Thread: New Enhance Poll (VOTE!)
>> While it wasn't an overwhelming majority in favor of 1,it was still a majority.
I don't think it was a clear majority -- and being a game developer myself, I can tell you something for sure -- If something is 52% in favor of doing work and 48% in favor of not doing work, no work will get done.
This will stay the way it is, I can pretty much guarantee it.

Actually it was probably an overwhelming majority in favor of reducing the variance (while leaving the mean untouched of course). Almost everyone that posted for 1 or 2 and made a comment wanted the variance reduced and very few if any wanted no variance. However, it was only split on the 2 extremes (with a slight majority wanting no variance as the lesser of two evils). So if the vast majority want a change, the Devs already admitting that a change is in order, I think a change will happen.
That is the way I see it, and I can pretty much guarantee it'll happen.I'll also agree that it probably won'thappen anytime in the near future though as it is a low priority considering it is a working skill in a very unfinished game.

IF it means I don't get stuck with a buff number that just sucks. I'd hate to give up the chance for a big buff in the name of consistency only to find out that "consistency" means "base heal + 50" or something silly.
gr8, the buffs are going to be nerfed then we get to here everyone complaining about that....

1. Please, I rather see a constant buff instead of the variables. Better to tell whom we are buffing what to expect.

There was 160ish people who voted. Do you really think this low of a sample size is accurate enough to warrent saying that the majority of the doctor profession wants it changed? Sure it was 52% to 48% but the people voting was probably only 1/100th of the amount of doctors out there. The majority of the people do not even read the forums.
If this major feature is changed on the account of 6 votes then all hope is lost as they have surrendered to the board warriors to direct the way the game will run.

First, a sample of size 160is not small. If you've taken a statistics course or read literature on research, you'd find that a lot of decisions are made with smaller sample sizes. In fact, the charts I had to determine confidence only went to 100 in my statistic courses. To determine the corresponding level of confidence you'd have to know how many players are actually doctors (which would have to be given by SOE), however, 160 is hardly a small sample size.
Secondly, to call a change in buffing variance a "major feature" is a bit of a stretch. It is a small attribute of one feature of the doctor profession. To change the variance is hardly ground breaking. However, most people would (and have) agreed that the variance is much too high for buffs. If you read the comments on this thread you'd notice that the vast majority of posters that commented have agreed that they would all like reduced variance (as I have already stated). In fact, I don't think anyone wanted no variance, however, those who voted 1 still outnumbered those that voted 2. This should tell you something.
So since the vast majority would like variance reduced, even to the extent that a majoritywould rather have no variance than keep thecurrent implementation of the code, why not simply set the variance variable to zero until they get around to actually giving us more options?
If you place it in game for a while, or at least move it to the test server, you could better judge how well it was received. People might find that they like it a lot better or the reverse could hold. People could log onto the test center and try it out for a while. Then a more informed polling (in game hopefully) could be taken.
Of course if you voted 2, andfound your were in the minority, I can see why you'd rather use arguments like 160ish isn't a large enoughsample, when160 is actually a large sample size considering the playerbase of SWG. Or that since it was close that it wasn't a "clear" majority. A majority is anything over 50%. It doesn't get much more clear than that. It is a slight majority though, but there is nothing "unclear" it.

How is 160 a large sample size when there are over 200,000 players in the game?
