I got mobbed last night. I'd only stopped to ask a Jedi about some crystals when the line magically formed on me. As part of the deal with the Jedi I gave him a free set of buffs. I tried to hide the buffs by stepping to a corner. I think it was the droid that did me in. The momement that droid hit the ground a queue formed behind the jedi. I had an instant tell storm. It was stunning.

Usually when I stop in Coronet a few people will ask for buffs from me and I can clear the line with some halva. Not last night. A monster of a line grew. It was stunning to watch. I was standing by the Coronet fountain and it stretched all the way to and past the starport entrance. Then I realized. I was the only Doctor in Coronet! *dramatic danger music*

I buffed for over an hour. Until I ran out of packs. The line had only grown longer. When I ran out of packs people offered me 20k+ to keep buffing. Anything to keep buffing. People were standing in line for an hour at least.

It was an insane night.

A few observations:
1. People are willing to stand in line for an hour to get buffs. An hour! Insane.
2. People will pay 20k+ if you're the only doctor in Coronet.
3. Buffs are essential to the high end of the game and players are completely stuck without them.

Oh yeah, if you're the only doctor in Coronet that line is going to stretch REALLY far. I've had many of those nights in the past, and to be honest I'm sick of it hahaha. So only when I feel in the mood to sit there and do it will I "buff" people. I could pretty much go forever since I make my own buffs and they're in crates, but that's besides the point, that's not how I want to spend my time in-game

Ya, I had the similar situation. I was in coronet, trying to go off and survey for some resouces, when I decided why not buff for awhile. Next thing you know it, groups and groups of people . Hey 13k isn't bad. Especially, when your the only doc there.

Heh, I just got Master Doctor the other night and and soon as I dinged after getting my training I had over a half-dozen tells in the next minute. I wasn't exactly prepared for buffing just yet, so I made alot of unhappy people. I had no idea the demand was still so high with so many up and coming doctors.

"1. People are willing to stand in line for an hour to get buffs. An hour! Insane."

yeah, some stubborn people out there, myself included... that is why I bought another account to make a doctor with. I have fun with my doc, and always keep disease stims handy since I find it annoying that there is rarely anyone else around who can/will cure diseases....

"2. People will pay 20k+ if you're the only doctor in Coronet."

I have seen higher offers... it is a matter of cost/income..

"3. Buffs are essential to the high end of the game and players are completely stuck without them."

This I would like to change to:

People believe buffs are essential to the high end of the game.

They certainly -help-... but I know a ranger/pistoleer bothan that would argue this point with you all day long... he regularly logs out on endor or yavin or dath with no real fear of logging back in in range of high end agro. The trick is he knows how to use his specials and how to use combat tactics.

For example, he recently started doing the Hero of Tattooine quest where you have to talk to the NPC in the squill cave. He made it in and out without buffs or armor.... another friend of mine, admittedly a TKM, spent over an hour there unbuffed while the people around him constantly told him he couldn't last without buffs...

Buffs are nice, buffs do worlds of wonder at helping you move at a high level, but they are not ESSENTIAL to the game..

My observations from leveling doctor several times:

1) If you don't want to buff, don't. Ignore the naggers. Hop on a shuttle or starship and disappear. Theed is very good for this because you can leave with no wait.

2) Long line = High price. Maybe also offer line jumping for 50k or so, but be ready for some whiners.

3) People who won't take no for an answer go on the ignore list.

4) Unsolicited tips are gifts. Some people like to try that " you have to buff me, I tipped you". They will only try it once if you say "Thanks!" and then ignore them.

5) Don't be afraid to buff someone if you want to, or to wear your doctor tag, because you're afraid of the "Doctor TEF". Buff who you want to buff. Screw everyone else.

6) This is not to say be rude, but rather be firm and in charge of your own time.

Every time I log in I'm terrified they changed the game to Dance Dance Revolution without telling anyone after holding a "focus group"

If you are the only doc in Coronet, 13K is pitifully cheap. Why even bother wasting your time and resources? If someone is standing there in full comp armor, 13K is the proverbial fart in the wind to them. I'd rather buff one rich player for 50k than 5 for 10k. Even if you are roleplaying, doctors aren't monks sworn to a life of poverty and subservience.

And to the usual whine about "but not everybody can afford that!!!", well tough. Not everyone can afford comp armor, should I give them mine? Why don't I give them my droids too since they seem to be low on cash?

Tell players that whine about money to learn to use the mission terminals, that's what they are for, $ and XP.

Good stuff. People.

I have to agree with several observations. Buffs aren't ablsolutely essential to the game. We all know that since there was a time when there were no buffs. I spent many nights with a friend leveling carbineer and burning through stims like there was no tomorrow.

Also, I know all about how to say no to buffs. I've been a master for a long time.

Yes, I doubled my price and made a nice bit of change off the deal. Buffing isn't my main income, but once in a while I'll stop. I make my own packs, but I happened to be low when I started. Normally I've got crates on me.

The main thing that shocked me was the organization and swiftness of the mobbing. I hadn't gotten past the fourth state when the line was past 20 people. All standing patiently, sending tells. Passing guildmates stopped and laughed at me. It was too funny.

epilogue: Last night I was cruised to Dath to abuse the local population. I passed through Cnet and heard the spatial chatter, "Anyone buffing?" "Dude, there's no one buffing". I smiled and quietly hopped out off the planet.

I've been there man. I was in Cnet, about to leave to go grind Brawler and a guy offered me 20k for a buff. I said sure, and very quickly a line formed behind him. I took of my tag and started shouting that I was leaving after this guy I was one. Sometimes you just have to say no, I do it all the time.

The Doctor TEF LOL.

A few times I was running around trying to do something else and didnt' realize the Master Doctor Tab was up and in come the tells. I basically just say that I don't have any buffpacks. I don't think I will ever be the one to sit there for hours buffing person after person it's just not my idea of fun. If they do talk me into it and I do know that I'm the only one doing it they will pay dearly for my time.
