Thread: A /tip question...

Ok, let us say that I have been slain twice and I walk into the Med Center to get about 1/3 of my HAM healed.

Question: How much would you want me to tip?
I don't want to hear "Oh, whatever you think it is worth... Whatever you think you can spare..."

How much DO YOU WANT me to tip? What is the average tip?

I also have to add that I very much like yoou docs, and I usually tip 1000-2500cr. I don't have any med skills myself, and with all the AT-STs running around... let's just say I spend a lot of my time getting healed.

I would also like to say this, if you are having a bad day or are a bit sick of healing people at the moment - get out of the Med Center!

I was at the Med Center in Coronet the other day. I don't know why, but all the Docs there was in a really baaaaad mood. I sat there waiting for about 8-10 minutes before a Master Doctor came up to me and said: "Are you gonna tip? If not - Get Out!"
I can understand that you get angry if you heal someone and they don't tip, but Jesus, don't take it out on me...

As I always do tip, And I think I'm also pretty generous with my tips cuz' I do NOT have a lot of money. So I said "Yes sir, I am tipping."
Thanking back now I should have walked away.
Another guy comes in and says: "Can someone heal me please?" and a doctor in the back of the room say "IF I HEAR SOMEONE SAY THAT ONE MORE TIME I'M GONNA "#%& *#%)(%&"!!!!"

I'm sitting there wery quiet, thinking that if I say something someone will pull out another AT-ST and smack me in the head with it.

Anyway, The Doc heals me and tells me to get out, I'm healed! So I tip him 500cr for the worst service I have ever seen, but then atleast I can sleep at night.

I start running for my mission and when I'm a bit outside the City I check my Character Sheet to se how I'm doing on the Faction points. That is where I realise that the **edit** Doc had only healed my Health and Action bar. He did not heal my strenght, constitution and so on...

Things like this really makes me a bit mad.

All I'm saying is, if you are having a bad day you shouldn't be healing people. I have bad days too, and when I do I usually stay in my little house and craft or something.

Keep up the good work guys, we are lost without you.

Heh, well im a Doc on Naboo, and I usually work for free, and tipping is a bonus. But when I do get tipped, I would like to see tips of around 500-1000 cr, depending on wounds.

Other doctors / medics will charge more, but I run missions to get money since I know that being a medic is not enough in itself

people tip me 100 or 1000. For all black stuff 1000 for sure cause it costs me atleast that to buy the packs that i use for it.

In general 2cr per wound is probably enough for a Doc to break even. If you want another gauge, consider what 1/4 of your Health plus1/4of yourAction are. Consider that if you had payed 1000cr to clone you would have had an instant heal of that many wounds. Then break it down from there. Likely it will be around that 2-3cr per wound mark.

As for the Docs you ran into int he Med Center, truthfully I wouldn't touch Coronet's Med Center with a 10-foot pole. It's far too busy in there and I'd probably get surly after a while, too. However, I gotta agree, they sound pretty rude from your description. You may have been better off responding that you are normally gald to tip, but with that attitude you'll be happy to just get healing elsewhere.

As for secondaries, always be sure to pull up your character sheet to check them out when you get healed. There are actually several reasons for this beyond checking their levels. Primaryt amongst them is to see if you ahve any stats that are sticking. That is stats are are stuck at a level that is lower than what they should be with the wounds you have. Sometimes this does happen (especially if someone Resuscitates you) and this is a good opportunity to remember to check for the problem and eat or drink something to hopefully unstick them.

Finally on having secodaries healed.Generally 20-30 is something of a balancing point where less wounds then that just isn't worth healing and shouldn't affect you too badly anyways. So it's quite likely you won't get a healing on a stat less than 20 unless a Doc is feeling generous. Those things are barely even scratches. It would help if they let you know that, though. If there were more wounds then that, though, they really should have bothered to look into them if they realy cared about being there. Seems to me the folks you saw either just wanted to see what creds they could get (and they shouldn't get many with that attitude) or were just looking to hit bigger wounds to grind out some XP. Beyond that it doesn't sound like they were enjoying the Med Center and if they weren't having fun I completely agree they should just get OUT of there and do something they like.

Tipping is absolutely greatly appreciated by Docs. I currently retain a log of good tippers and will heal on the spot if they show up, period. Also if I see them around town with wounds I offer to heal them up. One of the big problems is peeps who have very minor wounds, in the neighboorhood of 15-20 in Health and Action and 2-6 in secondaries who overload the Med centers and spam "I need heals, heal me ASAP". For those that do not know, a heal is a heal is a heal in the sense that if I have woundpacks with 10 charges, I have 10 heals with that whether they are to heal 1 pt of wound damage or 100. I am a little picky on who I heal for this specific reason, not to be a jerk, but to heal10 pts of wound damage when I useB wound packs or above is overkill.

As a master doc I do my share of healing for free but there's plenty of times when I just will not do it anymore. One recent example was after healing someone on Lok and getting a thank you, the guy is back 5 mins later with more wounds and expects me to start healing him again by saying "Doc!". I'm busy trying to buff my group and they are waiting on me to finish. I told him I was sorry, I didn't heal for free anymore (I'll heal anyone once but not every 5 mins). I was called every name in the book and the guy eventually left the med center. If the guy had bothered to tip me even 500cr I would have healed him again but I'm not his personal heal bitz. 500 credits mean absolutely jack to me and most any master doc but if you expect us to take time to mine resources/craft them/heal you then a token of your time is expected as well. Especially on Lok or Dathomir and there is only one doctor on the entire planet.

That said, doctors should **edit** well give you a chance to give them that appreciation before yelling at you or demanding tips. Arranging payment is certainly the doctor's option but demanding a tip or saying get out! is completely unacceptable.

Last thing to remember is that doctors come across 100 times more jerk patients than you come across jerk doctors. I wish it was not that way.

Tipping is an intricate topic. Some people don't know how, others don't feel the need to, others can't afford to, and then everyone who is left must decide how much to give. The question then, what is right to give? It really depends, and you should give what you feel their time is worth. Remember, them healing you is only the very tip of the time required to get you healed. They still need to buy, harvest, or sample for the resources required to heal you. In any of these cases, they lose money and time. Not only this, but then they must craft the medicines required to heal you.

If you want levels for how much to give, then here you (assuming you tip and you have credits) here are some:
100 credits is a minimum, regardless of the heal size in my opinion.
500 credits should be minimum for anything major.
1k+ way to go, this is always a good amount to give... my highest tip is 10k, and I've heard of considerably higher, so you really can't give too much

You should not tip based on time it takes you to get healed... for example a novice medic is likely going to take longer to heal you than a master doctor. So, who should get tipped more? Well, I'd say neither. They both healed you as fast as they can, so give them both what you think they deserve.

If you don't give a tip, give a reason. If you know you can't give a tip (or you won't) tell the medics or doctors ahead of time. I'd still heal you as long as you are honest beforehand.

Personally, I've had some bad luck healing ppl, I mentioned this before, but not long ago I head to catch a shuttle but was healing myself in medical center. SOmeone asked me to heal them, so I start, about 1400 points I healed and then I left to catch a shuttle... anyway I felt bad because a medic was trying to heal him too, and I was stealing points. The guy demanded I come back and finish him. I didn't get a tip, which is ok because I suppose I didn't 'deserve one', but what concerned me more was the way I was being treated

Tips aren't as important to many doctors as pleasent conversation. Be nice, you'll do better. Heh, from my experiences now, I don't heal anyone demanding. Ask for heal, don't demand one.

Yup many different ones. Mine is I don't ask for money. Won't refuse the money, but won't demand it, I think this sets a bad image of the doctor/medic IMO.

I personally hate when someone bardges into the med center going I'll tip $xxx for a quick heal. I usually tell them I charge 5k for "quick heals" and will have them out the door in under 2 minutes. The usuall shut-up at that point.

My other favorite is when somone stands right in front of me while I'm trying to heal and says "U heal me?" and use /diagnose and see they have 2-3 points wounds.

I don't know,I think 2 cr is too LOW. At that rate I think most Medics are simply undervaluing what their time and effort is realy worth. I mean how long does it take you to make 3000 cr on a mission? 10-15 mins? Compare thatto thetime to craft and/or gather resources and/or the costs of those resources, adding in all the other expenses, such as travel if needed, and so on. Factoring cost on resource cost alone is majorly gipping yourself and too many medics greatly undervalue their services (it's not just using a pack, it is ALSO a service and should be priced accordingly) and therefore have kind of a low self-image in this respect.

I think it's a myth to think 2cr is somehow overvalued. 5cr or moreshould downright be the standard, IMHO. Especially for the faster healer. Should a Master get paid more than the Novice? Heck yeah, because a Master Doc may have just saved that patient 15 mins. Time is creds (and XP) in SWG. 15 mins saved is another 3-6,000 cred mission, or more! (A LOT more on planets like Dantooine and Lok!)

Lol!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to answer. I didn't think I was gonna get so many replies. I bet this isn't the first time this question has been asked on this forum.

About the Doctor in that back screaming "IF I HEAR ONE MORE TIME..."

That one I can kinda understand. There are maybe three or four people in the Med Center doing their best to as quick as possible heal the 15-20 people standing in line. Then "Uber-Hanz Holo" tumbles in wearing nothing but boots, underwear and a helmet shouting "Heal Please!! Healz healz!! Doc!! HEEAALLZZ MMEEEZZ!!!11!!" every five seconds.

I would not be surprised if this is also the guy that does NOT tip wery good.

Again thanks for responding, you have all been very helpful.

You would be right. That's exactly the kind of guy who doesn't tip at all.

There's also the insidious "I tip will for anyone who will heal me NOW!" More often then not, they are just impatient fools who will be happy to completely bail or go LD as soon as you finish healing them. No tips there, either.

For a short time I required tips before I healed because I was low on meds (I'm always low on meds for some reason) and I didn't need xp... anyway, one time someone told me they tipped me, but I didn't see it. Their friend and them got mad at me for not healing. I looked up and down my chat (and what I think had happened was that he had tried to tip, but failed because he didn't have enough credits on hand) and couldn't find it. I healed his friend and gave half back (I usually gave half back for some reason), and realized I had probably paid someone so that I could heal them, hehe.

Since then I decided either I don't expect a tip or I don't heal, but I sure as heck don't ask for money up front.

I am truly sorry you had bad time in Coronet's Med center. Let me officially apologize on behalf of my fellow Docs. If you are ever in the area again and need assistance come see me (axishunter). There are also a few other Doctors who are very polite and would never do anything like that : Zath , Saxxo and Eepo. They've all done favors for meand were very polite. BTW a good tip for me is between 500 and 1000. The rare times I get 2000 bucks I am so gratful my patient can't leave without getting full of thank you's !

Have a prudent day.
