Originaly I wanted to be a TK/CH/BE. While grinding up that, and dying like the protagonist in a Lovecraft novel, a friend took me to a Doc for my first buff. Suddenly I was a God. I could stay alive long enought to get some actual xp and didn't feel like a little girly-man. I was hooked. I decided that the ability to become a juggernaught must be mine to command. So ended my quest to be a genetic engineer.

On the day I mastered Doc I was broke and had no supplies. I borrowed a set of buffs from a guildie and headed to the coronet starport. I made 500k in two hours. That was the most money I had ever laid my hands on in this game. I was astounded. This lead to my building up a bank-roll and the hellish process of building up enough quality resources for my own factory run. They came out well. Not earth shaking but high quality, buff-worthy product.

Eventually I just got into the role of an actual Doc. I would actually try to serve the community when I could. When hearing the desperate cries of combat nuts begging for a Doc in the house while running through a starport on the way to a hunt I would stop and buff till the crowd died down even though it was boring as heck (didn't really need the money at the time).

Then JTL hit, the starports died down and supplementing my income as a buff-doc just wasn't worth the time. Not a steady enough customer base.

By the time the CU hit I was in the middle of training up my brother and best friend (both of whom had finally decided to try the game) using my Doc skills to keep them buffed and throwing out the occasional heal every hour or so. My Doc skills were largely going to waste.

After the CU (and a suitable period of adjustment) my skills are now needed. I keep my group alive. Before, I was a glorified drug pusher. Now, I am that which sustains.

Not a bad trade-off really.

I am a very novice player and I am onlya fighting level of thriteen and I cant seem to find anyone that is near my level. They are either too high or too low for me to really gain experience. Too high and its very small xp (like 2), too low and its the same as me doing it alone only more liabilities.... I'm at a loss.

Do or do not do, there is no try.
And to show you how the Devs have lied:
"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, ?How can we do this and not make another EQ?? We didn?t want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we?ve created a system to make that happen."

I was typecasted....

Back in the early days, I did it to support my friends. Then I kept it to help my guild and make money. Then I dropped it due to the uber buffs, as sitting around buffing people is sooo boring. As a Doc/BE for over a year, I thought it was time to try combat out, but didn't want to regrind BE and doc was easy to xp in at the time. Then I played Warden on EQ2 which is a healer type to support my friends again.

Now... getting into combat more and want to do more variety of professions so got doc on only 1 toon, but I like the change.

I took doctor because I wanted to heal, I found that doctor was so much more and have been stuck with it ever since.

I did it back pre-cu to supposrt my solo play style. I play add odd hours and did not like the idea of trying to find a doc to play with, so I just made myself one Kept it post-cu for the same reasons.

Mobs will see your level equal to the highest level group member. Your hitpoints and stats won't change but from the viewpoint of the mobs you are level 80. As long as your group is hunting non-aggro mobs like most of the bols on Dantooine then all you need to do is toss a single heal on a hurt player, not fight, and all your earned xp will be medical xp. I've been in groups where the lowest level was a level 1 on Dantooine!

As long as the mobs you're fighting are close to the level of the highest level player in the group you'll earn a lot more than 2xp per kill.

If you're uncomfortable doing that then gain some levels with whatever weapon you're using until you hit level 15, go to Kashyyyk and hunt the little frogs near the bridge right next to Kachiro. Once you gain level 16 you can continue hunting the frogs and you can try the ro-roos. After that you can try the hostile hogs then move on to the banthas and pretty soon you'll find yourself at level 30 or so. Kashyyyk is a low to higher level soloers paradise.

I am a VERY recent doc (I will be finishing my last medic skill to novice doc tonight) and also very recent to the game (a week) and I must tell you that it is a b!tch to be one. That 70,000 xp for healing in combat is killing me, and ruining the game for me. Maybe if I was able to heal in a medcenter I would accept that a little better but I don't have that option. When I chose the profession from the begining I was under the impression I could gain med xp just from healing (not neccesarily in combat) from YOUR stupid rulebook. And that is EXACTLY what I want to do! But I don't have that option now............ I am begging everyone who reads this to advocate for bringing that option that is key to my career back! Please, please, please even if you are not a doctor tell your forums and spread the word! Rally the support of your profession so that ours may be healed, and you will have my eternal gratitude. I am on the Corbantis server and my name on the game is Dipalba Polo. Currently I am training in Coronet on Correlia, so if you need basic healing look me up, though as of yet I can't heal wounds........ hopefully by tonight though I will be!

Find out which planet most folks hang out on, go there, ask to join a group then during fights toss a heal or two after some aggro has been established by the tanks. I went from novice doctor to master in three three hour sessions doing missions on Dantooine.

Thank you Whirr! I will do that. I know a few level 80's. Can you tell me if I will gain as much xp if I heal just once, versus healing more? Thanks again!

exactly the same xp, the thing that effects it is if you fight as well as your xp will be awarded in the proportion of damage done to damage healed (combat xp for the proportion of damage you've done vs medic xp for your heals). So if you don't hit anythign at all but chuck in one heal you'll get a stack of medic xp for your troubles, this also means you can manage the aggro you draw as creatures will go for docs something rotten if you are healing a lot of damage.

Going back to the original question I used to love playing as medic 4440 & healing my group with decent stims, keeping the non-medics alive against high-end content, when the CU hit I lost the ability to heal others with stims & as I inherited an extra toon I thought why not respec to Doc. Playing the doc role in phase 4 at the village is a blast, a real challenge & very rewarding when some poor so & so is lying there dead & contemplating the 6k drive back & you can walk up & rez them!

If anything I find playing the medic role more rewarding now than pre-cu, it's harder & requires a lot more thought (& more strategic use of your various heals) but a lot of fun. I've also had some pretty hefty tips from people I've rezzed without ever asking which is nice.

Eh, I Mastered Doctor post CU to help people. After the CU I went combat medic, they had the ability to range heals which was nice but they couldn't keep me healed effectivly enough as I wanted.

So, post CU I'm back to a Master Doctor. I NEVER tell people in a group I am the doctor and will be the "main healer." I let a Jedi do that. I can't take the agro the heals give me.

So, I'm a doctor now to help me hunt bounties - it's purely a selfish reason - to keep me healed.
