I was told be some people that if your a Master Doctor you should have a melee profession instead of a ranged profession. Would anyone know the reason why this is?
I just received the clone trooper armor reward and I think I kind of look stupid running around with my little sword in that armor
I currently don't have much melee skill.

because from the point of skill point use combat medic + a ranged profession gives u some more skillpoints to use (u spare 1 skill tree as CM and a ranged prof share ranged support 4 as prerequisite). from this a common thinking for the healing professions is: ranged + CM and melee + Doc.
but in the end it doesnt realy matter. i have a Master Pistoleer/Master Doc, a Master Pistoleer/Master CM and a Master Doc/TK Master and i find all of them fun to play.
if u want to become a Doctor the use of skill points stays the same with ranged and melee professions.

Ah, ok, thanks C-mot. So it's a matter of left-over skill points and playstyle.
That explains it.![]()

Im a mdoc, mpistoleer, and carbine x4xx. I can solo krayt ancients with it very easily. Ranged is good. and as the person above said you use the same amount of sp's ranged or melee.

One thing to consider, if you are healing and you get the aggro, you wear it for a while and end up healing yourself and your armor takes a real beating.
For that reason TKM is not a bad choice. No armour requirement and thus no need to constantly replace it as it wear out, it is capable of dealing some damage (quite reasonable amounts if you get the Knuckles of Katarn IMHO) and you can dress however you like (just make sure to use clothes with suitable CA slots and BE tissues so you gain the most benefit while you are at it). As a TKM/Master Doc you can still use an ALR for ranged combat and its one of the better rifles in the game if you get a decent one. In fact as TKM you make a great tank, allowing you to help a group by taking on the aggro if needs be.
For me TKM seems a natural fit for Doctor.

I'm with you on this Jhonto. I'm seriously considering going TKA again. I'm not interested in doing lots of damage really, I'm a support guy (my opinion). Having TKA will be good when I take aggro from someone... Plus I don't like buying armor constantly.
Having Doc skills is like having a super taunt ability

I am a Master Doc/Master Rifleman and I love it. I like hunting solo and have no problems doing that with this template and a decent gun. Depending on your individual preference, you could go M Doc/M ranged/ and pick up one other tree in another ranged profession. For a while, Iwas M Doc/M Rifle/Carb 0400 which I really loved, but I recently switched it up to M Doc/M Rifle/Nov BH and still find it a fairly good template.

i took the bio warfare tree from CM (0004) for my Master Doc/Master Pistoleer. it gives u the paralyze skill. very nice if u draw to much agro from more then one targets. u can take out one attacker for some time - to concentrate on healing or fighting the others. the movement and combat speed debuffs of that skilltree are also very useful.

TKM is great.. but then there's the fact that it's ineffective beyond 5m.

I like my Master Doctor / Master Bounty Hunter toon. I use a high powered rifle (even though i"m not a rifleman) and still hit for over 700 DPS (with a PU)
There are lots of perks with this template. Doctor is just fun.. =o) You can buff yourself and go hunt, heal your own wounds if you die, and as a BH, you can go get uber loot from the NPC's or hunt Jedi if you would like... with enhancers, stims and regular bacta shot.. i can usually out heal most anyone that i am dueling or fighting and when it comes to hunting high end MOB's you can heal a lot better as a Doc than as just a regular profession using stims.
I dunno.. i just love my template.. =o)

I'm master doctor and master carbineer, and I really like it. When I'm in a group, I can heal well and do enough damage to tank well and help take down enemies quickly, even if I'm close in. But I do a lot of soloing for quests and such, and then the ranged really helps as taking down enemies quickly is essential.
Do what's fun for you, both ways work.
