First of all, if doc is so boring, why the heck did you go for it? Money, that's all. Buffbots and macros aren't 'playing the game'. As far as I'm concerned, if you spent the time and money to become Doc, then play doc, don't let some script do it for you.
Secondly, advertising a buff bot that undercuts every working doc on the server is totally uncool. I charge 10k usually, unless it's a really high buff stat, so advertising 8k is just plain wrong. Why would people come to me for a buff, when they can fly to a buffbot and get it cheaper? Not good, and unfair to those of us who actually play the game.
Thirdly, there's so many problems with buffbots. For example, what if you crash in the middle of a buff, your macro screws up (they frequently do, even carefully crafted ones), or a player you're buffing crashes? I've watched Eclipse's lone buffbot get hammered every night for a refund, but since nobody is actually at that computer, the guy who lost half his buff is out 12-15k, depending on what the bot is charging. There's too many variables to make a macro foolproof.
Finally, most guilds don't charge guildies for buffs, or if they do, it's cost only. Making a profit off your guildies and friends is dumb. Sure, I'll take a tip if they want, but my guild knows I'll buff them for free now. Was half-price for awhile, while I was building up some money, but free now.
Dude, if you hate doc so much, then give it up, become another profession. I know on Eclipse we have a shortage of docs to do not only buffs, but healing as well. Unless you're TKM, a buffbot ain't gonna do you any good for wound heals.
I'll be glad when they nerf the bot macros, there's no need for them, they hurt the game economy, and hurt other players that might not have guild docs, might have to play at 2am when there's nobody else on, or just want a heal, not a buff. PLAY DOC, don't let the game do it for you, that's lame.

It occurs to me that you didn't read the entire post, nor the rest of Pavo's posts.... Otherwise you would have noticed the mention of only ADK buffing while Pavo is asleep. There is no mention whatsoever of hating being a Doctor. You make a bold assumption that the only reason to be MD is for money. You're clearly just ranting, and not really assimilation what has transpired in this post.

I am also working on MD, and not for money. I'm in a guild, and being able to buff and heal guildmates is a nice addition to my fencer.

It's funny you mention folks who "might have to play at 2am" Have you been on at that hour, and always been successful in finding an ATK MD? I have played in the wee hours, and MD's get harder and harder to find. If someone wants a heal, they don't go to an AFK Doc, because it's not part of the macro. However, if the person running that toon is asleep, they wouldn't be able to get the buffs, much less heals, if not for AFK buffing. Plus, they can settle for a medic for heals.

Apparently your server is short of MDs. As a grinder, you would certainly appreciate AFK buffers, who otherwise wouldn't be online, when you need a buff and no ATKers are available. In response to your comment "PLAY DOC," again, try reading everything before you post. Pavo already said it's only when not actually sitting at the desk.

The worst thing for a forum and conversation/discussion is ranters who don't take the time to read and understand before posting. It's ok to disagree with someone, but not when you haven't gathered all the facts first. Then you're just a griefer.

Isn't the logical conclusion to this however that one should not use a crafting macro, but do it all manually? Med XP, should we not use any of the tumbling macros as well, but rather simply walk around towns and heal anyone we can find? Not saying we should or shouldn't, however many, many docs use macros to some degree.

Ok, dumb question, but how do you quote on this forum? I can't find a button for it..............

Anyway, as far as tumbling macros, sure, I used one, but only when I was actually online, and talking to people. Heck, I was in the med center, people expected heals. Hard to do when you're just a macro. Crafting is also different, as I'm not aware of any macro that allows you to place resources in your crafting tool. The macro saves a bit of time, sure, but you still have to be actively using it. That's two different situations....one, a crafting macro is usually done either at your house, or at a crafting station, you can AFK from there, nobody's expecting you to heal them. Tumbling.......I never tumbled, like I said, but when I was building XP I'd use a macro to save my fingers. Easy enough to cancel if somebody needed a heal. Nothing was more irritating, when I wasn't a doc, than going into the med center for heals, and finding that the only docs available were off at work, sleeping, or otherwise not at their computer. As far as I'm concerned, if you're online, and your character is visible, you oughta be right there with it.

On the other hand, a buffbot requires no outside assistance, can run for days at a time, and, really, is only good for building up money without actually working for it.

I mean, if I wanted to let a macro do all my work for me, I'd ditch SWG, and just run something worthwhile, like D2OL, and let a macro find a cure for cancer. And, that's free........I can't imagine paying $15 a month to let a game play for me......that's just plain wasteful. Send the money to me, instead.

I8Theworm, um......yeah, I was responding to Pavo's post, and to the post of a doc advertising his bot. If I didn't make that clear, I apologize. If you had to press me, a buffbot for your guild, and your guild members only, would be alright, as long as you didn't advertise it to the forum, or send a shout where other docs are actively buffing in port. My post was about docs like a couple on Eclipse ,and I'm sure on other servers, that set up in starports, expect full payment, and aren't even there........the excuse being 'man, Doc is boring, I hate it, but the money is good, so I'll just make a macro and get the money for doing nothing'.

I'm not even a fan of using a buff macro while I'm actively there, it's too easy to mess up, it doesn't allow for heals, and generally is a pain in thebuttto write. I'd prefer to hit 6 little buttons every 20 seconds, joke with the customer, and move on to the next, it's much easier, more rewarding, and people don't hate your lines.

I get lost when people don't hit the Quote Post button.... my apologies. I can only see that button, by the way, when I use FireFox, and not in IE.

I think most people prefer an ATK doc, but sometimes they're nowhere to be found. In that case, there are player med centers and houses set up for buffing, with a fee to get in (what Pavo does when not ATK). Like you, I don't like the idea of someone setting up a buffbot outside/inside the starport in Coronet either, so I avoid them like the plague. Also, the buffbots set up in player buildings typically charge less, but because they don't have access to recharge their droid, so there's a chance the buffs might not be great anyway.

My point is I believe there is room in the game for buffbots when used "properly" (for lack of a better word) i.e. when they're not intended to take business away from MD's who are actively buffing ATK. A good example happened this morning.. I was on Dant (good luck ever finding an MD on Dant on Valcyn) and lost my buffs. There is a known buffbot right there on the planet, and I used his services (2200ish on the buffs) rather than make the shuttle, then spaceship trip back to Coronet. At 5:30 am, it was likely I wouldn't find a doc there at all anyway.

Actually when you hit reply there is a toolbar above your window. One of the icons is a word balloon with two quotes in it. Click it and you're in business...however you may want to delete all the excess and quote only what you're responding to.

My bad, I thought you said you couldn't wait until they nerf macros, but you actually said buff bots, which is much more specific...

I became a doctor to buff myself and my friendsand to be able to heal states. The only part of the doc profession that I find boring is sitting in a starport buffing people. It's repetative, it's not fun for me, which is why I don't do it.

Ahhhhh That's where it is. Most forums have a "quote" button on the particular post you're responding to, SWG hides theirs......

Thanks. I was going nuts looking for the quote button.

I spent 6 months on bria mastering doctor without any help from a macro.

I did the same thing on starsider in under a week.

I would have done another 6month stint on starsider if I had not already mastered the profession before. I think at least the first time you should have fun with your character and not simply powergrind to be done. I would also like to point out that you can do doctor in under a week without a macro. All you do is have a CM poison your alt or friend, and heal them the same way you would using a tumblebot.

where's the fun in that?????

I mastered doc twice - was my first profession, gave it up for the hologrind, then went back to it many months ago. Both times without macros. I'm a doc because I like the community aspect of the game which is why I don't especially like buffbots. However, I do understand that many times those are the only buffs available so it's a necessary evil. But I like have a few people in a line to make fun of while I'm buffing ( and I always have a full set of meds and try to heal everyone).
