I've compromised a bit and keep my "Field Surgeon" title up all the time now. This lets people who desperately need a rez or disease heals find me, but avoids most of the "R U buffing?" tells. Further, when I tell those few that I'm not buffing, they always leave me alone immediately. It's been a good solution for me.

I do miss the old days of hanging around the med center with a few other docs and tending the constant gradual stream of patients who were grateful for the help. Things have changed. When buffs get nerfed, they might return to the way they were, or they might not.

Today I heard a comment that gives people the right (somewhat) to have an attitude towards us.

Someone asked a Novice Doc for heals (he had wounds).. and to my amazement, the novice doc replied.

"I'm only healing tumblers"

I was floored.. I think it really shows how downhill doctors and customers have gone. I mastered doc about 3 months after release, and we used to group up and chat between waves of people. We would talk to the patients. We would goof off.. being a doctor used to be fun... I miss the good old days when no one would ever be told "I'm only healing tumblers"

. So while waiting around on dantooine, I get several tells asking for buffs (as usual since I earned my master doc title and am not going to take it down just because I am not buffing) and politely inform people that if they would like a buff it would cost them 60k.

well i do understand that you are proud of your tag etc, but as i posted in the "strike" thread, the way it is, is that if you got your tag up, players will expect you to be willing to buff. Like it or not, that is reality, and no amount of discusing it here, will change that.

i usualy keep my tag off now, why put myself in a situation i know will happen? if you go to any main SP like theed, dant, cnet, with your tag on, and are not obviously going somewhere, you WILL get a tell. I am not saying you dont have the right to ask for 60K - you can ask for what you want , but dont be so surprised you got tells.

this is not an easy dilema. i wish we has a double tag- Master Doctor and Master Buffer or something hehe, this way it will be clear to players who is bufing and who is not.

I can understand you don't like players think you owe them buffs but at the same time you have to think of why you became a Doctor. Did you become a Doctor to only do heals or just to buff yourself? Maybe you really just wanted the ability to buff yourself. In any case, you chose the profession for a reason. It seems a bit hypocritical that you would refuse to hide your Master Doctor tag yet you refuse to use your abilities to help other players unless they are willing to be gouged in their pocketbooks.

I became a Doctor because I wanted to heal. I never really used enhances until after the 2nd month of release as they were extremely crappy to make and find resources for. Yet even now I still keep my price at 10k for buffs despite the fact I can charge what I want. I provide a service to my fellow players and I make at a minimum 100% return profit on my investment since I make my own packs.

If you choose to charge a higher than normal price and a player is willing to pay it then so be it. However you can't expect every player to kowtow to your demands. If someone doesn't want to pay then politely ask them to go away or just put them on ignore.

Would you have become a Doctor if we had never been given our buffing abilities? What will you do when they nerf buffs?

Quite frankly, I pay my $$$ every month like everyone else. If I became a Master Doc because I thought I looked good in white but have no interest in buffing or healing, then that's my perogative.

Only one person can tell me how to play a game or my character ... and that's ME.

Anyone else can bugger off. Unless of course you want to start paying my monthly subscription.

You right, reason is a better word to use then right.. At any rate, it got my word accross, and you approved it

Ah... it's cool. Just that words influence thoughts and so getting theterms right help lead to better comprehension.

As for the second half, all the people I knew that were like that are gone.. They either dropped the profession, changed server, made new characters or quit the game. And I could join a city or guild, but I like the freedom of just going wherever, I tried it twice and didn't like it... which I suppose doesn't give me much right (or is it reason? ) to complain.. I suppose I just miss the old days.

I feel your pain but that's also part of the game, to make choices. If you like moving around by yourself, it's still ok to join a guild that doesn't style itself an uber PvP guild or are filled with mostly hardcore gamers. There are city-guilds like mine that have a very laid back, fun-focused style. Sure, the attrition rate can be high because they are mostly casual gamers, but there will always be the core few who will grow into the group and also new players joining in with fresh ideas and enthusiasm.

For example, we have "pest-bustas"that patrol the city outskirts (we're on Corellia) killing the lower-level creatures there and role-playing as service providers at the same time. Mostly filled with new players straight from Tatooine and led by the chief busta (a former new player who coined the term), they come to my doc character for free medical services before heading out on their expeditions around the city. I also have my guildchat channel on so that I can see any screams for help orrezes (this character is usuallyinthe city crafting or stocking the vendors). It's quite hilarious to monitor the guildchat channel and on the few occasions that we organise a trip to Dantooine or Lok, the "Ooo's and ahhh's" make it all worthwhile.

The old days are not over yet. A little work needed thoughbut still very possible. Don't give up.

If you would generalise a little less, you wouldn't have to worry about flames that much. If you insist on lumping the entire doc community together and labelling them then you can expect that not all will take it sitting down.

And for all the flames that will follow .... you prolly are the worst ofendors ....

And if you read my post, you are totally agreeing with me! LOL. Nice try though.

I agree, I am also greatly dissapointed in peoples attitude towards docs and I also have my MD tag up all the time as well as not buffing the public. I am also greatly disapointed with the CM nerf. Well, I can deal with the nerf, but the attitudes of my fellow doctors just topped it off. Hey SNS,
I skim the boards cuz I'd rather be playing, I either missed your post or didnt see who wrote it. I kept it generalised cuz I didnt wanna make it a flame on any one or few people but more of a type.

I am both MCM and MD so my main offence and defence was toned down but on the other hand got new meds.... so I was torn. Some people tend to speak before thinking things through .... those that support the nerf bat and are happy about a nerf will yell the loudest when they are hit, by then nobody will be willing to listen to them. Any Good Doc is OK in my book its the ones with the god complex and thinks they are better then anyone else (not just limited to Docs) cuz they think they are uber or 733+ or whatever.

LOL well ... now look ... you got me going ...

if they dont say pls i dont care, they all say thanks to me, and i will start charging 15k for my buffs coz they are underpriced for what they are (when im doin public buffs and am on bivoli).

its +4k for the innoculations assuming they will pvp thats to cover the costs for buying the innocs.

i buff for half price when im in a pvp grp and if im with my guild i buff for free as my guild provides docs with all that is needed (separate buff sets for guild and the public).

you guys make me laugh.

What is the point of being a doc if you are not going to use the skills...seems like a lot of skill points just to buff yourself and friends.

In protest...I have taken one day a week and dedicate that day to buffing people for free in mos eisley.

I started doing this yesterday. I advertised that I was protesting all the doc's whining about buff prices and whining customers. I spent about 3 hours buffing people....everyone was amazed that I was buffing people for free. Some people even slipped in a tip without me noticing. I even had several people that were doc's talk to me about my protest while I was buffing. Most of them agreed with me that too many docs on the forums are just too whiney.

Play how you want...the point of the game is to have fun. If you are not having fun being a doc because you feel everyone is harrrassing you....drop doc and be something else...I am sure you will find something to complain about in whatever profession you choose.

Me personally...I love buffing people. I get to take a break from hectic mission running and sit back, relax chat with people socialize. There is more to this game than run run run kill kill kill.

sheesh....have fun people and quit complaining about dumb things...
