Thread: Why is everyone so paranoid about buffs being rebalanced?

Because the bottom line is no matter what they do to our buffing ability, people will still need them. Period.

They will still require the same resources to make, therefore prices won't go down unless by some miracle everybody stops price gouging whenever they can possibly get away with it.

So quit worrying, you might not be able to buff for 2500+, but the odds are you won't need to.

God, I hate this forum software...(Why can't I edit for six months?)

Because the people calling for buff changes are the "Gimme it, it's mine!" crowd who don't want to ever have to get buffs. They say it all the time "Buffs should be a bonus, not needed". "Not needed" focus on that, they're going after armorsmiths too. Once they get this set of whines (goals?), they'll be after the Weaponsmiths. "Crafted weapons should be a bonus, not neccesary to compete..."

Im a Master Doctor and I think the buffs are way to powerfull. If two buffed players in full comp. armour fights and none of them can do mind damage, it takes forever until one is incapped. Todays buffs are to good for PvP.

I'm a master doc, have been for months, and I also think the buffs are way too strong. Between buffs (I can do almost 2600 to all stats) and comp armor, my meleer can take pretty much anything in the game solo or with one friend. Acklay, krayt dragons, NS elders, you name it. Buffs are unbalancing this game too much at their current quality.

The biggest appeal this game has been offering me is the ability to solo and I believe that most casual players would agree. I don't always have hours to spend at one time to play the game and you can spend that just getting a group together and set out to do a hunt (e.g., Corvette).

I love the fact that I can solo (although, never tried Krayts solo, etc) and the main reason I became a Master Doctor is NOT to be an uber PVP'er, NOT to make the fictional ton of cash from buffing (have yet to do public buffing) - but to simply be self sufficient when playing the game ... when I get to play.

I don't disagree that you shouldn't be able to solo every single mob in the game, but lets not go overboard here and nerf us to obsolesence.

Another way to look at this is this. In real life there are very few critters I couldn't kill with ONE shot with the right weapon. There isn't a human alive I couldn't kill with ONE shot and I have no buffs in real life. (btw I was 20 years expert rifleman in the Army and I TAUGHT people how to do it) Yet when I go hunting in this game, if I'm not buffed, mere huurtons will close on me and kill me NO problem. My own rifle kills me or at least takes my stats down so much the huurton has only to bite me one time.

Instead of JUST nerfing buffs, maybe critters and ham costsshould be nerfed as wellso I have a decent chance of killing a simple dog like critter the huurton without a buff. Right now, the ONLY way to do decent hunting is with huge buffs. If those buffs are nerfed without also changing the costs of hunting/fighting then it becomes unrealistic in the OTHER way.

and take 2 players who are into PvP and have them fight unbuffed but in full comp and the fight will still take along time, take the same players give them the best buffs you can for all stats and no armour and see the fight end in about 10 seconds.

as the game currently is its the armour thats 'over powered' not the buffs

Sorry but as a BH/Ranger the buffs have to go(i mean rebalanced). If i have a glass of milk i am not suddenly able to kill 15 men. If I get a b-12 shot a the doctor I cant fight a 800 lb gorrilla with my bare hands. You have to agree that tripling a persons stats if not more is way out of line. They should rase everyones stats 50-75% and lower the buffs to 25-30% on top of that. While they are at it, they should also drop the armor down to 20-30% resist. Wow a challenging game were a skilled unbuffedcombatant would be able to take a unskillled buffedcombatant. Right now Buffs, food, and Armor is more like being in god mode.

Well the balance the devs need to be worried about are the ability to make PvP last more than a few seconds or more than whoever gets the first shot in.

Up HAM 75%, lower buffs to 30% of that and reduce resists, and you will not last more than a few seconds. How fun is that? Perhaps all this will be adresses in the combat rebalance since damage output would need to be reduced as well.

To me, a good fight is a fight that lasts more than 10 seconds. Involves some strategy such as withdrawing when your resources get low (And having the ability to do that-You can't do that in a 5-10 second fight)

The problem right now is that people need them. It's not a bonus to have them, it's a requirement. You simply can't play the game without them really. This is a pretty annoying aspect to non-doc combat chars. The need for buffs also hurts pvp gameplay considerably, since when you're overt you need to maintain a state of combat capability, and that means being buffed every minute you're logged on. Most people just don't see it as worth it because of that alone. It also means that most combat characters have to return to Coronet every ~3 hours if they want to keep fighting. I don't know how you feel about it, but I despise having to go to Coronet.

The combat rebalance will most likely change this. It will make buffs nice to have, but not necessary to play the game. This will make the value go down on them, since they will no longer be absolutely necessary. It means that some people won't bother getting them, and others will still want them, but not want them enough to keep paying what docs ask. Obviously there's a baseline that docs will charge (the cost to make/buy them), but it's uncertain if they'll even be worth that much after the rebalance. We really don't know. We honestly don't know much of anything about the rebalance, and until we do it's hard to have a discussion about issues like this.

Totally agree, The composite armor is what kills PvP
