Thread: Why I sometimes get disillusioned by being a Doctor...
you know, ppl can tip from the bank while they are dead ![]()
if i dont know the person, they pay me first, i dont really care if they thank me as long as they arnt rude and pay me. lol
Seriously though, people sh*t on medical professions a lot yet we are there when they need us. I always tell people that if you can't make room for 15 points for novice medic in your template because you want to be all l33t and sh*t you better not go crying for heals

There are a lot of great people out there, but there are a lot of jerks too. Unfortunately the jerks are the ones that seem to have a greater impact on how we feel.
I do have some advice though. You can be helpful if you want, but don't leave feeling that you were undervalued. You really offered your service for free.
If you want value for what you do, you need to set the price up front. Its not money grubbing or selfish, its a way to protect yourself from feeling bad. If you say "sure I'll res you for 5k credits" the onus is on them to accept or reject the value of your service. Not only will you get valued (at aprice that you feel is correct), you will be educating them that your service DOES have value. Maybe even help them remember to value the next doc that helps them out. If they refuse to pay what you set as your price, then they do not get your service, and you do not need to feel bad, as obviously they do not value you as much as you feel is fair.
Hope I made some sense, but thats how I do it. Its the same in many service-oriented businesses in RL, including medicine. People can't really afford to work for free, and want others to value what they do (be it in credits, respect, materials, or whatever).
Excellent advice! No one takes advantage of us, in game or irl, unless we let them....

Welcome to the universe people. You will find users and people who appreciate you. You will run across people that expect you to heal because you are a doctor and those that appreciate you could have been a commando (funny how they expect you to help if you are a healer but get annoyed if you try and blow them a way as combat type).
When I started my character as a lost little medic, I got a lot of assistance from other doctors and people in the ways of Cash and Grinding materials. To them all, I say thank you. I help others now not because I expect something but because I can. If this means we get the occasional jerks, well they are human as well.
If you do not want to buff, say no. Buffing is medical augmentation. We have no obligation to buff and anyone who thinks differently can show me where in RL or anywhere such an obligation exists. Anyone wanting such Augmentation had better pay for it, before the first cut (so to speak). However, I do think we have an obligation to heal to a certain extent. Help someone who is down once is a must. If they turn around and run straight back from the frying pan into the fire, then for sure, make whatever religious sign you make over the dead and move on, but do not pass the ones by that truely need healing and help just because the idiots make it bad for us.
It makes me laugh on camera when u forget to take ur tag off and ur tells start pouring in "buff" "buff" . The amount of rudness you get when exlpaining we only buff guild is amasing . One player even asked how they could join us hahahahahahahahaha. Of course I told them where to get off as they are obviously a ponce!!
Doc'ing is the most under appreciated proffesion on the servers and I intend to make people really understand what it is like to not get what they so obviously expect to get for nothing .
On that note if i did sell buffs which i dont they would cost 25k for six stats at the very least and wound healing would cost from 1k-10k depending on the planet .
The docs bite back ,dont be taken for granted ,make them pay and make them bleed then heal em and charge them for fixing them up again hahahahahaha rofl
If it is a problem having people ask for buffs for free just make sure you have some buff A's. They have minimal cost to you and beggrs can't be choosers. You would be surprised how many people turn down free buffs if they are not master level.
it's so tough determining value of services. should a commando say "i'll take out that at-st for 5k"?
everyone is valuable, the problem is, no one questions an artisan or his vendor when they ask for a certain price for a certain item. if you don't like the vendors price, you walk away.
this kind of goes along the lines of when entertainers were looking for pre-paid healing services.
in a group, i just look to see if everone is pulling their weight. I will buff and heal, quietly, sitting back and enjoying the Carbine Xp I'm getting because the Ch's tank is keeping me alive.
Sometimes in Med centers I'll pull the "Sorry, I can't heal you I'm out of Meds, I need to go buy some more, but I'm low on cash, Brb..." then I leave...
Some people really amaze me : / I was in bestine med center for about 30 mins last night since i didnt have anything to do so i thought id pop in there to see if anyone needed training or healing if there wasnt anyone else there. I normally charge for anything i do but occasionally i do things for free.
I saw 1 person with disease so i put my master doc tag on and offered to cure him if he tipped me something, didnt say how much ( ive done it for 1 cr before ) but he just refused to pay, obviously preferred the disease. A few mins later the same thing happened, i offered to cure a disease for a tip and he just laughed and walked off lol : / Then some other nooby medic ( he was german : / ) started calling me sad for 'begging' for cash lol Now its been a while since cash was a problem.... but this rather pissed me off :/
On the other hand, the occasional person is very grateful, even got tipped a small tattooine house once for healing a few wounds
still use that house to this day
Well, hopefully you'll see these people that need a heal in the future, and if you remember them, the laughs on them
always pays to be nice to doctors and medics, entertainers and the like, as we need these more than anyone ![]()
