Thread: To docs who think we should charge 10k minimum for buffs

I'll type slowly so maybe you can understand it better.
You became my new best friend. I cant stop laughing.
I play on Infinity a new server, which gives a very refreshing insight
I know of only 3 other master docs, one of whom hasn't even got any enhance packs yet. The other 2 keep a bit quiet
I've just dropped Master Doc with a sense of relief, being the busiest Doc on a server is not fun. This has left people in something of a state of shock as they realise one of the most significant player services now borders on unavailable
I previously played a Master Doc on Tempest and noticed some of the same issues
1) people love you, love having you about, want to hunt with you. This is the reward, this is what really makes it worthwhile. Most of us become Docs for the boost it gives to the people we play with. Buffing the general public is actually a side issue for many of us - for those who like to be of service it makes more sense to hunt with people who value you and for those who like to make money it makes more sense to hunt with powered-up friends who clock mission after mission. (We have mission races sometimes, usually at shutdown, anddo up to 6 missions in the last 15 minutes with a relatively small group on Dant)
2) the issue with resources isn't about cpu it's about supply. If there were plentiful resource vendors stocked with dolovite, class 4, avian and all the rest buffing would be a lot more fun. As it is buffing is hard work, I was delighted this morning to scrap my far-flung harvesters and throw up 8 fusions instead, all in the same spot.My harvesting work will be 20 minutes once per week instead of 3 hours twice a week
3) most of our work, particularly before we hit master can be rather thankless. If we didn't have buffs the profession would not be viable at all in its current state, down there with Droid Engineers and Chef as the most work for the least reward
4) we really can charge as we see fit, if someone understands the value of buffs almost anything we charge is a bargain to them. Let me compare Chef with TKA for a moment to illustrate this.
To get your first chef box you can expect to grind Wastril Bread on practice mode. You will use 16k of resources and you will pay for it. Your only reward is exp.
To get your first box in TKA you will spend probably an equivalent amount of time doing missions. Mynocks on Lok are possible for a buffed TK Novice to do with reasonable comfort. These pay 9k and take you about 10 mins each
So the chef is spending about 50k for his first box and the TKA is making twice that - but only if buffed.
I love buffs, with my non-Doc combatcharacters I'drather break even and be buffed than gain exp at a quarter of the speed and make a few creds
So in summary the price of 10k - 20k doesn't reflect cpu it reflects, as many have said, time. We are trying to protect our quality gaming time over our capacity to provide a sought-after service and using price as a barrier helps stop us being swamped and getting burned-out (as I am a little now)
I'll skill up Doc again but for now I'm taking a well-earned break
I don't want a customer base. The first thing I do when I log in is turn off my title. I make much more than 10k from the missions I run during a buff cycle.

I've never paid over 6k for buffs and never will, good luck getting people to pay 10k as I'm sure some do but the more reasonable docs will make far more money in the long run through a much higher customer base.
