I mean. SOE is not here to let you have fun playing without some trade off. Theyexist to make money! After all, they ARE a business.

With the most successful online games being FPS (first person shooters), it only makes sense that they would make an attempt to capture some of this player base. Yes, I know most FPS are free, but just think of what would happen if SOE came up with a formula that would syphon away some of that player base into a pay system? The implications are staggering.

All in all, I don't really think SOE cares much if you or I don't like the changes. These changes are an attempt to increase the subscription base. You must remember that this is the top priority to them, not the fact that we think it will ruin the game for us.

It may be good, it may not. Only time will tell. I'm not very happy with the nerfing of the doc profession, but I don't think there is much we can do about it.
