Well, comparing the sample size to total players isn't really correct/ You'd have to compare to total # of Docs in the game, instead, and we know that total is going to be much lower then that.

However, I personally don't think 52% with a sample of 160 really is enough, personally. It may be a simple majority, but I don't think it is enough for a mandate on the issue to push forward. haveing 48% of a playerbase ticked off about a change is probably a lot worse than having 52% who can at least live wtih the current situation but be annoyed by it until some nebulous time when the Devs feel like they can impliment a more appropriate change to an otherwise functioning system.

Yo may have noticed that while a vast majority of the comments are for a lesser degree of varianility (I belive it was more like 80-85% in the poll where I listed 3 options because I misread Bens post, not realizing he was actually only offering us 2 options at this time) that many of the comments following option 2 have also stated that for some reason they felt that removing variability would be a "nerf". Now that statements seems rather ridiculous to me, since the average buff will be exactly the same as it was, it would just be a constant number. No more Great buffs, but no more of those looney low-ballers either.

Even some of the #1 voters said they wanted it if it didn't turn out to be a nerf. Well, I can't see how it could be a nerf, but it seems obvious that some folks would construe it that way anyways, probably because they simply miscalculate what their average is by remembering allt he great numbers they have occasionally gotten, but completely forgetting the low-balls.

I've suggested what I THINK the formulat used is (minus the variability factor) but I don't know for sure. Our Dev never responded with it, either, but I get the feeling that even if he did respond his answer would be that they don't give such things out, as some people may construe "discovering" those formulas as a part of the gaming exsperience and to hand out the information would be to ruin it for them. I won't say that I agree in a case like this, but that's what I expect the answer would be. (That's pure speculation, though.)

For the record (or for those who don't wnat to go back to see my vote), I'm personally for #1 on this (although my actual preference would be for a greatly reduced variability over a complete removal of it.)
