Thread: Cybernetics?

My guess is that it'll be some ultra rare loot from a new near-impossible dungeon. And when all is said and done, it will have no practical use. I hope this to be untrue, but you know the old saying "Hope for the best, expect the worst."

It would be pretty bad for game immersion if everybody was running around with cybernetic arms and legs and if they are easily craftable this seems likely because they've said they will give benifits. I'd like to see them craftable (there is no reason why they shouldnt be from a logical point of view) however they need to give advantages to some things and disadvatages to others so that people wont all be running around with them on.

I agree also. Just imagine everyone running around with cybernetic parts looking like RoboCop or a Borg (resistance is futile!). Plus in the Star Wars films, don't they only give you a cybernetic part if your original limb got cut off? (Luke's hand or Anakin's forearm). It's not like "Hey doc, I want this shiny new leg that gives a +10 bonus to burst run speed so just cut off my perfectly fine leg and throw it away. I want to become a Cyborg!" Speaking of which, I wonder if we'll be able to remove the cybernetic parts after getting them installed and if so, how funny it would be to see your original limb just reappear in place...LOL

The IGN article did say you'd be able to remove them at any time and regain your old limbs... going by the way it's written I'd simply say it's a crafted item (DE most likely) that the end user just "equips".

Well given they give boosts, I don't think it would or should be as simple as that. Just like you can't stat migrate in the field, it may require you to be in a Med Center or Salon to have them placed.

I agree with masternerfslayer. The IGN article definately gave the impresion that the user just has to "equip" the cybernetic limb which I have to say I'm not too happy about.

Hm........interesting.

I'd like to see it go one of two ways:

1. If it's external, and equip-able, then Droid Engineers to make it, ID to customize it, and the player to equip it, but make it limited so it HAS to be placed either in a camp, hospital, or city, just like droids and vehicles used to be. Also make them difficult to make, require repair frequently, and lose effectiveness over time, just like armor or weapons. Basically, make them like uber-weapons. You have to be at a certain skill level to use them, and they're rare and expensive, so you won't see novice brawlers running around smacking Meatlumps with them. This way, too, scouts would see the most out of, say, a +10 max speed leg, while a marksman would actually slow down trying to use it.

2. If it's internal, then the parts should be made by a Droid engineer, taken to an ID for assembly, then implanted by a Doc. In this case, effectiveness would be then controlled by the player. Stronger players would get more of a boost, while beginners wouldn't see any improvement, or even a degredation of effectiveness, same as weapons. If you give up a skill, then the effectiveness of the implant drops as well. In this case, though, the implant would be "healed" with your body, so no repairs beyond the usual wound heals.
