Thread: Would it matter if your Doctor didn't have legs?

I have a friend who is a Master Doctor. He's also stopped playing. I asked him why he'd stopped and he said that since buffs make character's so strong, what use is a Doctor to anyone, save to sit in a public area and sell them? He missed the days when he'd run with our group, tending it our every wound while we make some raid upon an enemy. But now, since everyone is buffed, there is little reason to go along. He's not bored. He has plenty of cash, but then again, so does everyone else, and so he could, in theory, sit in a public area without legs, and as long as I brought him resources, he could continue to function just as well.

So, Doctors, what good are you, other than to buff? I'd love to have you along on missions and raids, but isn't your greatest contribution not to be there at all, but simply to buff me? (I have to come up with some reason to get him back in the game.)

What happens when you are posioned.. or diseased?

You have to make the game fun.. and yes.. the days of following a small group around Dant are over.. Do some POIs.. PvP.. you simply have to adjust..

But I do agree.. the game is a lot different than it used to be in regards to healing and having people to heal..

I went to Tusken the other day.. and it was depressing...

Bad doctors sit in cities and buff people.

Good doctors participate in large-scale GCW raids, curing, dragging, rezzing, anddodging bullets.

Bad doctors have no need for legs. Good doctors wish they had more than two.

Well, I would say that his problem, then, is not so much the limits of the profession, but the people he's hanging out with. He's not in a guild and neither am I. I don't think I alone could provide him enough entertainment to enjoy his character.lol. If anyone can suggest some guilds that are active in these types of functions and may be in need of a Master Doctor (I believe he's working on Combat Medic as well)?

Thanks

Morvendee, you've just hit the nail on the head. Doctors these days seem to miss the potential of the profession by sitting down and buffing others all day. While grinding Merchant last fall, I was forced out of the combat experience I loved so much and spent 6 dreadful weeks parked in my office outside Coronet starport being everyone's **edit**. Granted, in that span of time, I made almost 10 million credits while charging 6k for random buffs, but it almost made me go postal.

Doctors that participate in the GCW are the happiest Docs in the game, I've found. It is the most satisfying, rewarding and appreciated class in a battle. I've hung onto Doc since July 25th, 2003, combining it with one combat class after another until settling on Swordsman, and I'll never drop it. If you think buffing the masses at Coronet starport is stressful, try chasing that panicky, poisoned player you WANT to hit with a cure poison in the middle of a firefight. Trythe mad dash to drag and rez a fellowcombatant while the enemy is trying to kill you. Priceless.

Dude, you would have a totally different outlook if you took your doctor into the Death Watch Bunker like I have It pushes the limits of your skills as a healer

Not everybody is interested in PvP and thats a bit of an unfiar sweeping statement.

Hats off to SOE. Not many companies could take the best MMO on the market and fu*k it up completely, that takes real skill.

I think what he was trying to say, but I get him. Basically he is saying an active doctor is much better than a buff-bot doctor.

My Doctors are elite support professionals. I support people who are doing elite actions. Due to the changes in NPCs there are few elite PvE situations anymore. People routinely solo NS Elders, Krayts, Gorax, etc... (Myself Included) with a single melee mastery. The oportunities for satisfaction outside of PvP are slimmer than they used to be. I should mention that any smart PvE group will include a Doctor they make everyone better if played correctly.

Places my services are sought after regularly:

Death Watch Bunker - I'm on the list of Doctors willing to go in. I go once a week.
Corellian Corvette - The need for a smart equiped Doctor is always welcomed.
Advanced Planets - People get themselves into trouble. I make sure I'm searchable and always attempt to help. (Now with so many Jedi I get that many more paniced tells.)
Kimolinga Hunts - Disease is a nasty thing.

Other than that it's all PvP.

I like my legs... admittedly, they are a bit hairy but hey, I'm a Wookie

Honestly though, i totally agree with the others: Your character is what you make of it.

As a Master Doctor/Swordsman you may be tougher than many things out there, but there still remainsome challanges for PVE let alone those of assisting PVP ( boy, never been killed that quickly by any mob)

Besides If you find buffed combat boring, nobody is forcing anybody to fight buffed...

That would be like attending the bull run in Pamplona in an Abrams tank and complaining to the hosts that the bulls are so weak...

Yes it's an unfair sweeping statement. But it's true. If you're not playing the GCW with your doctor, you're playing a really dull game. SWG has by far the least challenging PvE of any MMORPG.

The other type of gameplay is crafting and selling things. That can be fun, but it's really not complete unless you use your doctor abilities in a GCW firefight.

This statement is true even for PvE because not EVERYONE has the typical uber template that makes them almost invulnerable and lets them do everything. I've found my healing limits pushed even in places like the Geonosian caves.

I think post-combat rebalance us doctors are going to be in more demand for our healing than we are now
