Thread: Why you will never be able to charge enough for healing

I am thinking of some sort of a health insurance for players.
a player can, optional, deposit a certain amount of credits to his health insurance account.
for this he get a special flag or something like "Hey Doc, i m insured".
we Docs get a guaranteed tip out of the players health account

so it´s up to us healers to decide if we´re only after the credits or if we are willing to spend time and money to the uninsured poor people

the next step would be to think about some sort of welfare

Tek, listen to Zarlor. He knows of what he speaks.

You think you're the first to come up with a 'good' idea for our profession that got ignored? Hell, almost ALL of our ideas in beta were ignored in FAVOR of the ideas from the players in OTHER professions...

Guess y'get used to it after a while.

Cloning may be cheap, but it does not fix wounds you get from actually fighting stuff. After a couple hours fighting with my TK friend, he will have hundreds of wounds that need healed. If you really want to heal wounds, maybe you should head out to an advanced planet, where the mobs are mean.

As a note:

Texxie is somewhat biased. heh. (Though so am I...)

I still think a lot of the beta ideas were merely delayed rather than destroyed. We mostly worked as a profession (look at commandos.. ack).

We're finally getting diagnose, not because they hate us, but because outr profession works without it.

The same is basically true of pay systems... they would be nice, but if we actually tried we could get paid as it is now... I know I do... I always get paid to heal, unless I'm healing friends... and there is no system in place now.

That's why there is no huge rush to get a payment system in... it is mainly a crutch for people that don't stand up for themselves.

When the servers start to mature, and as a fast XP professions Doctors are maxing out fast... getting heals WILL be a factor of money.. Because when people don't need XP ,very few of them wil lsit in a med center.

Man, selfish people!

Where does it say that people HAVE to pay/tip you? I personally tip more often than not when I have money to spare. However, when I'm healing (halfway up medic still deciding on Doctor or Combat Medic) I never expect anyone to tip me for it. If someone does, then great. Same goes for dancers. Geez...whatever happened to goodwill and all that?

You guys want to make money? Get a house, put a vendor in it and sell medical supplies. Stims, wound packs, etc. Perhaps even include the different components that are needed to make some of the things.

If all medics/doctors stopped healing because they weren't getting paid, you'd ruin the game for everyone involved. You're not getting exp, they're not getting healed.

Bleh...

Wookin...

A Weaponsmith gets creds for their goods, an armoursmith gets creds for their goods, an architect gets creds for their goods...

The ONLY difference for medics and docs is that the goods we make are USED on other people.

We deserve payment for those goods the SAME WAY weaponsmiths, armoursmiths and architects do.

As for the whole 'xp' issue..guess what, I'm a MASTER Doctor. I don't NEED xp.

Now hold on, Wookinpaub. Just because there are some of us that prefer being altruistic healers that do not expect payment for whatever our reasons may be, does not somehow make those who would like to get paid for the service (a service which is most defnitely and quantifiably costing them) somehow, bad, greedy or selfish.

First off there is no such thing as a Hipocratic Oath in Star Wars, that I am aware of.I sure never took one when I paid for Novice Medic. This is Star Wars, not RL Earth. Now if I or you CHOOSE to play our characters as if they had taken such an oth, well then more power to us. But if others CHOOSE not to believe in that, then more power to them as well.

Even in teh real world, however, do you naturally consider all real Doctor's greedy because they tend to make a lot of money and you have to pay them? Most folks don't consider them selfish, instead they consider the healer that volunteers time to heal for free at a charity hospital a caring and giving person. The free healer is elevated above the norm and stand out in this way. Those who do not do so ARE the norm and are not below it, or considered vile, simply because they do what anyone would expect of them.

In SWG there are tangible expenses to the process of healing, unlike many other MMOs where the only cost to the healer is a bit of time taken in the regeneration of something like "mana" or "spell points". Instead a healer in this game must spend time and credits in obtaining resources and in creating or buying the products used to heal.

Is someone greedy if they just wanted to have a method for breaking even on those expenses? Is our norm really that everytime a Doc heals someone it should be costing the Doc money while the person they are healing, who is likely being saved enough time, at a minimum,to run an extra mission for at least 1,500 creds? Is it really being selfish and greedy for them to want at least some compensation? Some way of breaking even on their expenses?

fact is that there is already an in game system to get moeny for healing its called conversation....

its a cool little system you should try.

Doctor says "wow u look hurt, 500 wounds to healh and 400 wound the action...ill heal you for xxx amount."

Patient says "uh ok ill pay xxx." or "no xxx is too expensive. Elenora will heal me for free."

This is no different from any other transaction in the game. if u offer a service some will offer for freee...oh well...wow says we all have to charge...

so there u go a payment system. We really dont need a in game system to replace something the game already provides for...

This is will be 1000x more easy when diagnostics comes out and e can see substat wounds too...

I really wasn't trying to bash anyone, I just see a Doctor/Medic as someone who helps. I don't see it as a way of bringing in money. However, I understand that many of you medical guys don't have other money making professions to bring in the creds so I can see why you'd want to charge for it. I, personally, would never pay it, nor would I MAKE someone pay for it. As I said, I am making my way up to an elite medical profession and I buy all of my ingredients and make them, myself on my own time. Doesn't bother me to give out free healing. Hell, I do it out in the field to random people.

I guess that's just me. By the way, I know it didn't come across as such, the selfish people thing was meant jokingly. However, I was serious about opening a shop...which I'm going to do personally...to make money.

Admittedly, medic is not my primary profession, so I may just be seeing things from a different perspective. I just don't think it's right to gouge(sp?) people for healing.

If there was a Hipocratic Oath in Star Wars Galaxy then I need to quit carrying Blaster And Setting up a vendor is a good idea cause younger mEdics and those who can use but can't make those items will come to you.
