Thread: Doctors should go on strike...
You get alot more xp healing dancers in the cantina or find 3 or more people sampling in the same area
Wound heals are the same xp as damage heal but have a 20 second delay (or so)
The only way to get guaranteed a payment, is to make that expectation clear up front.
When I walk into a MC (Mainly to buff myself. hehe), I have a macro that something to the effect of :
" I am a Master Dr. for Hire. I use only the best experimented Wound E kits, and will completely heal all your wounds in under 2 min, for a flat fee of 3000 credits, paid in advance. If you are interested in my services, please send me a /tell".
Do I get a lot of customers? No (but I RARELY go into a MC anymore. heh), but then again, I have no need for XP, and the hippocratic oath doesn't apply in the game. If people want to heal for free, fine. If they want to sit for an hour and not pay, fine. I went to flat fee because with my base 500+ heal kits, I usually only have to use one use per stat. We must remember and drive the point home that we are crafters, and kits cost money and time. There will always be fledgling medics healing for free in the MC, and that's great, but if someone wants to heal black-bars and go hunting, 3k isn't much to spend.
You have to be prepared to walk out if no one pays. It's tough, but as many people said, XP in med centers, especially for novice Dr.s, stinks compared to a combat group.

I think doctors should either do it for free (for xp) and accept tipping or not.... or just charge for it.
When a crafter is working on grinding through stuff for xp gain we dont stand around handing out the stuff, we destroy it (or use practice mode more likely). When I am making stuff for people we negotiate a price and trade. I don't hand out weapons for free hoping for a tip.
I ALWAYS tip when getting healed.... yesterday I stood around for 40 minutes asking for heals and nobody even responded to me. I asked nicely many times. I might as well been speaking gibberish as much as anybody said to me (nothing). 40 minutes was enough sitting to get caught up on the wounds I had.... but it miffs me that nobody would heal me even though I would tip and always have. I tip fairly well, but I don't think the doctors that hang out even pay attention or don't care or remember me. I just started the game and usually have about 400cr to my name (especially now that missions don't pay well), but I still try to tip as much as I can (and wind back up at 400cr lol).
If you don't want to heal people because you won't get paid, announce ahead that you heal 5cr per wound or something. I would glady pay to not have to follow medics around for hours begging heals off them.
Just quit complaining that you don't get paid if you don't ask for it. Many people DON'T understand how things are supposed to work and punishing all of us who do pay is really ticking me. If everyone quits healing... the whining will escalate to the point that they will put in NPC healers and I would hate that. I like having services/goods not readlily available from a computer, but if the only way to get healed is gone.....
I am working twards Master Doctor.
I go into hospitals not to make money, but to get XP. Fastest way to do that is through using stims.
I don't expect people to tip me, nor do I ask for it, since I can make the 3k that it takes to buy 1k of good organics in a single mission run on corellia. So, when I go into a hospital with some stim packs, and leave with 1k in my pocket, it's a nice bonus....but it's just that, a bonus for being helpfull.
The real reward comes from xp. If you're there just to make tips, theres many more ways to make cash quicker.
Now the "complaining" that I was referring to wasn't specifically referring to you, just all the posts that keep popping up about clients that get healed and waltz out without ever a word/tip/etc. And I agree that this IS wrong, but 99.5% of them probably don't even know how to find these boards.
The main point of my post is that I feel you should charge for services. Like has been brought up, diagnosis tells you what you have to fix before you start... so it should be close to a known quantity.
My ideal world would be I walk in and ask for healing. A doc comes by and says "My oh my what have you been fighting? I'm gonna have to do some serious work, especially on that arm. It will be 1030cr, do you still want healing?" If you walked into a doctors office asking for stitches, they aren't doing them until you agree to pay (or have some other entity be responsible).
As for SW roleplaying, I would vision 2 or 3 different kinds of roles in that universe. Medics at bases that are sponsored by the base/city/etc, field medics and medics for hire.
Another interesting solution to a lot of this could be if wounds healed in medical centers gave credit rewards directly to the doc as payment. Sorta like if the doctor was an employee of the clinic and the patients are citizens (ah, socialism... heh).
Woundkit b's cost about 216c at 3/c resource. So 216/~21= 10.29c per woundkit charge used. So thats one way to charge somone.

Well, lets just say you are in a very small minority that do tip. And most people that I ask up front payment front are insulted that I'd ask to be paid. When I point out that I don't need the xp anymore, they usually just say they'll wait for someone who does. Hence, I'd estimate I spend about an average of 2 minutes per hour of play time in the med center healing. If/when the volume of newb medics decreases enough that the combat classes wound needs greatly exceed their healing capacity, that will be interesting.
I agree that the combat classes need us FAR more than we need them -- injured people are not in short supply. I'm also not surprised that they call us greedy, griefers, exploiters, or dirty names when we refuse to provide free heals. Without a secure trade interface we have tremendous potential for abuse. We can be paid without ever providing a service, and what is the other person going to do? Find another doc, sure -- but we don't have to give the money back. I'm surprised, really, that the abuse is going all the other way right now.
I also agree that making a strike effective is impossible in a game context. We can't bar the door of the med center and we can't keep out scabs; we can't even stop surgical droids from healing in the street.
Last night I tried something that worked pretty well. I didn't say a word to anybody as he came in. Patients came in and found a bed, and waited quietly, while I sat with my doctor tag on, diagnosing injuries one person at a time. Eventually, I would get tipped up front without having to ask for money, then I would begin healing. I use the good stuff, too, so they weren't disappointed. Sure, it might be passive-aggressive, but I won't beg anybody for tips, and I don't need the XP. I'll admit it ... I *am* in it for the money. Don't like it? Tough -- and don't behypocrites, fighters, because you're in this for personal gain, too. When I can no longer run two missions for 3200 credits, money is my yardstick. Money feeds my healer habit.
Now that we can register our presence at a med center -- not just declare it Open, but register individually at a location -- I get the feeling like an in-hospital salary or payment schedule can now be implemented. I'm not sure what form it will take, but face it: the game knows when you're in the med center doing a heal, because the healpower gets a boost. It knows when you're registered in a med center, because the registration wears off when you walk out the door. How much farther is it before we see a pay-per-wound box at the gate?
(DocSavage enters the hospital and sets the price at 22 credits for 10 wounds, followed by NurseRatchett. WookieeBalboa goes up to hospital with 450 wounds and deposits 990 credits. DocSavage heals the Wookiee for 320 wounds and is automatically paid 704 credits. NurseRatchett heals for 100 wounds and is paid 220 credits. The doctor and nurse log off. WookieeBalboa, not completely healed, leaves the med center with 30 wounds unhealed. Before he leaves, he takes his balance of 66 credits out of the terminal. KingKLONG walks into the hospital with a half-dead 8K HAM pet and pays 8,800 credits up front before getting in the door, which he can reclaim later, because there are no doctors on-staff.)
Hey, I can dream, can't I?
