Actually, they have no intention of changing now. They once also said they had no intention of making more powerful combat droids, but they ended up doing that a few months later. Just, get on that test server when it comes up, and be vocal in the feedback threads, and we may just have a chance (slim though it is) of getting an enabling device by May.

I'm very much concerned what is going to happen to my huge inventory of crafted doc items that seem to be going away. I have2-3 schems worth of each craftable doc item (except enhance packs) precrafted and either sitting in factory output hoppers or on my vendors... That's alot of items that aren't going to be useful anymore.

My suspicion is these will just be deleted or remain in-game but be useless. That disturbs me.

I like and support most of the changes, but I'm not sure what is going to happen to existing items thatdon't have a role in the new system. That bothers me...

Is there going to be an "enabling device" for these "abilities" ala combat professions. Or is the game going to rely on these "magical" "abilities"?

Well, I brought this up on a couple of occasions, but really, an "enabling device" would just be something that took up another inventory slot.

I can't imagine you want a placeholder in your inventory, would you?

In my inventory now I've got two sets of buffs (one average and one really high), wound meds, disease and poison cures and enhancements, stims and a rez kit. Not to mention the Bivoli and Brandy to go with it. That's 26 items plus the six crates of more buffs which are in my droid. Getting rid of all that stuff is going to free up a TON of inventory space. How does giving us one tool to use for healing even compare to what we carry around now?

Very true, but here's how I see it.

Force everyone in the game to have an item at all times to heal. (even if they don't want it)

Or allow the people in the game that DO want to be restricted to having that item to simply invent something for themself. (have a friend Artisan create a surveying tool and name it "Medical Supplies."

I see the latter as being the more friendly answer as you can RP how you want.

After reading all the changes I am kind of liking it, I picked up doctor to heal people and have fun not to make money, and with the changes ill still be able to heal people and have fun, I have never really cared for the crafting but I did it,will it reduce my income not one bit as I dont buff for money or sell anything med wise outside my guild.

This stuff about magic healing, well guess what the whole game is about magic things, I mean I can have a guild hall in my pocket, or 30 harvestors or millions of resources, 3 speeders 5 droids 2 pets this isreal isnt it.

They have been talking about changes for a long time now so it shouldnt be a supprise to anyone, I just want to have a chance to test it and see how it will work but for a long time doctor (October 2003) it is not the end of my profession. If you feel it is im sorry.

All items well be converted to conform to the new system....how useful they will be after that is unknown...but nothing will be deleted unless you do so yourself.

I'm not sure ALL items will be. Some will not have a purpose or will not be able to convert I'm guessing. Luckly all I have left is resources.... but still, those won't be doing me much good.

Not according to Blair

What's going to happen to all the existing items?

  • We are going to convert all existing itemsto what they need to be. In some cases, the functionality of an item no longer exists, so we will adapt it to make it useful under the new system. Stims (Stimulants) fall into this category. Many of you are concerned about weapons. In many cases the speed and damage values of your weapons will change. As part of the conversion, we are maintaining the scale of all the weapons across the servers. This means, that if you had one of the most powerful weapons on the server before CU, you will still have one of the most powerful weapons on the server after CU. Though it is likely the stats will have been altered.

Ah, but the CU is actually very much inside the box. SWG right now is outside the traditional MMO box. I was one of the CU's biggest proponents until I saw this version of it. I am as aware of the problems in the current system as anyone else. That doesn't mean that I think just any new system will be better. This looks like nothing short of applying the EQ engine to the SWG skin.

Thats like saying Doom 3, Halflife 2, or any other FPS....or how about Red Alert and Warcraft.....They are based on the same idea's but they aren't the same games. It's how the designers adjust the gameplay, storyline, and concepts that make a game different.

Even if the CU is based of the so called "EQ engine", it's not going to be the same as EQ. Just because healers will no longer have the edge of crafting, which no other game has, doesn't mean that this game isn't going to still be SWG. Just because in the CU they use words like Mezzing, Crowd Control, Position Change, etc....doesn't mean this won't be SWG. All it means is SOE had to use worlds that people could understand and basically say "Ok so its Pikeman is kinda like XXX in XXX Game" or "Basically Doctor is now a cleric or wizard".

That doesn't mean that SWG will be any less of a game. It just means they are using "inside the box" words....for and "Outside the box game". But maybe your right, maybe it will be nothing more then EQ with SWG skin....but I'm ok with that, because the player base is totally different then that of EQ or anyother game. And that's what will and always has seperated SWG with any other MMO....not the code....the player base.

Yes, that may be true. Components may be converted but no way people who have spent 10s of milions of dollars on avian meat will get their creds back. I do not see avian meat holding its current worth and resources being the big hit Docs will take on creds, for those who have several stacks of the best doc resources on their server. I am cautious of the CU ebing a doc/swords. I honestly never sold buffs or crafted anything so that part will not bother me but I can see where people who make their living off buffs and stuff would be really pissed.

We are all in the same boat....but that is the risk you take when you buy resources for 250 CPU. I've said it from day one its not that hard to pick up scout and get it yourself for free and make money from missions. Everyone has resources....and even I will be upset if Avian meat is turned into just "another meat".....

One thing I'm greatful for is the fact that I only collected enough resources to make myself supplies. Though it is sad I won't be able to do that anymore... maybe I can find a BE to take this stuff off my hands. It is the best on the server....

Yup I'm the same way, When I moved to Starsider, I had no intention of mas producing, so I only got enough for me. But on the flip side you got about a month to buff like crazy or craft buffs like crazy. I don't see the demand dropping...
