im a doctor and i say i understand the people who heal for free, sure it costs money to craft but you DO get exp for it and more exp for actually healing wounds

as for master doctors and whatnot, they should demand money, youve put your time in you can heal faster than anyone you should get the big /tips

I keep track of those that dont /tip. If they won't throw their thanks out to me I wont bother to even check their status anymore when I run thru the med centers. Think I might switch to a full spread sheet just to keep track of all the unappreciative people out there.

I frequently use wound healing as a marketing stradegy. When I see someone pass near myshop with wounds I invite them in to get healed up and take a look at my vendor. I've made a number of sales using this technique the past 4 days. They'll buy crates of stimpacks, or one of my harvestors or furniture.

And yes, I love that diagnose allows me to determine if I want to use wound kit B's or A's... don't typically use higher than that on anyone. I can get about 100 + heals with the basic B's I make in my factory and my skill of expert wound treatment so they get taken care of in a decent amount of time and they have some time to browse

But I can see people that hang in med centers feeling tips are appropriate from the patients that come to see them. My patients typically have to come to me, unless I'm in town getting training from one of the med center doctors. (and I always tip at least 500 for training)

Yep, thats me and ya know what, I get tipped anyway and make a friend from it. Just yesterday I happend to be in the med center healing up when a god awful patient came in. He was obviously brand spanking new and he was the blackest mess I have ever seen. I said gosh Im going to have to go buy some d's or c's to heal you. However I doubt if any are at the bazaar butt i will check. Low and behold a bunch of d wound packs and only 400cr a piece. I healed him up and blammo he was happy as a clam. However, no tip from him. He simply was too new. However I fell into not only d wound packs but also d enhances at only $350 a pack. I quickly bought them all..

The moral of the story? It seems for me that it always comes back. I do it expecting nothing and one way or another I receive credits or I fall into a good opportunity... I'm staying with my present formula...

While I no longer heal for free I don't mind those who do. As a Master Doctor I don't need the xp. However if I were to heal for free or just do it out of the goodness of my heart I'd be sucking all the xp out of the medical center and away from those who do need the xp.

Oh and Master Docs, see about advertising what kind of enchancements you can do, how long they last, and what you charge for them. Its another good way to get money and also leaves the healing to those who don't want money for it.

I don't force anyone to pay me for healing. I use diagnose, and tell them that the fee for my fast and efficient healing is 1 credit/wound point. I also point out to them that they are welcome to heal slowly in a camp, or let the regular medical staff in the hospital heal them (again, slowly). Some will gladly pay. Others will not. Either is fine by me.

I don't feel all medics/doctors should, or have to charge. Its a personal decision. There is no pressure in this for me.

To me, the best thing about /diagnose is no more of this:

Patient: I have a lot of strength wounds, can you heal that?

Me: Sure. (Uses trusty Strength woundpak C)

You heal Patient's strength for 6.

Me: *curses moron under my breath*

I am about halfway to master Doctor, I have never forced anyone to pay me. The only time I request payment is when the person is a jerk. One thing I hate more than anything else is, I will be healing someone and someone else will come in, DEMANDING to be healed, and will not shut up about it. That is the only time I really ask for a payment.

And since I am ranting about this already, my wound packs are pretty powerful now, as most doctor's are. I try to explain to people that if they only have 5wound dmg to a stat that its really not worth it for me to heal it, and I let the Medics handle it.

The only other thing I do require from people is the common curtosy to say Thank you! Drives me nuts to heal someone to full, and not even get a "Thanks Doc." in return

ok /rant off

Well, in regards to the original poster of this article. . . Diagnose does make billing easier, if you want to charge in proportion to the wounds a person has. . . but not necessary. You can make a pretty good 'guestimate' by looking at the person's HAM as to how much wounds they have.

I used to give people a price for treatment, based on such guesstimates and it usually turned out to be pretty accurate. Basically I did the following: Assume that their longest HAM bar is approximately 1000 points. Look at the lengths of the other bar(s), and approximate how many points they have in the other pool. Estimate what ratio of their bars is black/wounded (e.g. if their longest bar is 1/4 black, they have approximately 250 +/- 50 points in that bar). If both Health and Action have about 250 damage, then their secondary stats usually have about 100-150 damage (sometimes though they have a lot more secondary damage, so diag is very usefull there).

For that amount of damage, I used to ask people for about 500 creds. Yes, it's not precise, but the point is, the original poster acted like there was no way to come up with a reasonable bill for treatment before Diag came in. Yes, Diag makes it much more precise (I'm quite enjoying diag), but point is, if you wanted to charge for treatment, the lack of diag before this wasn't stopping you.
