Thread: Would it matter if your Doctor didn't have legs?

I have never buffed people in any city for profit. The only times I have buffed in a NPC city was for guildies or a friend.

Cannot stand the lines, the annoying nOObs and idiots butting in line, I see all the time in Theed or Coronet. I just make the buff packs plus everything else medical .

I have a friend who is a Master Doctor. He's also stopped playing. I asked him why he'd stopped and he said that since buffs make character's so strong, what use is a Doctor to anyone, save to sit in a public area and sell them? He missed the days when he'd run with our group, tending it our every wound while we make some raid upon an enemy. But now, since everyone is buffed, there is little reason to go along. He's not bored. He has plenty of cash, but then again, so does everyone else, and so he could, in theory, sit in a public area without legs, and as long as I brought him resources, he could continue to function just as well.

So, Doctors, what good are you, other than to buff? I'd love to have you along on missions and raids, but isn't your greatest contribution not to be there at all, but simply to buff me? (I have to come up with some reason to get him back in the game.)

What a strange way of putting it btw..

I did it once or twice just to show off some uber packs I had

Thing that drives me nuts is being in the starport and getting tells "Hey come buff me I will pay 50k" etc. If I wanted to buff I would be sitting out with my droid and a line lol

When a Doctor see another Doctor using my packs, they ask, where the heck you get those packs, hehe.

Olek,

I am sorry to say this but your friend is a fool.

Ok, that was harsh but sometimes you need a cold splash of water to wake you up.

From the moment I log in I start getting tells. Not for buffs as the people who know me know I don't buff for cash. They want to know if I will join them on a raid, be in their PvP group shuttle jumping, or join them in DWB or other such high end NPC.

The tells I like most, however, are from new docs wanting to know this or that.

If he wants to help others I suggest going to Mos Eisley or Anchorhead. There are tons of new players there who would love a doc to tag along with them. I often sit there and hand out free low lvl buffs and chat with them.

The best tips I get these days are for 100 cr for the buff or healing that I offered for free.

Your friend needs to learn what it is about the game that they like and play it that way.

Not everybody is interested in PvP and thats a bit of an unfiar sweeping statement.

Yes it's an unfair sweeping statement. But it's true. If you're not playing the GCW with your doctor, you're playing a really dull game. SWG has by far the least challenging PvE of any MMORPG.
The other type of gameplay is crafting and selling things. That can be fun, but it's really not complete unless you use your doctor abilities in a GCW firefight.

I think what happened was that the development team underestimated how far along weapons, armor and buffs would evolve. 90% armor, 500 damage weapons, and 2600 buffs are a far cry from the 15% bone armor, 120 damage weapons, and sub-1000 buffs we used to have.

I agree with you PvE is in a poor state right now, but I think that the oft-delayed combat rebalance will bring a lot more fun into the game for us all.

That's the truth. In regards to your friend not wanting to play, just get him to remember how it was when there weren't many buffs. I buff my guild and I still go out with them just so I can rez, heal, drag, cure disease/poison/states, and yes... dodge bullets.

The GCW is in a sorry state. Back when Faction Bases/HQ's were common, Doctors were in the field constantly...both on offense and defense. Because of the horrible lag in large-scale PvP, and some other glaring issues, bases are extremely rare. They are getting rarer all the time as people pick them up to prevent Jedi Trials players from farming them.

One thing they could do to revitalize Docs is to give them ranged heals. But this is never gonna happen.

I've done both.

Come to Coro during busy server times and try to buff the public. Then tell me what you think.

Public buff docs aren't "bad"... in fact, I think it takes MORE skill to buff in public and keep everyone happy.

Just because the GCW is the end-all be-all of your existence in the game, doesn't mean it needs to be EVERYONE's.

The buffing idea is a great idea. The people who gouge their customers and the customers that whine make that aspectof the game terrible. I don't think SWG intended for buffs to be sold like this. It's all in what the people make of it.

Before, not much. With the NPC specials being put back in, much more useful.
