Thread: A Modem User's Dilema, Any Feedback?

Hello, I have two accounts but, alas, no broadband is available in my location other than satellite which is way too expensive and slow for gaming. So, one character is a doctor and the other is not. I have been able to buff the other character: here is how I do it and if anyone can give me suggestions as to a better way, I would appreciate it!

1. I turn on the character to be buffed and put him physically close to my doctor character's location.

2. I unplug the modem and physically connect the phone wire to the second computer.

3. Dial modem, start SWG andI load the doctor character as quickly as possible, it has to be a full load.

4. I pull out the doctor and both toons will be on the screen, but only for a short while.

5. I buff like crazy, and if I am lucky, I'll finish all 6 before the first computer gives a SWG Connection Lost message. Any delays and my doctor character gets a "Target Cannot be Seen" error. Or, the first character toon will disappear altogether.

6. I quit SWG and reload the original character. The Timer box for the buffs is gone, but all the buffs are present and of the two times I have tried this, once the buffs disappeared as I switched between the two characters and once the buffs stayed for the full 3hours +.

7. If I try a Quit command on the original character, his toon will not be present when I switch to the Doctor, I have to do the disconnect.

Okay, that is the procedure. It would be great if I could get my non-doctor toon to hang on in the SWG world for a few minutes longer, it would make getting the buffs in a lot easier.

Any ideas?

Network the 2 machines and let the 2nd one have share the internet connection.

Am i missing something here, as this seems too obvious for something you surely would have done if you physically could.

Have you tried opening multiple instances of swg?

You could share the internet connection as an above poster mentioned. There is also a way to have 2 accounts on at the same time. It involves adding one line to one of the configuration files in your Galaxies folder. I don't recall what the file or line is since I've never done it, but it is worth looking into. This can be quite heavy on the system resources though, so you may want to avoid Coronet and the likes.

i have two accounts as well. i open two instances of SWG on the same machine. it makes things much much easier. to do this you have to create a file using notepad named user.cfg

the test of this file must be EXACTLY AS BELOW:

[Swgclient]

allowMultipleInstances=TRUE

I hope this helps you out a bit.

I have a similar problem, I have a doc and another character, cable connection, but only one puter. I tried the above but it didnt work. I created the 'user.cfg' and copied/pasted the command into and saved it the swg program file. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

you probably saved it as a txt file. You have to make the name user.cfg, put it in in the swg directory, and make sure you save as type "all files"

hey guys, stumbled apon this post as i was reading...by any chance kellsven do you use windows XP? if so, and if you can create another user account, it is possable to run 2 instances of the game, 1 account on one user account, and the other account on the other user account at the same time, then you just use the switch user command from the log out option on the start menu, this will save you the text editing of the files and such, one thing about either way of running 2 instances ( be it text editing or the windows XP method i have outlined above) is that your computer must have LOTS of ram, the game is already RAM intensive and running 2 instances just doubles the load.. just my 2 creds

Could you also share where you placed the .cfg file. I've dropped mine in about every directory I can think of and have not had success.
