Aftera lengthy 12person groupexcursion thru the beautiful flower strewn fields of southern Dantooine, the Doctor makesa casual sweep thru her hometown Medical Center before heading home. "Alas, there are wounded here" she exclaims in a soft weary voice.

As she walks up the a patient laying upon a bed, she begins to /diagnose the battle scarred Scout."Ahhh, what damage do we havehere", she whispersas she studies what wounds he has accumilated.

Wounds

Health 540

Strength 320

Constitution 275

Action 490

Stamina 215

Quickness 305

Mind 490

Focus 290

Willpower 180

"OK Sire, according to my diagnosis you have a total of 2145 wound points that I can cure for you with various types of medicines" she replies softly. "This would be a medical bill of 2145c either payable by credits or bartering resources, which would you prefer?" she inquires.

He lifts his head slightly, due to the pain he is in and mumbles he has 1000c he can part with for her services and a few hundred Avian meats he has hunted this evening. The Doctor raises her eyebrows at the mention of the coveted Avian meats so needed to construct her Enhancement Packs and asks excitedly "how many Avian meats have you stored away?" After a moment, he replies "575 total".

"Brave Scout", she exclaims, "For exchange of those Avian meats, my healing bill will paid in full!" She further adds, "Doctor's need Avian and Herbivore meats for the medicines we make to heal and enhance with, and love exchanging services for supplies".

With that agreed upon, she heals up the Scout and scoots him off the the Cantina for some rest and relaxation after he pays her with the supplies.

Disclaimer:

As you can see, /diagnose is the perfect way to calculate a bill for your services. The rest of the story was just to show that in lieu of hard credits, bartering works also. Now I know some will say "well, thats in a perfect world and setting" which usually is not the case in some MC's, as they tend to be chaotic at times. (I simply leave in those cases) But this is my story and if you have one to tell, write it.

For every person who charges like that there will be someone who does it expecting nothing or very little.

That's a nice story, but perhaps you'd like to hear my little non-fiction narrative.

Tard: "HEAL ME"

Me: /diagnose

Me: Hmmm, you're hurt pretty badly, This will require very expensive treatment. We're looking at 1000c for a full heal

Tard: **edit**YOU **edit** **edit** **edit** IAIN'T PAYING**edit** **edit**YOU**edit** **edit** **edit** **edit** **edit** **edit** **edit** THE**edit****edit** **edit** AND THE HORSE YOU RODE IN ON.

This activity of course attracts other medics, who then heal the tard. (why? I don't know).

End of story.

I do like /diagnose, But I'm not getting paid any more since I got it.

I have not changed my attitude towards tips from patients.

I have never and will probably never outright demand payment for my services.

However I do remind all patients I heal with a friendly macro where I proclaim that they are healed and ask them to go to the billing department (all active citizens of Bestine on Sunrunner have probably heard it by now)all in jest ofcourse since we do not have a system other then honor for it. And as I said, I would probably not use it to specifically bill my patients.

I, as a master doctor do get some reasonable tips that lets me keep up my work by keeping my harvesters running to supply me with what I need to keep the Bestinians healthy to my best ability.

The introduction of the /diagnose has affected me in other ways though, on the economic side of things, letting me not misuse my higher lvl woundpacks as much as I previously did.

We all have cringed at the use of a C woundpack charge to heal a 3 point Stamina wound right?

With the arrival of the /diagnose (not a day too late) I can now better choose the correct lvl medpack for the wound and this way save me a lot of resources, I even started using the /tendwound command again for those last sub 20 wounds when finishing up a patient.

That's great! I never really thought of doing that. There are times and places where I COULD charge for my services like that. (I'm on Talus and there's rarely another healer of ANY kind in town) Now will I? Probably not unitl I go much farther up the doctor tree. Right now I'm not much better than a Master Medic.

It's all about supply and demand. For me I'm in high demand areas with low supply, so I can charge. Others (as mentioned above in the colorful post) are high supply and lower demand. So there you go...

I'm also one of those doctors that does not ever demand payment for services rendered. No matter where I am. It's just how I play. And yes, I love the /diagnose command. It helps save medicine.

I don't demand payment.. then again, i don't normally spend time in hospitals wasting my resources on people I don't know.

Instead of directly asking for payment, Ihave found it's better to say"I can't afford to heal you for free". That is non-confrontational and the patient knows they must respond with an offer or miss out.

What boggles me I play neither a healer or entertainer btw. Is that people expect this healing for free or dont even tip. I just dont get that mentality at all. Its going to serve people right if all the healers pick up and go do something else while they sit in cantina pissed because they got heavy mind wounds or in the medical center because they have health wounds.

This post reminds me of that one credit card commercial where the patient is waiting on the operating table, surrounded by doctors and nurses anxiously looking at the guy sliding the credit card through the machine...Approved! The music starts, and the med staff gets to work.

Being a master doctor, i use diagnose to tell if its worth the time for me to heal someone. (i leave the "scratches" for the medics to heal) its also nice to use if the medics missed some wounds on the guy.

shame on all who charge for heals. need money, sell meds, use those extra skill points for some fighting profession and do missions.

God heals for free, The Devil created HMO's hehe
