Thread: Make Buffs Self Applicable: What do you guys think?

***Whatever you think of this idea, I hope you agree that sitting around Coronet buffing people blows hard, and waiting around in Coronet to be buffed blows hard. So, maybe someone else has an idea to make things better.
1 of my 2 top issues in this game is that you have to wait 20 minutes in a line in Coronet for buffs to go do anything. I suppose I could go doctor myself, but I really don't want to. Sure, I have doctor friends, but sometimes they aren't around, or are too busy to give out buffs, or are just out. Sooner or later everyone goes to Coronet for buffs, and it is one of the worst aspects of this game.
Why do buffs have to be applied by a doctor? Instead of paying 10K for a doctor in Coronet to buff me, why not just sell them at a vendor for 10K a set?
I don't see this is a super-huge balance issue, but maybe there is something I haven't considered.
By making buffs applicable by any player, you free up the doctor to actually play like they are in Star Wars, and you free up the person that would be waiting in Coronet.
Just my $0.02, anyway.

I hate this idea. If doctor buffs are to be more powerful than chef buffs, then there must be a drawback. In this case, the drawback is that the doctor must be present to apply.
I completely disagree with the notion that you have to stand in line 20 minutes in order to "do anything". There is nothing that my combat character can solo with buffs that she can't solo without doc buffs. Granted, it takes longer, uses more stimpacks, and uses more chef food, but the doc buffs aren't a requirement. I agree that waiting in line for 20 minutes isn't much fun, which is why I choose not to do it. You can make that choice too.

I also think its a bad idea. Some docs make there money by buffing people, and not all have the money to purchase resources in order to make buff packs for people to buy. Also a set of buff packs would go for more like 120k, not 10k because there are usually around 30 charges on a buff pack.

i definately dissagree.
Buffs need to be more expensive.. and only be applied in the Med Center.
I recently discovered while leveling my alt that you dont need buffs to do alot of things if you take basic med, stim B's and wear armor. I've been hanging at the Tusken Fort taking on everyting up to and including Tusken Warlords with just armor and Stim Bs. Makes you alot more aware of what your doing than just spaming specials.. i've actually had time to discover which of my specials work in what areas for Unarmed. its alot more fun to not be imortal.

lol you'd have three or four doctors on each server making all the money undercutting everyone else. There are currently only a few doctors per server consitantly selling the top end buffs to other doctors. These Docs would stay in business but what would the rest do?This would make doctors less popular then squad leaders.Nothing against squad leaders but what are there 7 or 8on each server? Who would cure your diseases and poisons? I guess you'd want that self applicable too. Maybe self applicable rez packs too....
If you can't wait in line for a high end buff, go find a buff bot for a lower end buff.

I See what your going for. And yes it does suck to wait. But also sometimes when I'm buffing in CoronetI want to leave too and there's still a lineof 20 people. For me,I don't hunt,I don't craft (anymore Thank G-D),I Buff and go out in hunting parties strickly as a doctor (heals, buffs, cures, and revives). This is my only source of income!
YesI think buffs should be higher cost,on more then one occasionI have had TK/Combat masterstell me theymade 1 million credits off of my buff (that cost him 12k). it takes me 2 min and 20 seconds to do a whole set of buffs, at 12kI can make about 100K an hour or 300K for 3 hours (my buffs last 3h 11m) that means the recipient can make 700K more then me in the same time frame. For me to buy a complete set of buffs (good quality) it costs me about 120-140K (for decent quantity).
So yes it would be cool if you could buff yourself, but it kind of undermines the doctor profession, its a game of balance. For me this is my buisness much like crafters have vendors. If you buffed your self I'd be out of buisness. Now obviosly that last statement is biased because of my position, but it creates a need for master docs IMO.
Now if you noticed i did some complaining, and some corrections, but my comments arenot worth anything unlessI come up with suggestions:
1. Create a buff vendor specifically for Master docs only
2. Allow buffs to go faster
3. Range buffs? could be a bad idea though
4. All the buffs in one application instead of 6 (cost the same to make as it does all 6, but can be distributed faster, singles still available)
5. Just take it like a man

The DWB? The Geo Cave? Krayts? PvP? Ok, you don't have to be buffed to do ANYTHING, but, come on, you know what I meant.

That's a good point, lots of people don't craft thier own meds.

I wasn't trying to get into specifics, just put out an idea, but obviously you wouldn't sell a 30 charge pack for 10K.

I don't need a WS present to use that nice gun he made me, but I have to go to him to get it repaired... Anyway..
I'm not going to post here anymore, because nobody reads past the first few posts anyway. Flame on, flame on. Whatever you say, the buff situation will continue to suck. It's one of the lamest aspects of this game, and it's 1 of the 2 reasons I've been playing CoH more and more lately.

Well first I would like to ask what's the second reason you play here less and less?
Also, I'm not going to flame at all, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Yours is just one that I don't happen to agree with.
If you needed to buy another of those really good guns, but there were only 3 WS on your server and the gun had to be made custom for you each time, then you'd be waiting in line, wouldn't you? And, if you need a new set of armor and there were only 2 AS on your server and each suit had to be fitted to you persoanlly each time, then you'd be waiting in line, wouldn't you?
Why take an aspect away from Doctor that only serves to enhance the play quality IMO. I like buffing people, it adds a level of "service" that is part of a Doctor's job. Not to mention the chat time we'd miss.
Sure we could have a "6 set buff pack" that buffed all 6 stats at once. That might be an improvement. Or we could, as Master Doc's, have our wait time in between buffs drastically cut. That might be good also. But until one of these options or any other improvement comes out in a Publish, we deal with what we have.
That's my 1.5633333 credits worth.

Hey,I feelI replied fairly! Yes waiting does suck, andI came up with some ideas on how to improve it. The only other way is to start forcing docs to charge for healing and provide buffs to everyone at there own cost, but again people will take min skills in medic tree and heal them selves again docs and medics are useless. (Sorry but it is a relevant point)
