Thread: A lil upset over Resource Prices

From what I"ve seen it has gone like this:

In the beginning 10-30cpu for any quality meat was pretty standard fare since not much was really used...more stim production than buff production. Eventually people started to understand buffs and the demand went up. To compete against a growing doctor community the older (read: rich) doctors started increasing prices paid for meats. This set a precedent that continues in the harvesting community. Doctors saw this and raised their prices because they now pay more for the same product and passed the price onto the non-crafting doctors. These doctors in turn raised their prices to compensate. Crafting docs think "They're charging 10k a buff now...hmmm...they're making alot more than they used to per charge, that's not right, I should raise the price" Now it's 12k/buff, scouts/rangers see this, think "rich doctors, they can afford it" and up their prices...

rinse

repeat

**edit**

There was once a great post on here about how rangers can actually make more per hour than a doctor...if someone wants to dredge that back up that'd be great. It was pretty good and took into account the downtime of just sitting there waiting for factories and found that a dedicated ranger could easily outpace a doctor.

Kofie, you're right, but there are many more moving parts than the two you describe. People figured out how to "solo group". People figured out how to swap lots and they learned what resources were uber,so you had resource gatherers accumulating millions of units of inorganics that could be sold for 10+ cpu. Then the prices for rare loot and uber weapons skyrocketed. It's not just meat and buffs. Once you have one group of players who can throw around tens of millions of credits on this or that, then everyone is going to want tens of millions of credits.

Ya, I did kinda simplify things. You're right that it is a bit of envy in the playerbase + lots of varying factors that I"m sure vary server to server (like credit dupes which thankfully Tempest didn't have or at least wasn't widespread).

3. Find a Stocked Vendor that sells for low CPU but have to buy like 100000 units. (yet to see a vendor with Meat like that)

I just want to comment on this one. My main source of income is selling quality flora to docs and chefs for 4 to 10 cpu. I only stock in 100K stacks (though I am happy to split stacks if someone requests it). It's not that I really want to limit purchases to only the big buyers - it's because it is simply too painful forme to stock in smaller stacks. First I have to split the stacks. Then I have to list the stacks individually. Then someone comes along and buys my 5 stacks of 20K instead of the stack of 100K that is listed right under it (aargh!). Then I have to deal with more stacks if the resource doesn't sell in 30 days. Small stacks just aren't worth it for me.

As a merchant, I would love to see the ability to put a full stack or full crate on sale and set a per unit price and let the buyer decide how many they wanted. But until we get that, I'm stocking stimpacks in crates of 50 and resources in stacks of 100K. If a customer wants something else, they'll have to email me and make a second trip. It's the only way I can put up with the drudgery of handling vendors.

I was a Ranger for a while but decided I needed to kill bigthings so ended up dropping it. While a ranger, I was a hunter for hire for but you can kill bunnines and song birds for so long before you decide you want a real fight. Made my first million over two months selling meats and hides. Made my second million in the span of a week running missions grinding out a better fighter. Now that I have a real fighter (sorry no room for scout now), I can get a miilion a day if I want.Gathering avian and herb isn't fun for long once you see how others make thier money. Not much chance of getting a nice DOT weapon or Janta Blood from the loot off a runtypharple.

try this:

You will have better luck gathering resources if you go to Mos Eisley and get a bunch of newbs together. If you pay for their travel tickets and buff them and show them a few things, you can get a huge pile of meat and have a good time with new players at the same time. Get 5 or 6 that are running around with their newb clothes and shiny green droids and survival knives. Get them all to pick up scout and get them a real weapon or two off the bazaar. Once you have a meat choice in mind, tell them what the plan is and if possible run all your missions from a big player city. That way they can get all the required training because they are going to move up a lot over the run of a buff session. If you pay for all the travel and the training, most new players will gladly help you out just to learn the game a bit. If you are in a guild this would be a fantastic recruting method.

The more newbs you gather up, the more meat you get. Imagine getting 100+ meat from each song rasp. You will have to explain a lot of things but oh well. You can probably get them to do a few missions on their own after you show them the ropes and offer a fair CPU for their effort.

Hehe, I gave the first doc that helped me out 1k of the top spawn avian just for a couple buffs and some advice.

Help a newb and get cheap meat.

*note- this methode will not work when the meat you are looking for is Dath carnivor. hehe
